  • The adsorption kinetic study of ruthenium complex, N3, onto nanoporous titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photoanodes has been carried out by measuring dye uptake in-situ. Three simplified kinetic models including a pseudo first-order equation, pseudo second-order equation and intraparticle diffusion equation were chosen to follow the adsorption process. Kinetic parameters, rate constant, equilibrium adsorption capacities and related coefficient coefficients for each kinetic model were calculated and discussed. It was shown that the adsorption kinetics of N3 dye molecules onto porous $TiO_2$ obeys pseudo second-order kinetics with chemisorption being the rate determining step. Additionally the heterogeneous surface and the pore size distribution of porous $TiO_2$ adsorbents were also discussed.

  • In the present study, an improved version of 4-equation low-Reynolds-number 4-equation model is proposed. The equations of the temperature variance ($k_{\theta}$) and its dissipation rate(${\varepsilon}_{\theta}$) are solved, in concert with the equations of the turbulent kinetic energy(k) and its dissipation rate(${\varepsilon}$). In the present model, the near-wall effect and the non-equilibrium effect are fully taken into consideration. The validation of the model is then applied to the turbulent flow behind a backward-facing step and the flow over a blunt body. The predicted results of the present model are compared and evaluated with the relevant experiments.

  • Buckling and post-buckling Analysis of Ludwick type and modified Ludwick type elastic materials was carried out. Because the constitutive equation, or stress-strain relationship is different from that of linear elastic one, a new governing equation was derived and solved by $4^{th}$ order Runge-Kutta method. Considered as a special case of combined loading, the buckling under both point and distributed load was selected and researched. The final solution takes distinguished behavior whether the constitutive relation is chosen to be modified or non-modified Ludwick type as well as linear or non-linear. We also derived strain energy function for non-linear elastic constitutive relationship. By doing so, we calculated the criterion function which estimates the stability of the equilibrium solutions and determines critical buckling load for non-linear cases. We applied this theory to the constitutive relationship of fabric, which also is the non-linear equation between the applied moment and curvature. This results has both technical and mathematical significance.

  • Sensorless speed estimation in induction motor systems is one of the most control engineers. Based on the estimated speed the vector control has been applied to the high precision torque control however most speed estimation methods use adaptive scheme so that it takes long time to estimate the speed. Thus the adaptive estimation scheme is not effective to the induction motor which requires short sampling time. In this paper a new linearized equation of induction motor system is proposed and a sensorless speed estimation algorithm based on observation techniques is developed. First the nonlinear induction motor equation is linearized at an equilibrium point. Second a proportional integral(PI) observer is applied to estimate the speed state in the induction motor system. Finally simulation results will assure the effectiveness of the new linearized equation and the sensorless estimation algorithm by using PI observer in the nonlinear induction motor system.

  • The 3-dimensional finite element program is developed to analyze the non-isothermal forming processes of aluminum-alloy sheet metals. Bishop's method is introduced to solve the heat balance and force equilibrium equations. Also, Barlat's non-quadratic anisotropic yield function depicts the planar anisotropy of the aluminum-alloy sheet. To find an appropriate constitutive equation, four different forms are reviewed. For the verification of the reliability of the developed program, the computational try-outs of the non-isothermal cylindrical cupping processes of AL5052-H32 and Al1050-H16 are carried out. As results, the constitutive equation relating to strain and strain-rate, in which the constants are represented by the 5th-degree polynomials of temperature, is in good agreement with measurement. The computational try-outs can predict optimal forming conditions in non-isothermal forming processes.

  • This paper presents an analytical approach for the vibration characteristics of a piezoelectric disc for torsional vibration transducers. The characteristic equation of the piezoelectric annular disc has been derived from Gibbs' free energy equations and mechanical and electrical equilibrium. With an anisotropic material properties of the disc, the characteristic equation has yielded resonance frequencies. Numerically-calculated results have been compared with the results obtained by the finite element analysis and experiments and have confirmed the validity of the theoretical analysis.

  • This paper presents a study of the uniform metal droplet generation using laser. The theoretical model, based on the variational principle instead of solving the Wavier-Stokes equation with moving boundaries, is developed. Our model is considered the Young-Laplace equation and force equilibrium conditions. Surface tension coefficient is determined under the statical condition with induced differential equation by using experimental result. In case of dynamic vibration, metal droplet shape and critical detaching volume are predicted by recalculating of proposed model. The simulation result revealed that the developed model could reasonably describe the molten metal droplet behavior on vibration with metal wire.

  • Studies are being done to replace conventional refrigerants with alternatives that have low or no ozone depletion and greenhouse warming Potentials, yet possess appropriate pro perties for a refrigeration cycle. To achieve this goal, a consistent set of thermodynamic properties of the working fluid is required. A common problem with the possible alternative refrigerants is that sufficient experimental data do not exist, thus making it difficult to develp complete equations of state that can predict properties in all regions including the vapor-liquid equilibrium. One solution is the use of the generalized equation of state correlations that can predict thermodynamic properties with a minimum number of characteristic parameters. Characteristic parameters required for the generalized equation of state are, in general, critical temperature, critical pressure, critical volume and normal boiling temperature. In this study, estimation of these characteristic parameters of refrigerants by group contribution method is developed.

  • This paper describes the electron transport characteristics in $SiH_4$ gas calculated for the range of E/n:0.5~300(Td) and Pressure:0.5, 1, 2.5(Torr) by the Monte carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation method using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the reported results. The motion has been calculated to give swarm parameters for the electron drift velocity, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients, the electron ionization coefficients, characteristics energy and the electron energy distribution function. The electron energy distributions function has been analysed in $SiH_4$ at E/N: 30, 50(Td)for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy and respective set of electron collision cross sections. The results of Monte carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation have been compared with experimental data by ohmori ad Pollock.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of beam-columns on elastic foundation using Differential Quadrature Method. Based on the dynamic equilibrium equation of a beam element acting the stress resultants and the inertia force, the governing differential equation is derived for the in-plane free vibration of such beam-columns. For calculating the natural frequencies, this equation is solved by the Differential Quadrature Method. It is expected that the results obtained herein can be used in application of Differential Quadrature Method to the field of civil engineering and practically in the structural engineering, the foundation engineering and the vibration control fields.
