Objective: This study describes the change of operator performance in drastic change of illumination level, and proposes an alternative method to cope with it. Background: The control standard of illumination for nuclear power plants(NPPs) is based on the set of limit criteria for maintaining a specific illumination level. However, there is a possibility to cause human errors according to the psychological and physiological influences to operators in the situation of drastic change of illumination such as SBO(Station Black Out), so a basic study is necessary to review the current approach. Method: We assessed the visual fatigue, subjective work load and task performance according to the three illumination situations(Normal Illumination, Emergency Illumination, and Drastic Change of Illumination). Result: Research finding shows that there are not significant differences in task performance between normal illumination (1,000lx level) and emergency illumination (100lx level), only if beyond the dark adaptation limit. However, subjective work load on mental demand and visual fatigue show a potential challenge to visual performance in drastic change of illumination. Conclusion/Application: Several trials can complement this challenge in NPPs by applying 3-way communication, enhancing readability of procedures, and managing the visual factors affecting the operators' performance through a Visual Environment Management Program including visual health aspects, etc.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of abolishing the low-pesticide agricultural product certification on environmentally friendly farming. A survey was conducted to quantitatively analyze farming practices and factors that change farming practice. It was found that only 17.0% of low-pesticide fruit farmers said that they will change their farming practice into organic or pesticide-free farming. With regard to the factors of farming practice change, binomial logistic regression model was applied for the analysis. In the analysis, it was found that farmers who grow the low-pesticide agricultural product are more likely to change their farming practice into organic or pesticide-free farming, as their expected price of organic or pesticide-free products is high, their area size is small, price premium of low-pesticide agricultural product is low, the frequency of their training is high. It is necessary to enhance the direct payment system to enlarge organic and nonpesticide acreage, and pest management techniques for fruits should be developed for low-pesticide fruit farmers to change their practice into organic and nonpesticide practice. Dissemination of cultivation manual, introduction of insurance to farmers, improvement of certificate system, and advertising and marketing of environment-friendly agricultural products are useful to develop environment-friendly agriculture.

Climate Change affects the hydrological cycle in agricultural watersheds through rising air temperature and changing rainfall patterns. Agricultural watersheds in Korea are characterized by extensive paddy fields and intensive water use, a resource that is under stress from the changing climate. This study analyzed the effects of climate change on river flows for Geum Cheon and Eun-San Choen watershed using STREAM, a semi-distributed watershed model. In order to evaluate the performance and improve the reliability of the model, calibration and validation of the model was done for one flow observation point and three reservoir water storage ratio points. Climate change scenarios were based on RCP data provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and bias corrections were done using the Quantile Mapping method to minimize the uncertainties in the results produced by the climate model to the local scale. Because of water mass-balance, evapotranspiration tended to increase steadily with an increase in air temperature, while the increase in RCP 8.5 scenario resulted in higher RCP 4.5 scenario. The increase in evapotranspiration led to a decrease in the river flow, particularly the decrease in the surface runoff. In the paddy agricultural watershed, irrigation water demand is expected to increase despite an increase in rainfall owing to the high evapotranspiration rates occasioned by climate change.
We explore the impact of Chinese future air pollutant emissions on ozone air quality in Northeast Asia (NEA) and health in South-Korea using an assessment framework including ICAMS (The Integrated Climate and Air Quality Modeling System) and BenMAP (The Environmental Benefits Mapping and Analysis Program). The emissions data sets from the climate change scenarios, the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) (emission scenarios, EMSO), are used to simulate ozone air quality in NEA in the current (1996~2005, 2000s), the near future (2016~2025, 2020s) and the distant future (2046~2055, 2050s). Furthermore, the simulated ozone changes in the 2050s are used to analyze ozone-related premature mortality and economic cost in South-Korea. While different EMSOs are applied to the China region, fixed EMSO are used for other country regions to isolate the impacts of the Chinese emissions. Predicted ozone changes in NEA are distinctively affected by large changes in NOx emission over most of China region. Comparing the 2020s with the 2000s situation, the largest increase in mean ozone concentrations in NEA is simulated under RCP 8.5 and similarly small increases are under other RCPs. In the 2050s in NEA, the largest increase in mean ozone concentrations is simulated under RCP 6.0 and leads to the occurrence of the highest premature mortalities and economic costs in South-Korea. Whereas, the largest decrease is simulated under RCP 4.5 leads to the highest avoided premature mortality numbers and economic costs. Our results suggest that continuous reduction of NOx emissions across the China region under an assertive climate change mitigation scenario like RCP 4.5 leads to improved future ozone air quality and health benefits in the NEA countries including South-Korea.

