Efficient Ring Opening Reaction of Epoxides with Oxygen Nucleophiles Catalyzed by Quaternary Onium Salt

  • Ring opening reactions of epoxides with oxygen nucleophiles catalyzed by a variety of quaternary onium salt, such as ammonium or phosphonium salt were explored. The results showed that tetrabutylphosphonium bromide (TBPB) among salts serves as the most efficient catalyst for this process and that expoxide ring opening reactions with a variety of oxygen nucleophiles including carboxyic acid and phenol, promoted using this salt, lead to generate readily purifiable products in excellent yields.

  • Linoleic acid and its metabolites have various medicinal effects with carboxylic acid functional group. General carboxylic acid compounds are discovered as glucuronide metabolites by UGT glucuronosyl transferase at liver. Consequently, glucuronides of linoleic acid metabolites are expected as potent conjugated metabolite. A previous study reported two epoxide metabolites and two dihydroxy metabolites of linoleic acid. There are prepared their glucuronic acid conjugated compounds as potent linoleic acid metabolites.

Contents of Carotenoids and Chlorophylls in Dolsan Leaf Mustard(Brassica juncea) (돌산갓의 Carotenoids 및 Chlorophyll 함량)

  • To furnish basic data for the utilization of leaf mustard as a raw material of salted and fermented vegetable food, the contents of carotenoids and chlorophylls of Dolsan Leaf Mustard(DLM) were investigated. Total carotenoid content of DLM was 4.75 mg%, and the compositions were ${\beta}-carotene(80.91%)$, lutein(13.07%), lutein epoxide(3.93%). The contents of chlorophyll a and b were 4.1 and 1.5 mg%, and leaf was 7.4- and 8.1-fold, respectively, higher than leaf stalk. The ratios of chlorophyll a/b in leaf (2.7:1) and leaf stalk(3.0:1) were similar to those of other vegetables.

  • The volatile aroma components were isolated from Korean flue-cured tobacco (N.C. 2326) by using a vacuum steam distillation method. Individual aroma components were identified by GCIMS and comparison of gas chromatowaphic retention time with those of the authentic samples. Sensory analysis showed that a vacuum steam-distilled product of Flue-cured tobacco had a typical haylike, floral and fruity aroma. Among 62 compounds identified, major compounds included neophytadiene, benzyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, phenyl ethyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, ethyl formate, acetic acid, solanone, 2-acetyl pyrrole, $\beta$-ionone epoxide, 2, 4-heptadienal (2 isomers), megastigmatrienone (4 isomers), furfural and total amounts of 13 compounds were about 80%.

Degradation of Cholesterol by Bacillus subtilis SFF34 in Flatfish during Fermentation

  • Bacillus subtilis SFF34 degrading cholesterol was applied to reduce residual cholesterol content in fermented flatfish. When the bacterial cells were inoculated as a start culture, a maximal level (1.7 U/g) of cholesterol oxidase was obtained after 10 days, which was two times higher than that (0.8 U/g) without inoculation. Residual cholesterol contents with and without inoculation of the cells were 0.5 mg/g and 0.8 mg/g after 12 days of fermentation, respectively. Cholesterol derivatives including cholesterol- 5${\alpha},\;6{\alpha}$-epoxide, 4-cholesten-3-one and 7${\beta}$-hydroxycholesterol were detected in raw flatfish as well as fermented flatfish. Campesterol and 25-hydroxycholesterol were detected only after fermentation. However, no significant differences in their contents were observed regardless of inoculation.

