  • This paper analyzed the behavior of fixed-bed catalytic reactor (FBCR) which synthesizing maleic anhydride(MA) from the selective oxidation of n-butane. The behavior of FBCR describing convection-diffusion-reaction mechanism is examined by using two-dimensional pseudohomogeneous plug-flow transient model, with the kinetics of Langmuir-Hinshelwood type. Prediction model is composed by optimum parameter estimation from temperature profile, yield and conversion of single FBCR on operating condition variations of Sharma's pilot-plant experiment. A double FBCR with same yield and conversion for single FBCR generated a $8.96^{\circ}C$ lower hot spot temperature than a single FBCR. We could predict parametric sensitivity according to the variation of possible operating condition (temperature, concentration, volumetric flow of feed reactant and coolant flow rate) of single and double FBCR. Double FBCR showed the behavior of more operating range than single FBCR. Double FBCR with nonuniform activities could assure safety operation condition for the possible variation of operating condition. Also, double FBCR had slightly higher than the single FBCR in conversion and yield.

  • This study investigated about the seasonal variation of pollutant loads flowing into the Yeong-il bay from constructing Tank model which is the simulation model to evaluate the daily river discharge and pollutant load in the Hyeong-san river watershed. The estimated annual average river discharge of Hyeong-san river flowing into Yeong-il bay is about 878.34×10/sup 6/㎥/year which is about 73% of annual average of total precipitation in Hyeong-san river watershed. The annual average of pollutant load flowing into Yeong-il bay was estimated each 15.11 ton-COD/year, 23.24 ton-SS/year, 10.65 ton-TN/year, and 0.54 ton-Tp/year. For the seasonal variation of pollutant loads, it was tended as increasing of river discharge as increasing of inflow pollutant loads at June and July of summer and October of autumn. The main source of pollutant loads was found to be the Pohang city and Pohang industrial complex which are located near the mouth of Hyeong-san river. Therefore, for effective water quality management of Yeong-il bay, the counterplan to reduce pollutant loads from the main source of pollutant loads is required.

  • An objective method for the evaluation of eating quality of cooked noodle was established by using a specially designed shear extrusion cell of Rheometer. From the force-distance curve, the maximum force, initial force, extrusion work, and the slope were determined. In a test with Korean dried noodles made from 17 types of Australian wheat flour, the maximum and initial forces and extrusion work could represent the firm-soft and chewy character, which govern mostly the preference of cooked noodle. On the other hand, the slope could distinguish the textural changes of cooked noodle during the storage after cooking. The parameters showed significant correlation with the protein content, water absorption, development time and extensibility of flour, but no correlation was obtained with the maximum viscosity of viscogram. For the estimation of textural preference, the correlation coefficient obtained from a multiple regression analysis using the maximum viscosity of viscogram and the maximum force of shear extrusion test as the two independent variables was not significantly higher than the coefficient obtained from a simple regression with the maximum force only.

  • In Daegu, a road cleaning system was constructed in the central part of the city and has been operated from April, 2011. We evaluated the effect of the system on the concentration of $PM_{10}$ at a roadside monitoring site. The ambient $PM_{10}$ concentration data were logged every 1 min for a period of 20 weeks from May to October, 2011, by means of light scattering method, and then every 5 min data were used in the statistical analysis. The measured data were verified by comparing them with beta-ray data obtained at the same site. Correlation coefficient between the two groups was highly significant (r=0.79), though the absolute levels of light scattering data appeared to be approximately 2.8 times higher than the beta-ray data. Diurnal, daily, weekly, and monthly variations of $PM_{10}$ data did not show any evidence of decreasing effect owing to the clean road system. A comparison of roadside $PM_{10}$ data with non-roadside data also revealed very similar pattern, implying the variation of the $PM_{10}$ concentrations is mainly affected by the traffic conditions near the monitoring site. However, if the operating conditions of the clean road system can be improved, i.e. increasing the frequency and duration of water cleaning, the road cleaning effect may improve the air quality indirectly by means of removing the resuspended particles from the road.

  • The delivery load data obtained from Nakdong river basin are used for developing the model estimating the daily delivery load on the main side streams of Nakdong River. The developed model assesses the daily contamination loads of the main thirteen side streams that contribute to the main stream of Nakdong river. It is developed that the model using the simplified equation that can estimate the daily delivery loads on the side main streams of Nakdong river for a period of having no data of the water quality and flow. The developed model for estimating the daily delivery loads from the main side streams in Nakdong river basin on each item such as BOD, TN, and TP is expressed as Daily delivery load ($\frac{kg}{day}$) = Production load $(\frac{kg}{day}){\times}(1-{\alpha}){\times}(\frac{daily\;runoff}{average\;runoff\;per\;year}){\gamma}$. The estimated values obtained by using the model are almost fit to the calculated values (real data) that have been acquired from the thirteen main side streams in Nakdong river basin. The correlation coefficient values, R, that indicate the correlation between the estimated and the calculated show over 0.7 that mean the estimated values from the used model are adapted to the real data except TN values of Nam-river, Hwang-river, Gam-river, We-river. Especially, the correlation of TP values between the estimated and the calculated implies quite a creditable data to use.

