A nonlinear analytical model has been proposed for two-span two-story reinforced concrete frames with relaxed section details. The analytical model is composed of beam, column, and beam-column joint elements. The goal of this study is to develop a simple and light nonlinear model for two-dimensional reinforced concrete frames since research in earthquake engineering is usually involved in a large number of nonlinear dynamic analyses. Therefore, all the nonlinear behaviors are modeled to be concentrated on flexural plastic hinges at the end of beams and columns, and the center of beam-column joints. The envelope curve and hysteretic rule of the nonlinear model for each element are determined based on experimental results, not theoretical approach. The simple and light proposed model can simulate the experimental results well enough for nonlinear analyses in earthquake engineering. Consequently, the proposed model will make it easy to developing a nonlinear model of the entire frame and help to save time to operate nonlinear analyses.
The objective of this study is to analyze the deformational characteristics of a high-vacuum insulation panel that is evacuated to eliminate significant gas-phase conductance through its thickness. The panel is composed of a metal envelope and low thermal conductance spacers. The problem is very challenging because several nonlinearities are involved concurrently. Not only are various finite element models such as triangular, rectangular, beam and circular plate models used to simulate the panel, but also several finite element programs are used to solve the problem based on the characteristics of the finite element model. The numerical results indicate that the effect of the diameter of the spacer on the vertical deformation of the plate panel is negligibly small. The parameter that mainly influences the maximum sag is the spacing between the spacers. The maximum vertical deformation of the panel can be predicted for a practical range of the spacing between the spacers and the thickness of the plate. Compared with the numerical results obtained by the finite element models and the experimental tests, they have a good agreement. The results are represented in both tabular and graphical forms. In order to make the results useful, a curve fitting technique has been applied to predict the maximum deformation of the panel with various parameters. Moreover, the panel was suggested to be a "smart" structure based on thermal effect.
Prediction of composite fatigue life is not a straightforward matter, depending on various failure modes and their interactions. In this paper, a methodology is presented to predict fatigue life and residual strength of composite materials based on Phenomenological Model(non-linear fatigue damage model). It is assumed that the residual strength is a monotonically decreasing function of the number of loading cycles and applied fatigue stress ratio and the model parameters(strength degradation parameter and fatigue shape parameter) are assumed as function of fatigue life. Then S-N curve is used to extract model parameters that are required to characterize the stress levels comprising a randomly-ordered load spectrum. Different stress ratios (${\sigma}_{min}/{\;}{\sigma}_{max}$) are handled with Goodman correction approach(fatigue envelope) and the residual strength after an arbitrary load cycles is represented by two parameter weibull functions.
In order to analyze the experimental hysteretic behavior of the in-plane loaded reinforced grouted multi-ribbed aerated concrete blocks masonry walls (RGMACBMW), we have carried out the pseudo static testing on the six specimens of RGMACBMW. Based on the test results and shear failure characteristics, the shear force hysteretic curves and displacement envelope curves of the models were obtained and discussed. On the basis of the hysteretic curves a general skeleton curve of the shear force and displacement was formed. The restoring model was adopted to analyze the seismic behavior and earthquake response of RGMACBMW. The deformation capacity of the specimens was discussed, and the formulas for calculating the lateral stiffness of the walls at different loading stages were proposed as well. The average lateral displacement ductility factor of RGMACBMW calculated based on the test results was 3.16. This value illustrates that if the walls are appropriately designed, it can fully meet the seismic requirement of the structures. The quadri-linear restoring models of the walls degradation by the test results accurately reflect the hysteretic behaviors and skeleton curves of the masonry walls. The restoring model can be applied to the RGMACBMW structure in earthquake response analysis.

The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIF ; $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$) were studied in some polymeric materials using caustics method with a high speed camera system. Also crack tip propagation speed was measured by dynamic crack propagation velocity measuring device. To calculate DSIF a finite element analysis program-INha Stress Analysis Moving CRack(INSAMCR) was utilized. Dynamic fracture characteristics were investigated to verify a relationship between DSIF and crack tip propagation speed and acceleration in PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate. The relationship between dynamic stress intensity factor and crack tip velocity revealed typical shapes. Measured crack tip acceleration data envelope converges to the zero level with increasing DSIF. Equivalently crack tip velocities show a wide spread range at low values of DSIF, but become a constant with a higher DSIF. $1.2MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, $1.4MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ and $1.3 MPa{\sqrt{m}}$ were obtained as $K_{I}$$^{dyn}$ values to arrest the dynamic crack for PMMA, Homalite-100 and Polycarbonate, respectively. INSAMCR was run to verify experimental results in PMMA and shows good agreementment.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the muscle activities and the characteristics of muscle recruting patterns of lower limb for crouching start technique using four elite splint. The EMG technique was used to record muscle activities of both right and left sides of retus femoris, vastus medialis, biceps femoris, and gastrocnemius. Eight surface electrodes were placed on the surface of the selected muscles and one ground electrode was also attached on the back of neck(C7). One video camera was also used to record the crouching start motion to define 6 events and 5 phases for further analysis. The raw EMG data were filtered with band pass filter(10-350) to remove artifacts and then low pass filtered(4Hz) to find the linear envelope which resemble muscle tension curve. This filter EMG data were normalized to MVIC for the purpose of comparison between right and left sides muscle. The results of this study were as follows. All four subjects showed that vastus medialis muscle activity was comparatively higher than those of retus femoris, biceps femoris, gastrocnemius. And left side of muscle activity was comparatively higher than right side of muscle activity. Therefore, when the subjects starting out crouching start position, we recognized that the muscle of lower limb showed interaction effect by each muscle.

