  • Packaging has been regarded as a environmental problem because of its relatively high portion of municipal solid wastes. Especially, cosmetic packaging has been focused because of characteristics of cosmetic packaging. Cosmetic products are highly sensitive products that pursue the beauty differently from other products. Cosmetic packaging materials are difficult to be recycled. Purpose of this study is to suggest the method to improve the environmental friendly packaging of cosmetic products. This study contains the major governmental policies on the cosmetic packaging in terms of environment issues in Korea, and suggested methods to develop the environmental friendly packaging of cosmetic products.

  • Recently, there is growing recognition that we should protect an environment in all industries. As one of the OECD in the world trade market, we have to apply the Envirormentally Conscious Logistics System(ECLS) considering an environment seriously, and to implement environmentally conscious logistics activities. A packaging of entire logistics system have to also do it. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to discuss and to make an overture which an environmental packaging system of logistics system is by introducing a case study.

  • In this research, what megatrends will be derived for the future society and what new packaging technology will be required in the future were researched. Megatrends were researched in the five major categories, demographical, social, consumer, packaging related science and technology, governmental regulations and law trend. The six new packaging technologies were predicted, Active/Passive packaging technology, Intelligent Communication packaging technology, Nanotechnology packaging technology, Universal Convenience packaging technology, Environmental Friendly packaging technology, and Package Design technology.

Effects of Packaging Methods on the Shelf Life of Selenium-Supplemented Chicken Meat during Refrigerated Storage

  • Effects of vacuum packaging and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on shelf life of selenium-supplemented chicken meat during refrigerated storage were examined. Body weight and feed efficiency were unaffected by dietary selenium level. Dietary treatments and packaging methods had no significant effects on level of microbial growth, lightness, and metmyoglobin content. MAP decreased purge loss (10.9-34.5%) and lipid oxidation (15.2-15.9%) more efficiently than vacuum packaging. Broiler chicks supplemented with ${\alpha}$-tocopherol or ${\alpha}$-tocopherol + selenium had similar TBA values. Dietary supplementation of 4 and 8 ppm selenium reduced lipid oxidation, and this effect was less significant in MAP breast meat.
