Experimental Studies on Bouncing and Driving Control of a Robotic Vehicle for Entertainment and Transportation (운송 및 엔터테인먼트용 로봇차량의 바운스 및 주행제어 실험 연구)

  • This paper presents the driving and bouncing control of a robotic vehicle for entertainment and transportation. The robotic vehicle is aimed to carry two passengers with a balancing mechanism by two wheels. To maximize the entertaining purpose, not only the balancing control performance but the bouncing control performance is implemented. Passengers can select different driving modes such as regular driving mode, balancing mode, and bouncing mode. Experimental studies of the balancing control performance as well as the bouncing control performance are conducted to see the feasibility as an entertainment robotic vehicle.

  • Robot systems have applied to manufacturing or industrial field for reducing the need for human presence in dangerous and/or repetitive tasks. However, robot applications are transformed from industrial field to human life in recent tendency Nowadays, final goal of robot is to make a intelligent robot that can understand what human say and learn by itself and have internal emotion. For example Home service robots are able to provice functions such as security, housework, entertainment, education and secretary To provide various functions, home robots need to recognize human`s requirement and environment, and it is indispensable to use artificial intelligence technology for implementation of home robots. In this paper, implemented robot system takes data from several sensors and fuses the data to recognize environment information. Also, it can select a proper behavior for environment using soft computing method. Each behavior is composed with intuitive motion and sound in order to let human realize robot behavior well.

A Study on Implementation of Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot (유비쿼터스 홈 메스클린업 로봇의 구현에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot(UHMR), which has a practical function of the automatic mess-cleanup, is developed. The vacuum-cleaner had made the burden of house chore lighten but the operation labour of a vacuum-cleaner had been so severe. Recently, the cleaning robot was producted to perfectly solve the cleaning labour of a house but it also was not successful because it still had a problem of mess-cleaning, which was the clean-up of big trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. The cleaning robot is to just vacuum dust and small trash but has no function to arrange and take away before the automatic vacuum-cleaning. For this reason, the market for the cleaning robot is not yet built up. So, we need a design method and technological algorithm of new automatic machine to solve the problem of mess-cleanup in house. It needs functions of agile automatic navigation, novel manipulation system for mess-cleanup. The automatic navigation system has to be controlled for the full scanning of living room, to recognize the absolute position and orientation of tile self, the precise tracking of the desired path, and to distinguish the mess object to clean-up from obstacle object to just avoid. The manipulate,, which is not needed in the vacuum-cleaning robot, must have the functions, how to distinguish big trash to clean from mess objects to arrange, how to grasp in according to the form of mess objects, how to move to the destination in according to mess objects and arrange them. We use the RFID system to solve the problems in this paper and propose the reading algorithm of RFID tags installed in indoor objects and environments. Then, it should be an intelligent system so that the mess cleaning task can be autonomously performed in a wide variety of situations and environments. It needs to also has the entertainment functions for the good communication between the human and UHMR. Finally, the good performance of the designed UHMR is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.

  • While numerous On off-line and mobile games have been released in our domestic game market annually, the release of mechanic games in our domestic game market is merely a minority. The marketability of robot-typed mechanic game among our domestic game markets has net been widened. What are the reasons that the robot-typed mechanic game in our domestic games has not been expanded in terms of its users? The purpose of this study is to figure out the reasons why there have been few demands and manufactures of robot-typed mechanic games in domestic market. This study investigate the present conditions of robot-typed mechanic games released domestically and internationally and the reasons for game users' avoiding them through the ranking of sale and popularity. In addition, it analyze three biggest causes such as the absence of planning capability, cultural exclusivism against robots and difficulties in manipulation. Lastly, the study investigate the necessity and importance of robot-typed mechanic games in domestic markets.

Intelligence Robot Contents for Early Childhood Education Settings (유아교육 기관용 지능형 로봇의 '우리반' 콘텐츠 개발)

  • The purpose of this research is to design and develop teacher assistant contents 'My Class' for an intelligent robot iRobiQ, using in early childhood educational setting. After observing daily activities and correspondence role of teachers in educational settings, we selected the robots' target contents as 6 main functions (Attendance, Activity, Gallery, Learning, Role Calling, and Timer). We designed the contents according to the PLU (Player-Learner-User) model which suggests importance of entertainment, education, and enabling features to meet player, learner, and user requirements. We also considered 'emotional' features to satisfy 'companion' requirements. The developed contents in this study was deployed in kindergarten classrooms consisting of five-years-old for 4 weeks to see how they response and use the contents. We found that both teachers and children were likely to show positive responses to the contents. Especially, young children responded to the entertainment and emotional features more actively than to the other features. And they continually explored for something new inside the contents. Finally, this paper discusses what should be considered to develop more useful teacher assistant contents for iRobiQ.

Especially, technologies from multiple disciplines such as information technology (IT), bio technology (BT), and etc. are merged to make novel types of robots. Robots are employed to every place of works such as entertainment, education, service. rescue, medical support, dangerous job, production, etc. The robot in science fictions are now realized so that they become a new species taking human job and more than human.

  • 엔터테인먼트 로봇 관련 특허가 미국과 한국에서 2000년대 초반부터 출원이 증가하였으며, 2006년 이후에 한국과 미국에서의 특허출원 건수가 다른 국가에 비해 높게 나타났다. 일본, 한국, 미국 국적 출원인의 특허 출원이 전체의 97%로 상위 3개 국적 출원인에 의해 기술개발이 진행되었다. 엔터테인먼트 로봇 기술개발 단계를 살펴보면 한국은 발전기, 미국은 성숙기, 일본은 회복기 단계로 분석 되었다.

  • Many application in robotics, telecommunication, automation systems etc require powerful actuator. The powerful actuator have Speeds up to high speed and high output torque efficiencies. To accomplish a powerful actuator, these powerful motor have to be combined with gearheads of the same outer diameter. So, we have developed BLDC motor and planetary type gearheads as powerful actuator. The BLDC motor have advantages that compact structure, high efficiency, high reliability. The Planetary type gearheads have advantages that same-axle structure, high torque transmission, low noise in comparison with spur gearheads. In this study included BLDC motor and planetary type gearheads design, manufacture. This time study peformed for actuator of entertainment robot.

  • IT(Information Technology)분야의 발전과 함께 RT(Robot Technology)분야도 21세기의 유망한 첨단기술로 손꼽히고 있다. 현재의 로봇은 그동안 주류를 이루던 산업용 로봇과는 달리 소프트컴퓨팅, 인간친화 인터페이스, 상호작용기술, 음성인식, 물체인식, 사용자 의도파악 등 갖가지 최첨단 기술들이 요구되는 퍼스널 로봇이 각광을 받고 있으며, 특히 오락용, 교육용 로봇들로 대표되는 엔터테인먼트 로봇(Entertainment Robot)분야가 요즘 국내·외에서 활발히 연구되고 있는 실정이다. 엔터테인먼트 로봇은 정형화된 작업만을 하는 것이 아니라 다양한 환경에서 여러 가지 작업을 해야만 한다. 따라서, 장난감 로봇처럼 인간과의 감정대화가 가능한 지능 시스템을 갖춰야만 한다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 IT분야와 RT분야의 접목으로 시너지 효과를 크게 얻을 수 있는 새로운 기술 개념인 RCP(Robotic Cellular Phone)에 대한 개념을 정의하고, RCP의 기능성 모듈 중 하나인 감성발향 모듈에 대한 기본적인 이론과 실험적 결과를 통하여 로보틱 셀폰의 감성발향 모듈의 우수성을 확인한다.