  • Grouting is an operation often carried out to consolidate and seal the rock mass in dam sites and tunnels. One of the important parameters in this operation is grouting pressure. In this paper, analytical models used to estimate pressure are investigated. To validate these models, grouting data obtained from Seymareh and Aghbolagh dams were used. Calculations showed that P-3 model from Groundy and P-25 model obtained from the results of grouting in Iran yield the most accurate predictions of the pressure and measurement errors compared to the real values in P-25 model in this dams are 12 and 14.33 Percent and in p-3 model are 12.25 and 16.66 respectively. Also, SPSS software was applied to define the optimum relation for pressure estimation. The results showed a high correlation between the pressure with the depth of the section, the amount of water take, rock quality degree and grout volume, so that the square of the multiple correlation coefficient among the parameters in this dams were 0.932 and 0.864, respectively. This indicates that regression results can be used to predict the amount of pressure. Eventually, the relationship between the parameters was obtained with the correlation coefficient equal to 0.916 based on the data from both dams generally and shows that there is a desirable correlation between the parameters. The outputs of the program led to the multiple linear regression equation of P=0.403 Depth+0.013 RQD+0.011 LU-0.109 V+0.31 that can be used in estimating the pressure.

  • For areas with the diverse contamination sources, the change of 4-nitrophenol contamination and impact of potential contamination sources have been evaluated using monitoring data and a numerical model (HydroGeoSphere). The model considered several parameters including land cover, precipitation, and flow rate. And, the model has been performed to investigate the effect of decay rate of 4-nitrophenol. The results of the simulations showed that the influence on 4-nitrophenol in downstream was mainly greater than that in upstream, and the tributaries did not significantly affect the mainstream because of their low flow rates. In addition, the effect of contamination sources was simulated for each section, then the measured data were higher than the corresponding simulated data in most sections of the Geumho river. In particular, the impact of the potential contamination sources in the upstream area was much higher than that in the other area, thus more monitoring data for the upstream area is required.

  • For the assesment of pollutant loads, a monitoring has been conducted to identify hydrologic conditions and water quality of the Oenam watershed in Juam Lake, and the SWAT model integrated with GIS was applied to the watershed and evaluated for its applicability through calibration and verification using observed data. For the model application, digital maps were constructed for watershed boundary, land-use, soil series, digital elevation, and topographic input data of the Oenam watershed using Arcview. The observed runoff was 832.8 mm while the simulated runoff was 842.8 mm in 2003. The model results showed that the simulated runoff was in a good agreement with the observed data and indicated reasonable applicability of the model. In terms of nutrient load, the simulation results of T-N, T-P showed a similar trend to observed values. The observed T-N load was 10.8 kg/ha and the simulated T-N load was 7.6 kg/ha while the observed T-P load was 0.21 kg/ha and the simulated T-P load was 0.18 kg/ha. In general, SWAT model predicted observed runoff and loads of T-N and T-P after calibration with observed data in acceptable range. Overall, SWAT model was satisfactory in estimation of nutrient pollutant loads of the rural watershed.

  • On the subject of Yeoungsan River Yeoungbon c and Seumjin River Seumbon e site discussing as the measuring points of discharge and Quality by the Department of Environment, this study executes the tests of proprieties and examines the methods of flow measuring and assessment. The result of this study may summarize as belows. According to the hydrogeomorphological aspects and artificial effects, Yeoungbon c and Seumbon e site are not proper for the measuring points of the water levels. Also, the methods of river discharge measuring by the specific discharge method, first tried in this study, has an enough reliability which can be used to measure the site where is difficult to measure the flow directly or to select the representative site to measure on the up and downstream. In case of accumulating the specific discharge data throughout the flow observation by seasons and periods for a long time, these may be used to measure the flow as well.

  • Sewerage is the system that improves the quality of human life and prevents many disasters such as floods. However the investigators in Korea only have been concerned about the sewer system, so the sewage treatment plant stays in the basic level like mapping. For example, only one attribute can be recognized in the linear object. Because of this limitation, it makes difficult to manage the linear attribute regarding to the sewage pipe plan. And it is impossible to control a partial (point type, line type) attribute changes of the linear object. We will therefore present the applicable method for the attribute changes of the linear object like the sewage pipe plans. For this reason, this paper is designed on the basis of Dynamic Segmentation(DS). DS has the advantage of giving the attribute value to the exact place in the linear object. As a result of using DS, the variety environment changes around the sewage pipes are applied to the building sewerage data. This also makes it possible to get a precise estimation for the maximum dirty water amount.