In this study, the seismic strengthening technique considering the rocking behavior of the wall was developed. The rocking system rotates left and right around the vertical axis of the wall. The development system is a method of dissipating energy by installing a damper which was attached at a large displacement portion. The damper was made of a steel material, and the shape and height of the strut were selected as variables. Experimental results showed that in case of shorter strut make strength capacity increasement and in case of longer strut make deformation capacity increasement. As a result of comparing the abilities according to I and S type strut shapes, it was evaluated that S type has better seismic performance.
In earthquake engineering, dynamic analyses are usually conducted by using a nonlinear analytical model of the entire building in order to identify the performance against earthquakes. At the same time, a large number of dynamic analyses are required to consider uncertainties on analytical models and ground motions. Therefore, it is necessary for the analytical model to be adequate, that is to say, the runtime should not be too long as the entire building is modeled to be in much detail, or the nonlinear model should not yield outputs very far from the actual ones by excluding important behaviors too much. The analytical model is usually developed based on experimental results, which have been already conducted for reinforced concrete columns with relaxed details. Therefore, this study aimed at making analytical models to be able to simulate the hysteretic behavior of the columns simply and easily. The analytical model utilizes a lumped hinge model to represent nonlinear moment-rotation hysteretic behavior of RC columns, which is feasible for nonlinear dynamic analyses usually conducted in earthquake engineering and for matching the analytical model to test results. For the analytical model, elements and material models provided by OpenSees are utilized. The analytical model can define the envelope curve, pinching, and unloading stiffness deterioration, but shortcoming of this model is not to be able to consider axial force-moment interaction directly and to simulate strength deterioration after post-capping completely. However, the analytical model can still represent test results well by considering that the goal of this study is to propose a general way to represent the hysteretic behavior of RC columns with relaxed details, not to provide parameters for a refined hysteretic model that can be just applied case by case.
In the past, there was a theory that influenza wasn't transmitted directly from birds but was infected to humans via swains. Recently, molecular level research has progressed, and it was confirmed that the avian influenza virus can directly infected to human lung and intestinal epithelial cells. Three pandemicsin the past 100 years were also infected to humans directly from birds. In view of such scientific background, we are developing a method for screening sick birds by monitoring the physiological characteristics of birds in a contactless manner with sensors. Here, the movement of respiratory muscles and abdominal muscles under autonomic innervation was monitored using a magnet and Hall sensor sewn on the thoracic wall, and other multimedia devices. This paper presents and discusses the results of experiments involving continuous periodic noise discovered during flight experiments with a data logger mounted on a Japanese pheasant from 2012 to 2015. A brief summary is given as the below: 1. Magnet and Hall sensor sewn to the left and right chest walls, bipolar electrocardiograms between the thoracic walls, posterior thoracic air sac pressure, angular velocity sensors sewn on the back and hips, and optical reflection of LEDs (blue and green) from the skin of the hips allow observation of periodic vibrations(fasciculations) in the waves. No such analysis has been reported before. 2. These fasciculations are presumed to be derived from muscle to maintain and control air sac pressure. 3. Since each muscle fiber is spatially Gaussian distributed from the sympathetic nerve, the envelope is assumed to plot a Gaussian curve. 4. Since avian trunk muscles contract periodically at all time, we assume that the sympathetic nerve dominates in their control. 5. The technique of sewing a magnet to the thoracic wall and measuring the strength of the magnetic field with a Hall sensor can be applied to screen for early stage of avian influenza, with a sensor attached to the chicken enclosure.
The shear strength of weathered granite soils under unsaturated condition was evaluated by $K_0$ consolidated triaxial tests. Various matric suctions in the unsaturated triaxial tests were applied using suction-controlled triaxial test apparatus for weathered granite soils obtained in Daegu. Soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) laboratory tests for drying and wetting procedure were performed and van Genuchten curves were fitted by experimental results. The contribution of matric suction in unsaturated soils is directly correlated to effective stress and evaluated from SWCCs. The effective stresses were estimated from these SWCCs and the relationship between effective stress and unsaturated shear strength was determined. In the effective stress description, the unsaturated shear strength with respect to various suctions indicates unique relationship and almost the same as that of the saturated envelope.
