The use of electromagnetic wave has been interested in various energy industry because it enhances a flame stability and provides higher safety environments. However it might increase the pollutant emissions such as NOx and soot, and have harmful influence on human and environments. Therefore, it is very important to understand interaction mechanism between flame and electromagnetic wave from environmental point of view. In this study, an experiment was performed with jet diffusion flames induced by electromagnetic wave. Microwave was used as representative electromagnetic wave and a flickering flame was introduced to simulate the more similar combustion condition to industry. The results show that the induced microwave enhances the flame stability and blowout limit. The unstable lifted flickering flames under low fuel/oxidizer velocity is changed to stable attached flames or lift-off flames when microwave applied to the flames, which results from the abundance of radical pool. However, NOx emission was increased monotonically with increasing the microwave power as microwave power increased up to 1.0 kW. The effects might be attributed to the heating of combustion field and thermal NOx mechanism will be prevailed. Soot particle was examined at the post flame region by TEM grid. The morphology of soot particle sampled in the microwave induced flames was similar to the incipient soot that is not agglomerated and contain a lots of liquid phase hydrocarbon such as PAH, which soot particle formed near reaction zone is oxidized on the extended yellow flame region and hence only unburned young particles are emitted on the post flame region.

As the environmental pollution becomes serious global problem, the regulation of emission exhausted from automobiles is strengthened. Therefore, it is very important to know how to reduce the NOx and PM simultaneously in diesel engines, which has lot of merits such as high thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and durability. By this reason, the new concept called as Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition(HCCI) engines are spotlighted because this concept reduced NOx and P.M. simultaneously. However, it is well known that HCCI engines increased HC and CO. Thus, the investigation of combustion characteristics which consists cool and hot flames for HCCI engines were needed to obtain the optimal combustion condition. In this study, combustion characteristics for direct injection type HCCI engine such as quantity of cool flame and hot flame, ignition timing and ignition delay were investigated to clarify the effects of these parameters on performance. The results revealed that diesel combustion showed the two-stage ignition of cool flame and hot flame, the rate of cool flame increase and hot flame decrease with increasing intake air temperature. On the other hand, the gasoline combustion is the single-stage ignition and ignition timing is near the TDC. In addition mixed fuel combustion showed different phenomenon, which depends on the ratio of gasoline component. Ignition timing of mixed fuel is retarded near the TDC and the ignition delay is increased according to ratio of gasoline.
The micro crack was occurred where the stress concentrated by the thermal stress which was induced during the cooling period after molding process or by the various reliability tests. In order to estimate the possibility of development from inside micro crack to outside fracture, the fracture toughness of EMC should be measured under the various applicable condition. But study was conducted very rarely for the above area. In order to provide a was to decide the fracture resistance of EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound) of plastic package which is produced by using transfer molding method, measuring fracture is studied. The specimens were made with various EMC material. The diverse combination of test conditions, such as different temperature, temperature /humidity conditions, different filler shapes, and post cure treatment, were tried to examine the effects of environmental condition on the fracture toughness. This study proposed a way which could improve the reliability of LOC(Lead On Chip) type package by comparing the measured $J_{IC}$ of EMC and the calculated J-integral value from FEM(Finite Element Method). The measured $K_{IC}$ value of EMC above glass transition temperature dropped sharply as the temperature increased. The $K_{IC}$ was observed to be higher before the post cure treatment than after the post cure treatment. The change of $J_{IC}$ was significant by time change. J-integral was calculated to have maximum value the angle of the direction of fracture at the lead tip was 0 degree in SOJ package and -30 degree in TSOP package. The results FEM simulation were well agreed with the results of measurement within 5% tolerance. The package crack was proved to be affected more by the structure than by the composing material of package. The structure and the composing material are the variables to reduce the package crack.ack.

Solution processed organic photovoltaic devices have relatively less attention compared to polymer photovoltaic devices even though they have high possibility to be developed because they have both advantages of polymer and organic, such as solution processable, no synthetic batch dependence of photovoltaic performance, high purity and high charge carrier mobility as well as relatively high efficiency (~7%). In addition, solution processed organic photovoltaic devices have an advantage of easiness to study the relationship between the molecular structure and photovoltaic performance due to its simple structure. In this work, five isoindigo based low band gap donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) small molecules with different electron donating strength were synthesized for investigating the relationship between the molecular structure and photovoltaic performance, especially, investigating the effects of different electron donating effect of donor group in isoindigo backbone to photovoltaic device performance. The variation of electron donating strength of donor group strongly affected the optical, thermal, electrochemical and photovoltaic device performances of isoindigo organic materials. The highest power conversion efficiency of ~3.2% was realized in bulk heterojuction photovoltaic device consisted of the ID3T as donor and PC70BM as acceptor. This work demonstrates the great potential of isoindigo moieties as electron deficient units as well as guideline for synthesis of donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) small molecules for realizing highly efficient solution processed organic photovoltaic devices.

