Multiplex movie cinemas are cultural spaces where an indefinite number of people from a variety of classes and ages can enjoy movies, food, and leisure all together in one place at the same time. Those facilities which a great number of people use together like multiplex movie theaters are relatively vulnerable to fire safety, compared with other facilities to protect from fire. Considering the special nature and vulnerability of multiplex movie theaters from a fire safety standpoint, this study aims to seek measures to acquire fire safety performance of the specific facilities by selecting exemplary models of local multiplex movie theaters, performing fire and evacuation simulations for them, and reviewing and analyzing their present problems in evacuation safety as well as the relevant regulations of many countries.
As the numbers of users of domestic passenger ships increased up to 14.5 millions at 2012, the numbers of ships accidents also increased as 2 times than ever. It will be very important to develop technologies related with safety design for onboard passengers and disclose the potential problems. This study performed consciousness survey on ordinary peoples' way finding who have not got any regular anti-disaster training, to develop evacuation models for evacuation feasibility studies. Followings are the results answered by 83 participants for 33 way finding questions. Respondents selected right ways more than 6~18% for 2 ways like T type, U type, Y type passages. But when there are some walkers and/or runners, respondents preferred to select the way where walkers or runners are. And more over the ratio of the ways that runners are on is comparatively higher than walkers. On 'ㅏ'type, 'ㅓ'type and 3 way type passages, even though the walkers and/or runners are affected to answerers, straight way were most preferred. And it is clear that peoples like bright passages. On the other hands, peoples responded as they like right, downward and near stairs more than left, upward and far stairs, respectively. and very few selected escalator and elevator for as evacuation stairs.

Cloase-range image information from drones and ground-based camera has been frequently used in the field of disaster mitigation with 3D modeling and mapping. In addition, the utilization of virtual reality(VR) is being increased by implementing realistic 3D models with the VR technology simulating disaster circumstances in large scale. In this paper, we created a VR training program by extracting realistic 3D models from close-range images from unmanned aircraft and digital camera on hand and observed several issues occurring during the implementation and the effectiveness in the case of a VR application in training for disaster mitigation. First of all, we built up a scenario of disaster and created 3D models after image processing with the close-range imagery. The 3D models were imported into Unity, a software for creation of augmented/virtual reality, as a background for android-based mobile phones and VR environment was created with C#-based script language. The generated virtual reality includes a scenario in which the trainer moves to a safe place along the evacuation route in the event of a disaster, and it was considered that the successful training can be obtained with virtual reality. In addition, the training through the virtual reality has advantages relative to actual evacuation training in terms of cost, space and time efficiencies.

Currently used 3D models, which are mostly focused on visualization of 3D objects and lack topological structure, have limitation in being used for 3D spatial analyses and applications. However, implementing a full topology for the indoor spatial objects is less practical due to the increase of complexity and computation time. This study suggests an alternative method to build a 3D indoor model with less complexity using a spatial DBMS. Storing spatial and nonspatial information of indoor spaces in DB tables enables faster queries, computation and analyses. Also it is possible to display them in 2D or 3D using the queried information. This study suggests a 2D-3D hybrid data model, which combines the 2D topology constructed from CAD floor plans and stored in a spatial DBMS and the 3D visualization functionality. This study showed the process to build the proposed model in a spatial DBMS and use spatial functions and queries to visualize in 2D and 3D. And, then, as an example application, it illustrated the process to build an indoor evacuation simulator.

As BIM(Building Information Modeling) technology advances in architecture around the world, projects and industries using BIM are increasing. Unlike previous developments that were limited to buildings, BIM is now spreading to other fields such as civil engineering and electricity. In architecture, BIM is used in the entire process from design to maintenance of a building, and IFC(Industry Foundation Classes), a neutral format with interoperability, is used as an open BIM format. Since firefighting requires intuitive 3D models for evacuation and fire simulations, BIM models are desirable. However, due to the BIM model, which was developed centered on building objects, there are no objects and specific properties for fire evacuation in the IFC scheme. Therefore, in this study, when adding a new object in the firefighting area to the IFC schema, the IFC interoperability is not broken and the building WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) is analyzed with a hierarchical system similar to the IFC format to define the scope for a new object and the firefighting part within of the building WBS to derive a firefighting HBS(Hierarchy Breakdown Structure) with the extension of the object-oriented IFC file. And according to HBS, we propose an IFC schema extension method. It is a methodology that allows BIM users to instantly adapt the IFC schema to their needs. Accordingly, the methodology derived from this study is expected to be expanded in various areas to minimize information loss from IFC. In the future, we will apply the IFC extension methodology to the actual development process using HBS to verify that it is actually applicable within the IFC schema.

