Of late, the thrust vectoring control, using fluidic co-flow and counter-flow concepts, has been received much attention since it not only improves the maneuverability of propulsive engine but also reduces an additional material load due to the trailing control wings, which in turn reduce the aerodynamic drag. However, the control effects are not understood well since the flow field involves very complicated non: physics such as shock wave/boundary layer interaction, separation and significant unsteadiness. Existing data are not enough to achieve the effectiveness and usefulness of the thrust vectoring control, and systematic work is required for the purpose of practical applications In the present study, computational study has been performed to investigate the effects of the thrust vector control using the fluidic co-and counter-flow concepts. The results obtained show that, for a given pressure ratio, the thrust deflection angle has a maximum value at a certain suction flow rate, which is at less than $5\%$ of the mass flow rate of the primary jet. With a longer collar, the same vector angle is achievable with smaller mass flow rate.

A marine diesel engine should realize optimal operation efficiency while reducing NOx, PM (Particulate Matters) and other emissions. Fuel injection systems that use electronic control can become an effective means of achieving that objective. However. it still needs some accurate and instant information in order to bring its ability into full potential while sailing on the sea. The important information of them are a shaft torque and continuous combustion pressures of all cylinders. The shaft torque and the propeller thrust described in this paper are measured at an intermediate shaft by using a unique principle that one of two electromagnet coils oscillates a vibrating strip which the length changes with force and the other coil picks up the change of the frequency of the vibrating strip. For further reference, the shaft power meter multiplied the torque by the shaft revolution has already had about 750 sets of sales performance. The research presented in this paper started about ten years ago and is concerned with the development of a combustion pressure sensor that uses the same principle. Recently, the pressure sensor which bears continuous operation has been developed after a hard struggle, that is, the system that consists of a shaft horsepower meter, a propeller thrust meter and a combustion pressure sensor has been completed and has been shown to be reliable. This paper describes the configuration of this system, the material of the combustion pressure sensor, the principle of that, and the improving point of the sensor, and, we finally consider the use of this system.

In this study, a configuration design of a CH4/LOx small rocket engine was made and test system was established for the performance evaluation. A coaxial swirl injector was chosen because of its remarkable atomization performance and low combustion instability. Three aspect ratios for the combustion chamber configuration, i.e., 1.5, 1.8, and 2.1 were also set for the comparison of the combustion efficiency. The reliability of the thrust measurement rig was enhanced by pre-and post-calibration process. From the preliminary ground hot-firing test, the measured thrust and specific impulse values were 89.2 N and 181.8 s, respectively, which were 21.6% lower than the ideal values. In addition, the efficiency of characteristic velocity was measured as 84.2%.

We are developing a compact ignition device that can provide a multi-ignition capability for an upper stage methane engine of a two staged small satellite launch vehicle. Firstly, the multi-ignition device is designed and built as an integral part of an additively manufactured mixing head. Secondly, the ignition device requires no separate high-pressure vessels to store ignition propellants as they are branched out from the main feed lines for the mixing head. We performed experiments at various levels, including igniter autonomous tests, thrust chamber ignition and combustion tests on the new compact ignition device which is integrated in the thrust chamber of one-tonf class liquid oxygen/liquid methane engine, and confirmed stable ignition performance.
When an off-road tracked vehicle travels, an engine thrust that is transmitted to the continuous track induces a shearing action on the soil-track interface. Consequently, the relative displacement known as slip displacement takes place on the soil-track interface, which develops an associated soil thrust acting as a traction force. For the loose or soft ground conditions, an excessively large slip displacement can be required for the development of the desired soil thrust which will make the tracked vehicle mobile and therefore the outer surface of the continuous track is generally designed to protrude with grousers. This paper fundamentally studied the effect of grousers on the soil thrust of off-road tracked vehicles. Based on the soil-track interaction theory, a new soil thrust assessment method that properly takes into account the effect of grousers was developed. Also, the soil thrust of off-road tracked vehicles equipped with a number of grousers was evaluated using the developed assessment method. The results showed that grousers increased the soil thrust of the continuous track, enhancing the overall tractive performance of off-road tracked vehicles. These effects were more obvious as the height of grouser increased and the spacing of grouser decreased; thus, it is concluded that the grouser which has smaller shape ratio (span of the grouser to a grouser height) significantly enhances off-road tracked vehicle's performance.

The aircraft engine is to generate thrust for the maneuver of aircraft and to provide the power to the related hydraulic system and electrical system. Since the power provided to the systems is extracted from the high pressure compressor of aircraft engine, the extracted power is called horsepower extraction (HPX). If the HPX provided from the engine is smaller than the HPX required from the related systems, there could be abnormal engine behavior, like engine rollback or stall. Analysis on comparing the required HPX and the engine HPX capability had been performed during the T/A-50 FSD (Full Scale Development) period. The analysis results make the engine schedule changed, and T/A-50 flight test has been performed with the changed engine schedule. The analysis results and changing the engine control schedule were verified to be valid with the flight test results.
To address the problems caused by the strong coupling of an airbreathing hypersonic vehicle's airframe and propulsion to the integrated control system design, an integrated airframe-propulsion model is established, and the coupling characteristics between the aircraft and engine are analyzed. First, the airframe-propulsion integration model is established based on the typical nonlinear longitudinal dynamical model of an air-breathing hypersonic vehicle and the one-dimensional dual-mode scramjet model. Thrust, moment, angle of attack, altitude, and velocity are used as transfer variables between the aircraft model and the engine model. The one-dimensional scramjet model can accurately reflect the working state of the engine and provide data to support the coupling analysis. Second, owing to the static instability of the aircraft model, the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller of the aircraft is designed to ensure attitude stability and height tracking. Finally, the coupling relationship between the aircraft and the engine is revealed through simulation examples. The interaction between vehicle attitude and engine working condition is analyzed, and the influence of vehicle attitude on engine safety is considered. When the engine is in a critical working state, the attitude change of the aircraft will not affect the engine safety without considering coupling, whereas when coupling is considered, the attitude change of the aircraft may cause the engine unstart, which demonstrates the significance of considering coupling characteristics.

For the control of pre-burner combustion pressure, the open angle of the TTR (Throttle for Thrust Regulation) valve was varied from $143^{\circ}$ to $185^{\circ}$ while testing cold flow, ignition, and combustion. The major performance variables of rocket engines and hydraulic performance of the TTR valve regarding the open angle were verified. However, the controllability of pre-burner combustion pressure was not verified due to the limitations of the test. Comprehensive research will be done after addressing these problems.

A series of ignition tests had been conducted for a thrust chamber propelled by Jet A-1 and liquid oxygen with a chamber pressure of 52.5 bara and a thrust of 30 tonf. The chamber ignited by a hypergolic fluid, TEAL, keeps its first constant pressure low at $63\%$ of the design value by $61\%$ of a liquid oxygen mass flow rate and $67\%$ of fuel for 0.25 sec. The operating O/F ratio of the chamber was kept at lower values than that of the design operating condition throughout the whole ignition procedure. Surge of the chamber pressure is below $6\%$ of the design value.

Pulse-mode performance evaluation is made for a set of monopropellant hydrazine thrusters producing $0.95 lb_{f}$ of nominal steady-state thrust at an inlet pressure of 350 psia. With a brief description on the hot-firing test matrix, a typical data obtained from pulse-mode firing is given directly showing the variational behavior of propellant supply pressure, vacuum condition, and thrust, in addition to the thermal response of the thruster. The performance features are successfully compared to the reference criteria of 1-lbf standard monopropellant rocket engine.
