  • A submittal, as a part of three main project management processes: production control, submittals and change orders, is the transmission of information from the subcontractor to the general contractor to the owner, architect, and structural engineer, for review and approval. The purpose of the submittal process is for submittals to be approved in order to start construction. This benefits the contractor by ensuring that the finished project will meet the expectations of the owner. This paper analyzed a case study regarding the submittal process for the local-based environmental construction company, which typically works as a subcontractor and may hire other subcontractors for additional work when applicable. The aim of this study was to roughly evaluate a project management process and understand the submittal process through the study of a case involving the local company.

  • 3-D wall panels are used in construction of exterior and interior bearing and non-load bearing walls and floors of building of all types of construction. Fast construction, thermal insulation, reduced labor expense and weight saving are the most well pronounced advantage of such precast system. When the structural performance is concerned, the main disadvantage of 3D panel, when used as floor slab, is their brittleness in flexure. The current study focuses on upgrading ductility and load carrying capacity of 3D slabs in two different ways; using additional tension reinforcement, and inserting a longitudinal concentrated beam. The research is carried on both experimentally and numerically. The structural performance in terms of load carrying capacity and flexural ductility are discussed in details. The obtained results could give better understanding and design consideration of such prefabricated system.

  • The development of Top-Mounted In-Core Instrumentation(TM-ICI) is an ongoing project to reduce the risk due to severe accidents by inserting the instrumentation into a reactor closure head instead of a reactor bottom head. As part of this project, environmental fatigue analyses for TM-ICI nozzle have been performed using two methods of NUREG/CR-6909 and Code Case N-761. TM-ICI nozzle is subjected to transient loads for level A, level B and test conditions that should be evaluated for a fatigue analysis. It is found that a cumulative usage factor considering reactor coolant environment for TM-ICI nozzle is evaluated as less than 1, which is ASME Code allowable criteria of a fatigue analysis.

  • Vast quantities of environmental pollutants from construction projects are causing significant damage to nearby local communities and thus generate environmental complaints. The construction company, responsible for compensating and resolving environmental complaints, suffers economic damages due to additional expenditures and schedule delays in construction projects. Meanwhile, the construction industry can stagnate from a broader perspective. Therefore, this study aimed to propose a framework for developing an automated management system which consists of two models for environmental complaints in construction projects: (i) the prediction model: a model for predicting environmental complaints based on factors related to environmental complaints; and (ii) the prevention model: a model for providing construction companies with the optimal prevention measure to effectively prevent environmental complaints according to the results of the prediction model. In addition, the algorithm for integrating the developed models into the management system in construction projects was proposed. Eventually, the application of the management system to construction projects can ensure the profitability of construction companies and mitigate damage from environmental pollutants to the nearby local community.

  • Recently, as the construction industry trend is changed to the market orientation which focuses on the autonomy and competition, the most construction companies try to adapt the new environment. Thus, this study analyzes the correlations of business strategy and core competency taken by the construction company to survive from the rapidly changing environment between the growth rate and rate of return of the company. Throughout the existing researches and theoretical studies, a business strategy and core competency of the construction company is drawn, and based on this, this study surveyed 746 construction companies. The results of the survey showed that the business strategy has any relationship with growth rate and rate of return and the core competency of the construction company has no relationship with rate of return either, while the core competency shows the relationship with the growth rate. Thus, it is analyzed that the construction company which has higher growth rate also has the high core competency level.

  • The Singapore construction market has just recovered from the decline of the last seven years. Past annual construction volume remains around S$10 to 12 billion and the market is saturated with local and international contractors. This study examined the competitiveness of the construction market from the perspective of a Chinese contractor. The case company in this study is China Construction (SP) Development Co Pte Ltd. The purpose of this study is to use strategic research and management methods to analyze the case company's internal and external environment and development strategies, so as to bring about the approaches and measures to achieve its strategic targets.

  • This paper presents the results of a statistical analysis and its research findings focusing on the learning aspect in the process of international joint ventures (IJVs). The contents of this paper is derived from a sample of 96 field cases based on a proposed conceptual model of effective learning for international construction joint ventures (ICJVs). The paper presents a brief review on the conceptual model with hypotheses and summarized the key results of statistical analysis including factor and multiple regression analysis for the testing of the validity of the proposed conceptual model and its associated research hypotheses. Among other research findings, the research confirms that ICJVs provides an excellent platform of in-action learning for construction organization and suggests that good outcomes in learning could be reaped by a company who has a clear learning intent from the beginning and subsequently take corresponding learning actions during the full process of the joint venture.

  • The solution-state of a reclaimed waste would be known to the method in using an analysis for seepage. But it is not the best method in the huge landfill reclaimed all kinds of the waste at random. Especially in case of the landfill called the Nan Gi-do located along the Han-river, it is difficult to judge the generative seepage to be flowed in to the Han-river. So to plan the effective stabilization on a landfill, it is very useful survey method using the Landsat TM image. Operating a heat-distribution analysis with the Landsat TM image, in case of a landfill not having definite data, we would assume the reclaimed sections of the waste to judge a solution-speed late comparatively such as a industry waste or a harmful waste through the heat change.

  • The building remodeling is providing a lot of solutions - structural, aesthetic, environmental, and energy performance improvement - in improving buildings performance and environment. The remodelings influences on our society are resource conservation, environmental conservation, expansion of construction market, and creation of new employment. The three principal remodeler groups involved in this building remodeling are general construction contractors, interior architecture contractors, and ESCO (Energy Service Company). Having a representative character, this study classifies remodeling methods into five types: structural remodeling, spatial remodeling, exterior remodeling, environment-friendly remodeling, and ecological remodeling.
