  • Most applications of polymers involve blends and mixtures of components including solvents, surfactants, copolymers, fillers, organic or inorganic functional additives, and various processing aids. These components provide unique properties of polymeric materials even beyond those tailored into the basic chemical structures. In addition, skillful processing extends the properties for even greater applications. The perennial challenge of polymer science is to understand and exploit the structure-processing-property interplay relationship. We are developing and demonstrating combinatorial methods and high throughput analysis as tools to provide this fundamental understanding.

  • In the semiconductor fabrication, particle contamination is wide-spread and one of major causes to yield loss. Extensive testing has revealed that even careful handling of wafers during processing may cause photo-resist materials to flake off wafer edges. So, to remove the photo-resist at the outer 5mm of wafers, UV(Ultraviolet) rays are exposed.   • Dose-dependent pharmacokinetics of acetaminophen was studied in the rat. Acetaminophen was injected intravenously at doses of 10, 30, 50, 100 and 200mg/kg to the adult male rats. The well-known dose-dependent pharmacokinetic behavior was found even at 30mg/kg dose. It implies that metabolism of acetaminophen in the liver, probably sulfation, is saturated at very low concentration of acetaminophen. Dosage regimen establishment based on this characteristics would be necessary even at usual does level (300-600mg/day/body).

  • In this paper, an improved matching method using subtemplate of moving region and 3-step search algorithm is proposed. It reduces heavy computational load of the conventional method and also can continuously track the target even with occlusion. The proposed method is applied to an automatic target tracker using high speed 16bit microprocessor in order to track one moving target in real time. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance over the conventional method in spite of greately reducing the computational load, even in case with complex background and/or with occlusion.

  • Consumer electronics is rapidly digitalized invoking the necessity of digital signal transmission. Moreover, even in consumer electronics, occasionally signal speed is over 1Gbps and long distance transmission(over 5 meters) is required. For these requirements, even though optical transmission is ideal, cost problem has blocked up its entrance to consumer market. However, inexpensive and high speed optical devices such as VCSEL, PIN or MSN PD with large detecting area and low capacitance and Plastic Optical Fiber have been developed so that optical solution can be compete with electrical one in consumer electronics.

  • The linear support vector machine(SVM) is motivated by the maximal margin separating hyperplane and is a popular tool for binary classification tasks. Many studies exist on the consistency properties of SVM; however, it is unknown whether the linear SVM is consistent for estimating the optimal classification boundary even in the simple case of two Gaussian classes with a common covariance, where the optimal classification boundary is linear. In this paper we show that the linear SVM can be inconsistent in the univariate Gaussian classification problem with a common variance, even when the best tuning parameter is used.

Influence of the $CF_4$ Plasma Treatments on the Wettability of Polypropylene Fabrics

  • A plasma treatment using saturated $CF_4$ gas was employed to improve the resistance of polypropylene fabrics to water wetting. The fabrics were significantly fluorinated even within a short treatment time of 30 seconds. The result of contact angle measurement indicated that such highly hydrophobic surface was considerably durable even after 150 days of aging.

  • Recently human beings are experiencing fatal matters of environmental harm from enormous demolished concrete, even though waste concrete can get much more market value if recycled. The problem is that demolished concrete can not find the place where it can be used more economically and efficiently, but eventually can be spent worthlessly for landfill or road basement. Up to now, we can barely find the right place matching for structural performance in construction site with recycled concrete, even more, can not find another place to recycle this tremendous waste concrete. in addition it needs recycling information system between demanders and suppliers managed by government and other.

  • It has been known that if T and S are even Kakutani equivalent, then there exists U such that T and U are $\alpha$-equivalent and S and U are $\beta$-equivalent where $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are irrationally related. In this paper we give a complete discrete proof of this theorem without using R-actions.
