  • Root colonization of Arabidopsis thaliana with Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 induces systemic tolerance against diverse pathogens, as well as drought and salt stresses. In this study, we demonstrated that 11 genes in the leaves were up-regulated, and 5 genes were down-regulated as the result of three- to five-days root colonization by P. chlororaphis O6. The identified priming genes were involved in cell signaling, transcription, protein synthesis, and degradation. In addition, expression of selected priming genes were induced in P. chlororaphis O6-colonized plants subjected to water withholding. Genes encoding defense proteins in signaling pathways regulated by jasmonic acid and ethylene, such as VSP1 and PDF1.2, were additional genes with enhanced expression in the P. chlororaphis O6-colonized plants. This study indicated that the expression of priming genes, as well as genes involved in jasmonic acid- and ethylene-regulated genes may play an important role in the systemic induction of both abiotic and biotic stress due to root colonization by P. chlororaphis O6.

  • The potential transmission of plant pathogenic viruses through processed foods could be a source of concern for global crop production; however, there is a lack of supporting evidence. The present study was conducted to investigate the presence of plant pathogenic viruses in five samples of gochujang (fermented red pepper paste) manufactured in Korea. Several viruses infecting pepper were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, among which the pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) was detected in all five samples, at concentrations ranging from 2.8 to 7.0 (log10 copies/ml). In addition, PMMoV was observed by transmission electron microscopy in all five samples. The samples exhibited viral pathogenicity to Nicotiana benthamiana plants, indicating that global trade of processed products could be a possible source of the transmission of plant viruses.

  • Green environment is most important factor to human being taking a side view of psychological aspect. But, as the civilization progresses rapidly, the green environment decreases. At present, various environmentally friendly methods are developed to prevent the ill effect of the concretes. n this study, Ecostone retaining wall method, which is a kind of environmentally friendly block, are used for verifying the application to the slope stability and protection of rural hosing. In case of rural hosing and structure, the height of the slope is not high and additional loading doesn't act on the slope except the gravity loading of housing and structure. From the result of the stability analysis of Ecostone, 3m to 7m Ecostone retaining wall can have an equivalence capacity comparing with the concrete retaining wall. Therefore, Ecostone method can apply to retaining wall with the structural safety and environmentally friendly aspect using the plants and vegetation.

  • The stationary-phase sigma factor, RpoS, influences the expression of factors important in survival of Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 in the rhizosphere. A partial proteomic profile of a rpoS mutant in P. chlororaphis O6 was conducted to identify proteins under RpoS regulation. Five of 14 differentially regulated proteins had unknown roles. Changes in levels of proteins in P. chlororaphis O6 rpoS mutant were associated with iron metabolism, and protection against oxidative stress. The P. chlororaphis O6 rpoS mutant showed increased production of a pyoverdine-like siderophore, indole acetic acid, and altered isozyme patterns for peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase. Consequently, sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide exposure increased in the P. chlororaphis O6 rpoS mutant, compared with the wild type. Taken together, RpoS exerted regulatory control over factors important for the habitat of P. chlororaphis O6 in soil and on root surfaces. The properties of several of the proteins in the RpoS regulon are currently unknown.

  • Environmentally friendly agricultural products(EFAPs) are on an increasing trend of supply, but not much enhancing the rate of consumption due to higher premiums and consumers' safety concerns. In order to enlarge the consumption of EFAPs and secure the income of the producing farmers, wholesale market should increase the treating amount of EFAPs and introduce traceability system for satisfying consumers' safety concerns. The purpose of this study is to present strategies of traceability system in wholesale market for environmentally friendly agricultural products. For this purpose, current traceability systems that are introduced and managed by government and private association are examined. For the successful management of the EFAPs' traceability system in wholesale market, the trading system, the functions of wholesale market, the level of consumers' safety concerns, and the managing costs should be considered.

  • This study evaluate examines the efficiency and the improvement measurement of Oilseed crops (Sesame and Perilla). For this purpose, In the first stage, this study analyzes the current conditions of oilseed industry. In the second stage, this study evaluates the efficiency and super-efficiency of environmentally-friendly agricultural product producers. The result of this study show that: (1) Changes in annual wholesale price of Sesame and Perilla; (2) An efficiency and ranking of environmentally-friendly product producers; (3) The solutions and improvement measurements for inefficient producers.

  • This study beings from solving problems of permanent rental housing with environmentally-friendly planning factors to raise quality of life. Environmentally-friendly planning factors of permanent rental housing are derived from the study of references and green building certification systems of other countries. Surveys of inhabitants and experts give weights on these factors. Inhabitants do are focussed natural ventilation, life cycle cost, operation and maintenance cost. This reflects their interest in indoor amenity and a burden on the cost. Experts put more weights on pedestrian spaces considering the old and feeble persons and block planning. Besides, T-test pointed out that there are meaningful differences in land use between inhabitants and experts. Though inhabitants' opinion has priority because they are real user, experts' opinion which has the variety and the view in the long term should be reflected.

  • This study investigated dynamic causal relationship between CSR implementation and consumption of environmentally friendly fashion products through systems thinking. Based on literature review and empirical research, we drew causal loop diagram for CSR implementation in environmentally friendly fashion product industry. By analyzing feedback loops, we found that companies and consumers interact in the process of CSR activities. In the process of CSR implementation, companies and consumers are closely related and affect each other as stimuli and prior condition. This study suggests that companies adopt push strategy to actively create demand by developing and promoting environmentally friendly fashion products and that companies communicate with consumers in order to be recognized and rewarded by consumers for their CSR activities. In addition, this study suggests that consumers not only support companies of CSR activities but also actively boycott anti-environmental companies by collective action.

  • According to the New Town Development Plan, Gang-buk area, a symbol of slum in Seoul will be changed new residential area. There are a lot of challenges for success this project. First of all, new ways of city plan "pre-plan and development" and "environmentally friendly development" are necessary to carry out this plan. Another important idea is how to overcome conflicts such as unbalanced development, a traffic jam and environment problem. Also, Government and a citizen agree that this project have to accept eco-protectable and sustainable development theory. For increasing green area ratio and keeping eco-diversity, planting at roofs and water circulation system in residential complex are compulsory. Green network based on environmentally friendly development provides a natural energe stream on eco-system and protects a city from air pollution, hot air island phenomenon and a flood.

  • This study purports to investigate the status quo of the environmentally-friendly green healthcare in teaching hospitals through the questionnaire survey. Data were collected from a total of 46 hospitals. The survey results revealed that most teaching hospitals did not meet the global standard of environmentally-friendly green hospitals. Especially, such items as alternative energy system, water recycling, CO2 emission reduction, green building construction, installation of pond or spring were found to be significantly below global standard. Based upon the study results, various strategies for establishing green hospitals were discussed. For example, energy saving design, such as solar heating, natural wind cooling, automatic temperature controller, green material use, wall surrounded by ivy, were recommended. In conclusion, the strategy and evaluation tool developed in the study will provide a good guide for establishing environmentally-friendly green hospitals.