The use of additive manufacturing processes for the repair and remanufacturing of mechanical parts has attracted considerable attention because of strict environmental regulations. Directed energy deposition (DED) is widely used to retrofit mechanical parts. In this study, finite element analyses (FEAs) were performed to investigate the influence of the substrate phase and inclination angle on the heat transfer characteristics in the vicinity of Hastelloy X regions deposited via DED. FE models that consider the bead size and hatch distance were designed. A volumetric heat source model with a Gaussian distribution in a plane was adopted as the heat flux model for DED. The substrate and the deposited powder were S45C structural steel and Hastelloy X, respectively. Temperature-dependent thermal properties were considered while performing the FEAs. The effects of the substrate phase and inclination angle on the temperature distributions and depth of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in the vicinity of the deposited regions were examined. Furthermore, the influence of deposition paths on depths of the HAZ were investigated. The results of the analyses were used to determine the suitable phase and inclination angle of the substrate as well as the appropriate deposition path.
This study examines the relationship between three-dimensional urban built environment and urban surface temperature using LANDSAT 8 satellite image data in Seoul city. The image was divided into 600m×600m grid units as an unit of analysis. Due to the high level of spatial dependency in surface temperature, this study uses spatial statistics to take into account spatial auto-correlation. The spatial error model shows the best goodness of fit. The analysis results show that the three-dimensional built environment and transport environment as well as natural environment have statistically significant associations with surface temperature. First, natural environment variables such as green space, streams and river, and average elevation show statistically significant negative association with surface temperature. Second, the building area shows a positive association with surface temperature. In addition, while sky view factor (SVF) has a positive association with surface temperature, surface roughness (SR) shows a negative association with it. Third, transportation related variables such as road density, railway density, and traffic volume show positive associations with surface temperature. Moreover, this study finds that SVF and SR have different effects on surface temperature in regard to the levels of total floor areas in built environment. The results indicate that interactions between floor area ratio (FAR) and three-dimensional built environmental variables such as SVF and SR should be considered to reduce urban surface temperature.

Recently, people's interest in marine leisure has been increasing, and research and development on leisure boats are actively being carried out to pioneer overseas markets. These days, the materials used for leisure boats are fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) and aluminum alloy. However, FRP is hygroscopic and causes environmental problems, and aluminum alloy has high thermal conductivity and fire susceptibility. Therefore, titanium alloy is being adopted as a material for leisure boats instead. In this study, hull thicknesses and design pressures were calculated while considering dynamic effects for titanium boats. Four sets of rules and regulations were used: ISO 12215-5, RINA Pleasure Yacht, LR Special Service Craft, and KR High-speed Light Craft. The maximum bottom slamming loads were in the order of ISO, KR, LR, and RINA, and the required hull thicknesses were in the same order. This research might be helpful for understanding the rules, regulations, and overseas export of leisure boats.

In this study, the effects of Low Earth Orbit(LEO) environments on the degradation behavior of epoxy nano silica composite materials were investigated. The nanocomposite materials containing silica particles in different weight ratios of 10% and 18% were prepared and degraded in a LEO simulator to compare with the neat epoxy cases. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed on the degraded nanocomposites and the activation energies were calculated by Friedman method, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) method, Kissinger method, and DAEM (Distributed Activation Energy Method) based on the iso-conversional method. As the results, for the neat epoxy sample cases, it was found that the average activation energy was increased as the degradation was progressed. When the nano particles were mixed, however, the energy increased to the 15 environmental test cycles, and decreased afterwards, meaning that the particle mixture contributed adversely to the thermal degradation. Discussions on the results of the different calculation methods were also given.
FK506BP (FK506 binding protein 12) is a small peptide with a single FK506BP domain. It is involved in suppression of immune response, oxidative stress and inflammation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the gene expression of FK506BP in red seabream (Pagrus major) exposure to low water temperature (8℃, 33 psu) and low salinity (20℃, 10 psu). Results showed that, the expression of FK506BP was significantly increased in the experiment groups, such as low water temperature (8℃, 33 psu), and low salinity (20℃, 10 psu). These results suggest that FK506BP was played roles in biomarker gene on the environmental stress such as water temperature and salinity.
Ice wedges are subsurface ice mass structures that formed mainly by freezing precipitation with airborne dust and surrounding soil particles flowed through the active layer into the cracks growing by repeating thermal contractions in the deeper permafrost layer over time. These ice masses characteristically contain high concentrations of solutes and solids. Because of their unique properties and distribution, the possibility of harnessing ice wedges as an alternative archive for reconstructing paleoclimate and paleoenvironment has been recently suggested despite limited studies. It is imperative to preserve the physicochemical properties of the ice wedge (e.g., solute concentration, mineral particles) without any potential alteration to use it as a proxy for reconstructing the paleo-information. Thawing the ice wedge samples is prerequisite for the assessment of their physicochemical properties, during which the paleo-information could be unintentionally altered by any methodological artifact. This study examined the effect of thawing conditions and procedures on the physicochemical properties of solutes and solid particles in ice wedge samples collected from Cyuie, East Siberia. Four different thawing conditions with varying temperatures (4 and 23℃) and oxygen exposures (oxic and anoxic) for the ice wedge sample treatment were examined. Ice wedge samples thawed at 4℃ under anoxic conditions, wherein biological activity and oxidation were kept to a minimum, were set as the standard thawing conditions to which the effects of temperature and oxygen were compared. The results indicate that temperature and oxygen exposure have negligible effects on the physicochemical characteristics of the solid particles. However, the chemical features of the solution (e.g., pH, electric conductivity, alkalinity, and concentration of major cations and trace elements) at 4℃ under oxic conditions were considerably altered, compared to those measured under the standard thawing conditions. This study shows that the thawing condition of ice wedge samples can affect their chemical features and thereby the geochemical information therein for the reconstruction of the paleoclimate and/or paleoenvironment.
