  • A sectional analysis of trunk-lid carried out by using the equilibrium approach based on the force balance together with geometric relations and plasticity theory. In computing a force balance equation, it is required to define a geometric curve approximating the shape of sheet metal at any step of deformation from the interaction between the die and the deformed sheet. The trunk-lid panel material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and to obey Hill's new yield criterion. Deformation of each section of trunk-lid panel is simulated and composed to get the three-dimensional shape by using CAD technique. It was shown that the three-dimensional shape composition of the two-dimensional analysis.

  • Nash equilibrium is usually used to investigate a generator's strategic bidding in electricity markets. Some literatures show that the transmission constraints may induce no pure strategy equilibrium and make it hard to find the equilibrium. Using an analytical approach to find a mixed strategy Nash equilibrium in electricity market with transmission constraints, we analyze the influence of transmission capacity on the mixed strategy Nash equilibrium. Finally, a simple numerical example is provided to support the claims of this paper.

  • An important aspect of the study of power system markets involves the assessment of strategic behavior of participants for maximizing their profits. In models for imperfect competition of a deregulated system, the key tack is to find the Nash equilibrium. When the constraints are not considered in the power market, the equilibrium has the form of a pure strategy. However, the constraints are considered, the equilibrium has the form of a mired strategy. In this paper the bimatrix game approach leer finding a mixed equilibrium is analyzed. The Nash equilibrium of a mixed strategy will be used adequately for the analysis of market power.

  • Many studies of experimental economics have produced outcomes which contradict the predictions of Nash equilibrium, which relies heavily upon the premise of selfishness of an individual. In the games involving contexts of social conflicts represented by the prisoners' dilemma game, the experiments yields outcomes quite different from what are predicted by the conventional wisdom. In order to fill this gap between the conventional Nash Equilibrium and experimental outcomes, non-selfish (or other-regarding) motives of human behavior are introduced and then a new equilibrium concept, RAE-equilibrium is developed. It is also proved that an RAE-equilibrium exists under quite general conditions. Then it is applied to the prisoners' dilemma game that some of the experimental outcomes can be explained.

  • In an irregular prism tensegrity, the number of force equilibrium equations is less than the number of unknown parameters of nodal coordinates and member force ratios. As a result, the form-finding process normally becomes nonlinear with additional conditions or needs to be carried out with the use of iterative procedures. For cases of irregular prism tensegrity which involves large number of members, it was found that previously proposed methods of form-finding are not practical. Moreover, there is a need for a form-finding approach which is able to cater to different requirements on final configuration. In this paper, the length relation condition is introduced to be used in combination with the force equilibrium equation. With the combined use of length relation and equilibrium conditions, a linear form-finding approach for irregular prism tensegrity was successfully formulated and developed. An easy-to-use interactive form-finding tool has been developed which can be used for form-finding of irregular prism tensegrities with large number of elements as well as under diverse specific requirements on their configurations.

  • This paper deals with the method of self-equilibrium stress mode analysis of cable dome structures. From the point of view of analysis, cable dome structure is a kind of unstable truss structure which is stabilized by means of introduction of prestressing. The prestress must be introduced according to a specific proportion among different structural member and it is determined by an analysis called self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. The mathematical equation involved in the self-equilibrium stress mode analysis is a system of linear equations which can be solved numerically by adopting the concept of Moore-Penrose generalized inverse. The calculation of the generalized inverse is carried out by rank factorization method. This method involves a parameter called epsilon which plays a critical role in self-equilibrium stress mode analysis. It is thus of interest to investigate the range of epsilon which produces consistent solution during the analysis of self-equilibrium stress mode.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the power control problem in wireless communications with game theoretic approach. The major contribution of the present paper is that we formulated the problem as a game with a finite number of strategies while most of the previous game theoretic power control literatures modeled with continuous game in which there are infinite number of strategies. It should be noted that the closed-loop power control would be performed in a discrete manner, power up or down from the present level of power with fixed power control step size. We model the current closed-loop power control scheme with the famous Prisoner's dilemma model and show that the power-up strategy is Nash equilibrium. That is, every mobile tries to increase their power and approach to their maximal power. Thus, the outcome of current power control (Nash equilibrium) is inefficient. In order to attain efficient power control for the environment where ICI(Inter-Cell Interference is severe, we developed a new payoff function in which the penalty mechanism is introduced and derived conditions under which power-down becomes Nash equilibrium strategy for all players. Furthermore we examined the trajectory of equilibrium power when the power control game will be played repeatedly.

  • This study was conducted to approach the Korean new food words for the years 1994-2005 from the stance of food ethics. The new food words were categorized into food industry, foodstuffs, cooking, various foods, processed foods, distribution, and consumer health. The principles of food ethics applied to new food words include a respect for life, justice, environmental preservation, priority of safety, and dynamic equilibrium. Seventy percent of new food words were ethically neutral, while 30% had significant ethical meaning. There were more words with a negative ethical meaning than with a positive one. All of the principles, except respect for life, could be successfully applied to new food words. Dynamic equilibrium was the most appropriate principle for the new food words, followed by a priority for safety, justice, and environmental preservation. The results of this study implied that moderation and balance is required in our modern dietary life.

  • This paper presents the solution of large static deflection due to uniformly distributed self weight and the critical or maximum applied uniform loading that a simply supported beam with variable-arc-length can resist. Two analytical approaches are presented and validated experimentally. The first approach is a finite-element discretization of the span length based on the variational formulation, which gives the solution of large static sag deflections for the stable equilibrium case. The second approach is the shooting method based on an elastica theory formulation. This method gives the results of the stable and unstable equilibrium configurations, and the critical uniform loading. Experimental studies were conducted to complement the analytical results for the stable equilibrium case. The measured large static configurations are found to be in good agreement with the two analytical approaches, and the critical uniform self weight obtained experimentally also shows good correlation with the shooting method.

  • We consider some numerical solution methods for equilibrium equations Af + E$^{T}$ λ = r, Ef = s. Algebraic problems of this form evolve from many applications such as structural optimization, fluid flow, and circuits. An important approach, called the force method, to the solution to such problems involves dimension reduction nullspace computation for E. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the substructuring method for the solution step of the force method in the context of the incompressible fluid flow. We also suggests some iterative methods based upon substructuring scheme..
