Structural and dynamic analyses of inducer and impeller for a oxidizer turbopump are peformed to investigate the safety level of strength and vibration at design point. Due to high rotational speed of turbopump, effects of centrifugal forces are carefully considered in the structural analysis. Hydrodynamic pressure is also considered as an external force applied to inducer and impeller blades. A three dimensional finite element method(FEM) is used for linear and nonlinear structural analyses with modified Newton-Raphson iteration method. After the nonlinear trim solution is obtained from the structural analysis, dynamic characteristics are obtained as a function of rotational speed from the linearized eigenvalue analysis at an equilibrium position. According to the results of numerical analysis, the safety margins of strength and vibration resonances m sufficient enough to be operated safely within the required life cycle.
Real-world objects often have two or more significant attributes. For example, face images have attributes of persons, expressions, and so on. Even if we are interested in only one of those attributes, additional informations on auxiliary attributes can help recognition of the main one. In the present paper, the authors propose a method for pattern recognition with double attributes. A pair of classifiers are combined: each classifier makes a guess of its corresponding attribute, and it tells the guess to the other as a hint. Equilibrium point of this iteration can be calculated directly without iterative procedures.
We consider a delayed predator prey model. The local stability and Hopf bifurcation results are stated taking the time delay as a control parameter. We apply multiple scale analysis to analyze the effects of additive white noises near the Hopf bifurcation point at the positive interior equilibrium state. The governing equations for the amplitude of oscillations on a slow time scale are derived. We identify the process of amplitude of oscillations and derive its transient properties. We show that oscillations, which would decay in the deterministic system whenever time delay lies below its critical value, persists for long time under the validity of multiple scale analysis.

Experiments have been performed to test the analytical tools developed concurrently for the motion-related unsteady pressure in annular passages. The outer cylindrical body was oscillated by a shaker in either rocking motion about a hinge-point or lateral translation motion. In the equilibrium configuration the two bodies are either concentric or eccentric, in the plane of oscillation or normal to it. The unsteady pressure generated by the oscillatory motion with low amplitudes (displacement/radius) was measured on wall of the fixed inner cylinder at various axial and azimuthal locations. The unsteady pressure were compared with theoretical predictions, and agreement was found to be within 10%. Experiments have been shown that the effect of flow velocity on the unsteady pressure is minimal and the pressure increases more or less with oscillatory motion, for low flow velocities (Re = 2 900).

On the absorber of absorption chiller/heater, LiBr solution at high concentration is sprinkled on a bundle of horizontal tube cooled by cooling water. In this case, the conditions of LiBr solution and cooling water have an influence on heat/mass transfer coefficient in this system. Therefor it is important to find optimal operation conditions of absorption chiller/heater to save energy. Heat and mass transfer coefficient increased with the increase of solution flow rate, and also heat and mass transfer rate increased but overall heat and mass transfer coefficient decreased by increasing the solution concentration within the experimental range. The superheating of the solution resulted in superior heat transfer character to a state of equilibrium from the point of heat flux and overall heat transfer coefficient.
New insights into our previously proposed hybrid-type method for vibration control are highlighted in terms of energy analysis, such as the assessment of energy efficiency and system stability. The hybrid method improves the bang-bang active method by combining it with an energy-recycling approach. Its simple configuration and low energy-consumption property are quite suitable especially for isolated structures whose energy sources are strictly limited. The harmful influence of the external voltage is assessed, as well as its beneficial performance. We show a new chattering prevention approach that both harvests electrical energy from piezoelectric actuators and eliminates the displacement-offset of the equilibrium point of structures. The amount of energy consumption of the hybrid system is assessed qualitatively and is compared with other control systems. Experiments and numerical simulations conducted on a 10-bay truss can provide a thorough energy-efficiency evaluation of the hybrid suppression system having our energy-harvesting system.
The paper treated the oscillation control of cargo rope and the position control of cart for a tower crane system by adopting the optimal regulator method. Since the tower crane has nonlinearity and it is very unstable when the cargo is mobiling, an insensitive control system with respect to oscillation of cargo rope and disturbance such as wind is required. In this paper, model equation of the tower crane is induced by using Lagrange equation and it is linearized at equilibrium point. The real time control of tower crane syste is implemented by 16bits microcomputer with A/D and D/A convetters to illustrate the application of the adopted optimal desgn method.
The paper presents a method of constructing simple fuzzy control rules for the determination of stabilizing signals of automatic voltage regulator and governor, which are controllers of electric power systems. Fuzzy control rules are simplified by considering a coordinate transformation with the rotation angle .theta. on the phase plane, and by expanding the range of membership functions. Also, two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{2}$ are selected for the linearizable region and the nonlinear one of the system, respectively. Here, .theta. $_{1}$ is chosen by the pole assignment method, and .theta. $_{2}$ by a performance index. Fuzzy inference is applied to the connection of two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{1}$ by regarding the distance from the desired equilibrium point as a variable of condition parts. The control effect is demonstrated by an application of the proposed method to one-machine infinite-bus power system.

This paper presents a method to apply energy margin for assesment of total transfer capability (TTC). In order to calculate energy margin, two values of the transient energy function have to be computed. The first value is transient energy that is the sum of kinetic and potential energy at the end of fault. The second is critical energy that is potential energy at controlling UEP(Unstable Equilibrium Point). It is seen that TTC level is determined by not only bus voltage magnitudes and line thermal limits but also transient stability. TTC assessment is compared by the repeated power flow(RPF) method and optimization method.
In this paper, a class of bi-directional associative memory (BAM) fuzzy cellular neural networks with distributed delays and impulses is formulated and investigated. By employing an integro-differential inequality with impulsive initial conditions and the topological degree theory, some sufficient conditions ensuring the existence and global exponential stability of equilibrium point for impulsive BAM fuzzy cellular neural networks with distributed delays are obtained. In particular, the estimate of the exponential convergence rate is also provided, which depends on the delay kernel functions and system parameters. It is believed that these results are significant and useful for the design and applications of BAM fuzzy cellular neural networks. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the results obtained here.
