  • The fuzzy entropy is proposed for measuring of uncertainty with the help of relation between distance measure and similarity measure. The proposed fuzzy entropy is constructed through a distance measure. In this study, Hamming distance measure is employed for a distance measure. Also a similarity measure is constructed through a distance measure for the measure of similarity between fuzzy sets or crisp sets and the proposed fuzzy entropies and similarity measures are proved.

  • For data analysis, fuzzy entropy is introduced as the measure of fuzziness, similarity measure is also constructed to represent similarity between data. Similarity measure between fuzzy membership functions is constructed through distance measure, and the proposed similarity measure are proved. Application of proposed similarity measure to the example of reliable data selection is also carried out. Application results are compared with the previous results that is obtained through fuzzy entropy and statistical knowledge.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a method for selecting the preferred alternatives of Multiple- Attribute Decision-Making(MADM) problem using the Entropy measure. A decision-maker who wants to estimate exactly the weight to be applied to her/his MADM problem is usually confronted with the embarrassing situation where, although there exist a variety of weighting methods, it is hard to find a right procedure to choose a pertinent value To remedy this uncomfortable situation, the Entropy measure commonly used in information theory, Is proposed as a tool that can be used by decision-makers to more efficiently select the preferred alternatives. As a result, the method proposed in the paper can be significant in that relatively easy to understand by decision-makers.

  • There have been several tipical methods being used to measure the fuzziness (entropy) of fuzzy sets. Pedrycz is the original motivation of this paper. This paper studies the entropy variation on the fuzzy numbers with arithmetic operations(addition, subtraction, multiplication) and the relationship between entropy and information energy. It is shown that through the arithmetic operations, the entropy of the resultant fuzzy number has the arithmetic relation with the entropy of each original fuzzy number. Moreover, the information energy variation on the fuzzy numbers is also discussed. The results generalize earlier results of Pedrycz [FSS 64(1994) 21-30] and Wang and Chiu [FSS 103(1999) 443-455].

  • This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of using gaze entropy to evaluate an operator's situation awareness in an emergency accident situation of a nuclear power plant. Gaze entropy can be an effective measure for evaluating an operator's situation awareness at a nuclear power plant because it can express gaze movement as a single comprehensive number. In order to determine the relationship between situation awareness and gaze entropy for an emergency accident situation of a nuclear power plant, an experiment was conducted to measure situation awareness and gaze entropy using simulators created for emergency accident situations LOCA, SGTR, SLB, and LOV. The experiment was to judge the accident situation of nuclear power plants presented in the simulator. The results showed that situation awareness and Shannon, dwell time, and Markov entropy had a significant negative correlation, while visual attention entropy (VAE) did not show any significant correlation with situation awareness. The results determined that Shannon entropy, dwell time entropy, and Markov entropy could be used as measures to evaluate situation awareness.

  • Discussion and analysis about relative mutual information has been carried out through fuzzy entropy and similarity measure. Fuzzy relative mutual information measure (FRIM) plays an important part as a measure of information shared between two fuzzy pattern vectors. This FRIM is analyzed and explained through similarity measure between two fuzzy sets. Furthermore, comparison between two measures is also carried out.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the entropic measures could cause the organization to increase the entropy. The organization as an open system has a tendency to input new energy to adapt itself to the change in its surroundings. This intention of inputting energy into organization is based on the second law of thermodynamics, the laws of entropy.Entropy is a measure of disorder, or a measure of progressing towards thermodynamic equilibrium. The entropy of an isolated system increases. Organizations have to open to their environment, have to do something to reduce their entropy. But, this attempt to reduce entropy entails another entropy. This study shows the side effects by giving examples of illegal receipt of worker's compensation insurance. The implications through the cases of illegal receipt of workers' compensation are as follows. Firstly, organizational policy is that inaction in itself may be the best policy, unless we always think the action best. Secondly, public organization should be careful in substituting business management in the private sector such as customer satisfaction(CS) for the value in public sector. Thirdly, the setting the expiration date of organizational policy could be the way to slow down the degree of entropy.

  • The transmission network clustering using a fuzzy entropy function are proposed in this paper. We can define a similarity measure through a fuzzy entropy. All node in the transmission network system has its own values indicating the physical characteristics of that system and the similarity measure in this paper is defined through the system-wide characteristic values at each node. However, to tackle the geometric mis-clustering problem, that is, to avoid the clustering of geometrically distant locations with similar measures, the locational informations are properly considered and incorporated in the proposed similarity measure. In this paper, a new regional clustering measure for the transmission network system is proposed and proved. The proposed measure is verified through IEEE 39 bus system.

  • Design of manufacturing process, in general, facilitates the creation of new process that may potentially harm the workers. Design of safety-guaranteed manufacturing process is, therefore, very important since it determines the ultimate outcomes of manufacturing activities involving safety of workers. This study discusses application of information-theoretic measure (entropy) to safety assessment of manufacturing processes. The idea is based on the general principles of design and their applications. Some examples are given.

  • We consider the relative entropy for two R-CGMY processes, which are CGMY processes with Y equal to 1, to choose an equivalent martingale measure (EMM) when the underlying asset of a derivative follows a R-CGMY process in the financial market. Since the R-CGMY process leads to an incomplete market, we have to use a proper technique to choose an EMM among a variety of EMMs. In this paper, we derive the closed form expression of the relative entropy for R-CGMY processes.