As the amount of informatization investment is rapidly increasing in many organizations, it becomes more inevitable to manage computing resources (information systems, computing facilities and manpower etc.) effectively. Specially, in public sector It is thought to be very important to achieve the economy of scale by integrating computing resources which are managed individually in many agencies. Also, our government have been recently making much efforts to raise the effectiveness of operating the information systems by promoting joint information use among many public agencies, enhancing the operating systems and the expertise of IS staff and applying the optimal information security systems. This study focuses on presenting the framework to effectively integrate omputing resources and proposing the ways of constructing and operating the integrated computing environment for the institutions and the affiliated groups under the Ministry of Culture & Tourism which are in charge of implementing cultural informatization. The main implications of this study are 1) building the ideal model of the integrated computing environment architecture suitable to cultural informatization area, 2) showing the criteria of deciding whether the organizations use the Integrated computing environment or not and how extensively they commit their computing resources to it, and 3) suggesting the ways of the phased integration and the change management to minimize confusion in the process of adopting the integrated computing environment and behavioral problems such as conflict and resistance of IS-related Personnel Influenced by Implementing the integrated computing environment.
Natural stream work has been implemented recently to improve the urban stream environment in Korean cities. Many plants planted in the early work have not survived because they were not suited to the site and therefore failed to adapt to the riparian environment. The objective of this study is to investigate the floral change at the riparian environment after completion of the natural stream work by comparing the differences between planted species during the work and the current species at the study site. The study site was the stream area between Yeongdohng 2 bridge and Yeongdohng 3 bridge at Yangjae-cheon Stream, Gangnam-ku, Seoul, which was the prototype site of G-7 project of the Ministry of Environment in Korea. The following conclusions were derived after doing this study: Among the 50 species planted during the work, 23 species survived in the stream zone, while 27 species did not. The species that did not survive were ornamental plants that were not appropriate for the riparian environment. Among the 144 species which appeared naturally, 77 species(53.5%) were annuals and perennials, which means the study site is still in ecological disturbance and does not have a stable status ecologically. Thus, it is necessary to select the plant species that can survive in the disturbed riparian environment.
Today, the development of industries and rapid urbanization has a profound impact on the human environment. It can be said that the environment in the craft village is most affected. The environment in these areas is severely degraded and depending on the type of production, the environment in the craft villages is different. In Phong Khe ward of Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam, there are over 204 small and large facilities of recycling and producing paper. The paper facilities produce about 200,000 tons of paper each year and the amount of paper produced is not less than 500 tons each day in Phong Khe. They are creating livelihoods for more than 6,000 workers and generating local budgets from VND- 50 billion to VND 60 billion per year. Despite this great contribution, the use of old machines and "backward" modes of production means that paper recycling has caused serious air, soil, and water pollution in the region. The specific objectives of this study were as follows: (1) provide an overview of paper production process in the Phong Khe paper craft village; (2) comprehensive literature review of the current status of water environment, atmosphere environment, soil environment and solid waste; (3) figure out about waste treatment in Phong Khe ward.
The optimal byproduct gas supply system was developed for the optimal management of the byproduct gases in the iron and steel making process based on EXCEL environment. It supplies optimal byproduct gas distribution result as well as analysis including expected electricity generation, holder level change, amount of oil consumption, energy distribution to each boiler, and efficiency of energy resource. To reflect the changing environment of the plant such as maintenance, the system was developed to easily change the optimization model for changing configuration of the system. To verify the performance of the system , case studies for various situation was performed with the developed system, a...