It has been about 5 years since the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, which contaminated large area with radioactive materials. It is necessary to assess radiation dose to establish evacuation areas and to set decontamination goal for the large contaminated area. In this study, we assessed temporal trend of radiation dose to the public living in the large area contaminated with radioactive materials after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident. The dose assessment was performed based on Chernobyl model and RESRAD model for two evacuation lift areas, Kawauchi and Naraha. It was reported that deposition densities in the areas were $4.3{\sim}96kBq\;m^{-2}$ for $^{134}Cs$, $1.4{\sim}300kBq\;m^{-2}$ for $^{137}Cs$, respectively. Radiation dose to the residents depended on radioactive cesium concentrations in the soil, ranging $0.11{\sim}2.4mSv\;y^{-1}$ at Kawauchi area and $0.69{\sim}1.1mSv\;y^{-1}$ at Naraha area in July 2014. The difference was less than 5% in radiation doses estimated by two different models. Radiation dose decreased with calendar time and the decreasing slope varied depending on dose assessment models. Based on the Chernobyl dosimetry model, radiation doses decreased with calendar time to about 65% level of the radiation dose in 2014 after 1 year, 11% level after 10 years, and 5.6% level after 30 years. RESRAD dosimetry model more slowly decreased radiation dose with time to about 85% level after 1 year, 40% level after 10 years, and 15% level after 30 years. The decrease of radiation dose can be mainly attributed into radioactive decays and environmental transport of the radioactive cesium. Only environmental transports of radioactive cesium without consideration of radioactive decays decreased radiation dose additionally 43% after 1 year, 72% after 3 years, 80% after 10 years, and 83% after 30 years. Radiation doses estimated with cesium concentration in the soil based on Chernobyl dosimetry model were compared with directly measured radiation doses. The estimated doses well agreed with the measurement data. This study results can be applied to radiation dose assessments at the contaminated area for radiation safety assurance or emergency preparedness.

This paper describes the smoke filling process of a fire field model based on a self-deve-loped SMEP (Smoke Movement Estimating Program) code to the simulation of fire induced flows in the two types of atrium space containing a ceiling heat flux. The SMEP using PISO algorithm solves conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and species, together with those for the modified k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with buoyancy production term. Also it solves the radiation equation using the discrete ordinates method. Compressibility is assumed and the perfect gas law is used. Comparison of the calculated upper-layer average tempera-ture and smoke layer clear height with the zone models has shown reasonable agreement. The zone models used are the CFAST and the NBTC one-room. For atrium fires with ceiling glass the ceiling heat flux by solar heat causes a high smoke temperature near the ceiling. However, it has no effect on the smoke movement such as the smoke layer clear heights that are important in fire safety. In conclusion, the smoke layer clear heights that are important in evacuation activity except the early of a fire were not as sensitive as the smoke layer tem-perature to the nature of ceiling heat flux condition. Thus, a fire sensor in atrium with ceiling glass has to consider these phenomena.

Diamond core drills are applied to drill difficult-to-cut materials. This paper proposes basic understanding of ceramic drilling mechanics and characteristics of main factors affecting tool life, tool wear, cutting force, and chipping thickness. In contrast to conventional drilling, the core drilling process make deep grooves on the workpiece. One difficulty of it is the evacuation of chips from the drilled groove. As the drilling depth increases, an increased amount of chips tend to cluster together and clog the groove. Eventually severe wear develops and diamond grits are separated from the drill body. To relieve the clogging problem and to evacuate chips from the groove easily, the helical drilling process is applied for the core drilling process. To analyze drilling characteristics and derive optimal drilling conditions, tool life, tool wear, cutting force, and chipping thickness are quantified through the monitoring system and the Taguchi method. Mathematical models for the tool life and chipping thickness are derived from the response surface method. Optimal drilling database has been constructed through the experimental models.
Owing to our rapidly aging society, accessibility evaluation to enhance the ease and safety of access to indoor and outdoor environments for the elderly and disabled is increasing in importance. Accessibility must be assessed not only from the general standard aspect but also in terms of physical and cognitive friendliness for users of different ages, genders, and abilities. Meanwhile, human behavior simulation has been progressing in the areas of crowd behavior analysis and emergency evacuation planning. However, in human behavior simulation, environment models represent only "as-planned" situations. In addition, a pedestrian model cannot generate the detailed articulated movements of various people of different ages and genders in the simulation. Therefore, the final goal of this research was to develop a virtual accessibility evaluation by combining realistic human behavior simulation using a digital human model (DHM) with "as-is" environment models. To achieve this goal, we developed an algorithm for generating human-like DHM walking motions, adapting its strides, turning angles, and footprints to laser-scanned 3D as-is environments including slopes and stairs. The DHM motion was generated based only on a motion-capture (MoCap) data for flat walking. Our implementation constructed as-is 3D environment models from laser-scanned point clouds of real environments and enabled a DHM to walk autonomously in various environment models. The difference in joint angles between the DHM and MoCap data was evaluated. Demonstrations of our environment modeling and walking simulation in indoor and outdoor environments including corridors, slopes, and stairs are illustrated in this study.

In the third comprehensive library development plan, the formal and informal social safety space function of the library is used as a project. Therefore, this study investigated whether libraries were designated as evacuation facilities and related service status, and librarians' awareness, perception and attitude toward disaster and disaster response services. Based on this, it was intended to propose a direction to activate disaster and disaster response services. The research results are as follows. First, it is necessary to improve the perception of librarians who are the service providers. Second, discussions on spatial aspects, such as temporary or permanent, are needed. Third, development of disaster and disaster-related service models is required. Fourth, the administration's support and management are essential for the effectiveness of the library's function as a social safety space. Fifth, when developing guidelines for the role of libraries as social shelters and related services, specific details to address the concerns of individual libraries and librarians need to be specified.
