  • In this study, 20 types of samples were prepared by mixing different kinds of inorganic materials to develop insulation materials for epoxy - based GIS substation equipment used under high voltage environmentally friendly insulation gas. One of the electrical characteristics, AC insulation breakdown experiment was performed. As mixing ratio of mixed heterogeneous inorganic materials, the dielectric breakdown strength was increased with increasing filler ratio of micro silica, micro silica : micro Alumina, 1:9, 3:7, 5:5, 7:3, 9:1, and decreased as the filling amount of micro alumina increased. The AC insulation breakdown characteristics were the best when the composition ratio was 9:1. The higher the content of silica, the better the interfacial properties, and the larger the alumina content ratio, the worse the interfacial properties.

  • This paper examines the effective thermal conductivity of 3-D braided glass/epoxy composites. 3-D braided composites have a number of advantage over conventional laminate composites, including through-thickness reinforcement, and high damage tolerance and processability. The thermal properties of composites depend primarily on the microstructure of the braided preform and properties of constituent materials. A thermal resistance network model based on structure of the braided preform is proposed by using thermal-electrical analogy. In order to affirm the applicability theses solutions, thermal conductivities of 3-D braided glass/epoxy composites are measured

  • A liquid crystalline thermosetting-epoxy-based composite was fabricated using diglycidyl ether of 4,4'-biphenol, tin(IV) oxide as a filler, and sulfanilamide as a curing agent. To investigate the thermal behavior, Thermogravimetric Analysis and Laser Flash Apparatus were performed using 3.0-7.0 wt% Tin(IV) oxide. The result showed that the activation energy and thermal conductivity were proportional to the amount of added filler.

  • Protective coatings play an important role in the protection of metallic structures against corrosive environment. The main function of anticorrosive coating is to prevent the materials from corrosive agents, such as water, oxygen and ions. In the study, the corrosion protection properties of urethane and epoxy coating systems were evaluated using EIS methods exposed to the corrosion acceleration test such as Norsok M501, Prohesion and hygrothermal cyclic test. AFM analysis of the coating systems was carried out to monitor the change of roughness of coatings. Urethane coating system was more stable than the epoxy coating under given cyclic conditions. Water uptake into the urethane coatings was less than that into the epoxy coating. The urethane coating system showed better corrosion protection than epoxy coating system based on the changes of the impedance modulus at low frequency region with exposure time. Consequently, the corrosion protection properties of the epoxy and urethane coatings was well correspond with their surface roughness changes and water uptakes.

  • Composite materials are substances that are configured to have excellent physical properties by combining the properties of a single substance, and are in the limelight as materials that exceed the performance of metals and polymers. However, it has the disadvantages of long cycle time and high unit price, and much research is being performed to overcome these disadvantages. In this study, we developed an epoxy resin curing agent that can shorten the time required for mass production of composite materials, and tried to expand the applicability of objections by imparting flame retardancy. The epoxy resin used as a basic substance utilized two types of bisphenol F and resorcinol structure, which was further modified using 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenantrene-10-oxide (DOPO) to impart flame retardancy. Triethylphosphate (TEP) and bis [(5-ethyl-2-methyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-5-yl)methyl] methyl phosphonate P,P'-dioxide (FR-001) were used as additives, seven kinds of compositions were blended, thermal characteristics (gelation time, glass transition temperature) and flame retardant performance were evaluated. We successfully developed an epoxy matrix that can be applied to high pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) process.

  • In recents years, the statistical properties has become an important quantity for reliability based design of a component. The effects of the materials and test conditions for parameter estimation in residual strength degradation model are studied in carbon/epoxy laminate. It is shown that the correlation between the experimental results and the theoretical prediction on the fatigue life distribution using the life distribution convergence method is very reasonable.

  • A new designed composite archery bow limbs are developed in this study. The characteristic F-X curve in current recurve archery bow is first studied for a reference. Based on this, a composite archery bow is designed to obtain a higher strain Energy and good vibration performance. Carbon/Epoxy prototype archery bow limbs are made from autoclaving and test on INSTRON 5567 test machine. The experimental results show that the new designed archery bow is powerful and stable.

  • Polymer nanocomposite has been attracting more attention as a new insulation material because homogeneous dispersion of nano-sized inorganic fillers can improve various properties significantly. In this paper, various kinds of epoxy-based nanocomposites were made, and the AC breakdown strengths of Nano filler and micro-$SiO_2$ filler mixtures of epoxy-based composites were analyzed using sphere-to-sphere electrodes. Moreover, nano- and microfiller combinations were investigated as an approach to practical application of nanocomposite insulation materials. Its composition ratio was 100 (resin):82 (hardener):1.5 (accelerator). AC breakdown tests were performed at room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$), $80^{\circ}C$, and $100^{\circ}C$ in the vicinity of $T_g$ ($90^{\circ}C$). Thermal conductivity was measured using TC-30.

  • We conducted research on a two-component epoxy adhesive material based on acid graft polyolefin using maleic anhydride to address the lack of formability due to epoxy adhesives' hard segments. To understand the graft efficiency according to reaction conditions, we conducted studies based on polyolefin molecular weight, initiator half-life, and initiator concentration for each process. The maleic anhydride grafted polyolefin produced was used as an adhesive material for aluminum and CPP film lamination after mixing with epoxy hardener. The graft efficiency in the solution process was approximately 30% superior to that in the melt process, and an increase in graft ratio confirmed an increase in peel strength.

  • To increase pot life in the formulation mixed with bisphenol F epoxy resin, anhydride-based curing agent, and imidazole-based curing accelerator powders as a paste material for high-speed RFID chip bonding, size variation of the imidazole-based powders and a coating method of the powders were adopted in this study. In experiment with regard to the size variation, the pot life was not outstandingly increased. Through the idea using the coating method, however, the pot life was increased up to 4.25 times in comparison with the addition of initial imidazole-based powders. Consequently, successive bonding of RFID chip could be performed with very short time of 5sec using the suggested formulation having improved pot life.