  • 소, 돼지, 닭 및 염소의 근육, 지방조직 및 내장부위에서 11가지 유기염소계 잔류농약을 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 육류시료 모두에서 검출된 유기염소계의 잔류량은 $\alpha$-BHC, $eta$-BHC, pp'-DDE, Heptachlor epoxide, ${\gamma}$-BHC순으로 검출되었고, Heptachlor, pp'-DDE 및 pp'-DDD는 극미량 내지는 흔적 정도 검출되었고 Drins류는 검출되지 않았다. 2. Total BHC 잔류량의 범위는 소의 경우 0.389ppb~1.111ppb로 평균 0.713ppb였고, 돼지는 0.139ppb~0.150ppb로 평균 0.631ppb였으며 닭은 0.312ppb~0.80ppb로서 평균 0.517ppb였다. 그리고 염소의 경우에는 0.238ppb~1.134ppb로써 평균 0.586ppb의 수준이었다. 3. 육류별 잔류량은 소, 돼지, 염소, 닭의 순서이고 부위별 잔류량은 지방조직이 가장 많았고 그 다음이 근육, 그외 부위별 잔류량의 차이는 거의 없었다.

  • 지구 온난화를 일으키는 온실 가스 중의 하나인 이산화탄소($CO_2$)를 Epoxide와 Tetrabutylammonium bromide를 촉매로 하여 합성하여, 초임계 $CO_2$ 상태($Tc=31.06^{\circ}C$, Pc=7.38MPa)에서 반응하여 그에 따른 수율을 측정한 결과 초임계하에서는 현저한 수율의 증가를 확인하였다.

  • Regiospecific total syntheses of (±)-11-deoxy-4-methoxy-10-oxo-βrhodomycinone (21a) and (±)-11-deoxy-1-methoxy-10-oxo-β-rbodomycinone (21b) are described. 2-(2-Bromoethyl)-1,3-dioxane (6) was transformed to naphthalenone 12, which was condensed with (phenylsulfonyl)-isobenzofuranone 13 to afford 7,8-dihydro-9-ethyl-6-hydroxy-4-methoxynaphthacen-5,12-dione (15). Epoxide 16 prepared from olefinic compound 15, reacted with HF/Pyr (7:3) to give 17. Dihydroxylation of 17 with t-BuOK/P(OMe)3/O2, selective cis-diol protection of mixed compounds 18 with phenylboronic acid in toluene, separation of cis-boronate 19 and trans-diol 20 by column chromatography on silica gel, and cleavage of the boronate group of 19 with 2-methylpentane-2,4-diol in acetic acid completed the construction of 21.

Glucose Diffusion Limiting Membrane Based on Polyethyleneimine (PEI) Hydrogel for the Stabilization of Glucose Sensor

  • Commercially available continuous glucose sensors require the operation stability for more than two weeks. Typically, the sensor comprises a sensing layer and an over-coating layer for the stable operation inside the body. In the sensing layer, enzymes and mediators are cross-linked together for the effective sensing of the glucose. The over-coating layer limits the flux of glucose and works as a biocompatible layer to the body fluids. Here, we report the simple preparation of the flux-limiting layer by the condensation of polyethyleneimine (PEI), tri-epoxide linker, and trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (PTGE). The sensor is constructed by a layer-by-layer drop-coating of the sensing layer containing glucose dehydrogenase and the PEI-derived blocking layer. It is stable for more than 14 days, which is enough for the sensor in the continuous monitor glucose monitoring (CGM) system.

  • To determine the effect of chemical structure of linear amine curing agents on thermal and mechanical properties, standard epoxy resin DGEBA was cured with diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM), diaminodiphenyl sulphone (DDS) in a stoichiometrically equivalent ratio. From this work, the effect of aromatic amine curing agents. In contrast, the results show that the DGEBA/DDS cure system having the sulfone structure between the benzene rings had higher values in the conversion of epoxide, density, shrinkage (%), glass transition temperature, tensile modulus and strength, flexural modulus and strength than the DGEBA/DDM cure system having methylene structure between the benzene rings, whereas the DGEBA/DDM cure system presented higher values in the maximum exothermic temperature, thermal expansion coefficient, and thermal stability. These results are caused by the relative effects of sulfone group having strong electronegativity and methylene group having (+) repulsive property and stem from the effect of the conversion ratio of epoxide group. The result of fractography shows that the each grain size of the DDM/DGEBA system with feather-like structure is larger than that of the DDS/DGEBA system.
