This paper presents the control law of Automatic Rudder Trim System(ARTS) for the KTX-1. The proposed ARTS is designed mainly t reduce the pilot's work load for trimming in the various conditiions of engine torque. airspeed, and aircraft configuration. The ARTS partially compensates the transient yawing motion due to change of engine power in turboprop aircraft because of the limitation of the actuation speed of the trim motor. In this paper flight test data are analyzed to understand the phenomena and the dynamics of the reversible rudder flight control system is derived. Finally, the control concept and conrtol law of ARTS are described and the characteristics of the ARTS are analyzed through simulation study.
LPG is considered as one of the most prominent alternative automotive fuels in worldwide. However, conventional mixer system can not meet the emission regulations as the mileage accumulation increased. Recently, much attention is focused on the development of LPG liquid injection fuel systems to increase the engine performance and reduce the exhaust emissions. This study evaluates the LPLi(Liquid Phase LPG injection) engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics using a 3.0 liter LPG engine. The fuel supply system and engine management system were changed from FBM into LPLi to control the precise mixture ratio and optimized spark advance.
Most of engine control systems for helicopter turboshaft engines are equipped with dual sensors. For the system with dual redundancy, analytic methods are used to detect faults based on the system dynamical model. Helicopter engine dynamics are affected by aerodynamic torque induced from the dynamics of the main rotor. In this paper an engine model including the rotor dynamics is constructed for the T700-GE-700 turboshaft engine powering UH-60 helicopter. The singular value decomposition(SVD) method is applied to the developed model in order to detect sensor faults. The SVD method which do not need an additional computation to generate residual uses the characteristics that the system outputs in direction of the left singular vector if an input is applied in direction of the right singular vector. Simulations show that the SVD method works well in detecting and isolating the sensor faults.
Lean combustion and exhaust emission characteristics in a ethanol fueled spark-ignited engine according to ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio were investigated. The test engine was $1591cm^3$ and 10.5 of compression ratio SI engine with 4 cylinders. In addition, lambda sensor system was connected with universal ECU to control the lambda value which is varied from 1.0 to 1.5. The engine performance and lean combustion characteristics such as brake torque, cylinder pressure and rate of heat release were investigated according to ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio. Furthermore, the exhaust emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) were measured by emission analyzers. The results showed that the brake torque, cylinder pressure and the stability of engine operation were increased as ethanol blending ratio is increased. Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) was increased in higher ethanol blending ratio while brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) was decreased in higher ethanol blending ratio. The exhaust emissions were decreased as ethanol blending ratio is increased under overall experimental conditions, however, some specific exhaust emission characteristics were mainly influenced by lambda value and ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio.
This paper describes a hybrid dynamic system(HDS) modeling method and result for the drivertrain of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV) which consists of a gasoline engine, an electric machine, and a continuous variable transmission (CVT) and proposes a drivetrain control system. The control system has an engine controller, a motor controller, a CVT controller and a supervisory controller for the coordination of all system. The controller keep the speed of engine wheel and the output torque within the optimal operation range based on the experimental data. We also developed a MATLAB/SIMULINK program for the performance simulation of PHEV drivetrain model and controllers and compared the simulation result with the experiment result in the recent literatures.
Natural gas is one of the promising alternative fuels because of the abundant deposits and the cleanness of emission gas. CNG has a lot of merits except lower burning speed has a slow disadvantage. One way to overcome the disadvantage is to raise a turbulence intensity. We give various intake for changing turbulence intensity in the cylinder by three kinds of swirl control valve with a way to raise a turbulence intensity. In the present study, a $1.8\ell$ conventional gasoline engine is modified to use a CNG as a fuel instead of gasoline. We try to virify combustion and emission characteristics in each engine parameters. Parameters of experimentation are equivalence ratio, spark timing and intake flow change. The results of this study are as swirl flows. In the case of adding swirl flow, burning speed and torque are increased. But NOx and THC concentration are increased a little respectively.
A three-degree of freedom model of intake system was contrived and investigated in various ways for the purpose of the amelioration of the volumetric efficiency in a low and transient engine speed for a multi cylinder diesel engine. The basic concept beyond this model started from the theory that each degree of freedom model has volumetric efficiency peak as many as its number of the degree of freedom. The volumetric efficiency affects significantly to the engine performance; torque characteristics, fuel economy and emission level. For commercial vehicles and stationary engines, the engine is designed so as to produce their best performance near the normal engine speeds, thus the low engine speed area has a tendency of poor volumetric efficiency. The aim of this study was highlighted on the amelioration of volumetric efficiency of low engine speed area in a multi cylinder diesel engine matched with an additional Helmholtz resonator. By the use of VIS(variable induction system) volumetric efficiency at low engine speed range was significantly improved. The availability of control by combination of VIS and CIS(conventional induction system) will be proposed as a variable induction system that would be an appropriate model for amelioration of the volumetric efficiency at low engine speed.

Controllable pitch propeller(CPP) is usually adopted for easy and effective engine controls of a ship in a port. Unfortunately the torsional vibration may occur by a certain variation of engine torque and the major resonance peak may exist within the maximum continuous rating(MCR) In these cases an additional stress concentration on the oil passages such as longitudinal slots notches and circular holes of an oil distributor shaft(ODS) occurs by the torsional vibration of the CPP shaft. In this paper an analysis for the fatigue limit of an ODS system of the 5S70MC engine in a crude oil carrier is done by applying FEM and empirical formulas. Furthermore the additional stress on the ODS is investigated by analyzing the torsional vibration of the shaft system and a control method in which a tuning damper is adopted is introduced in the case of the additional stress exceeds the fatigue limit. The validity of analysis method is verified by comparing the results acquired by an actual measurement of the vibratory torque for the above ODS
In this study, the objective is determine the optimal design variable of engine mount system using the rubber mount of bush-type which is usually utilized in passive control to minimize vibrations of vehicle body or transmission from engine into body. The engine model adopted in this study is 4-cylinder, 4-stroke gasoline engine support- ed by 4-points. The system is modelled in 10 d.o.f.-rigid body motion of the engine & transmission in 6 d.o.f., elastic motion of vehicle body in 4 d.o.f.(1st torsional, 1st vertical and 1st & 2nd lateral bending vibration mode). To consider the elastic motion of vehicle body, find the eigenvalues and mode shapes of vehicle body by nodal testing and then determine the modal masses and stiffnesses of the body. The design variables of the engine mount system are locations, stiffness and damping coefficients of the rubber mounts(28 design variables). In case of considering the torque-roll axis for the engine, the design variables of the mount system are reduced to 22 design variables. The objective functions in optimal design process are considered by three cases, that is, 1) transmitted forces through engine mounts, 2) acceleration components of generalized coordinates for the vibration of vehicle body, 3) acceleration of specified location(where gear box) of body. three case are analyzed and compared with each other.
A variety of approaches have been investigated for the application of spark-ignition engine knock control. The control method implemented, here as "Fuzzy Control", has the advantage of not requiring the knowledge of a mathematical model of the controlled object and is more robust and flexible than conventional approaches. Knock control in this study is performed using vibration signal which is measured with accelerometer attached to the cylinder block of a 1498cc four-cylinder spark-ignition engine. The experimental results obtained with this method are compared with those obtained with a knock interval controller and with those of a conventional controller. Those results illustrate better performance in torque than knock interval controller and conventional controller.ontroller.
