  • Effects of surface defect distribution on flame instability during flame-surface interaction are experimentally investigated. To examine the chemical quenching phenomenon, we prepared thermally grown silicon oxide plates with well-defined defect density. Ion implantation was used to control the number of defects, i.e. oxygen vacancies. In an attempt to preferentially remove the oxygen atoms from silicon dioxide surface, argon ions with low energy level from 3keV to 5keV were irradiated at the incident angle of $60^{\circ}C$. Compositional and structural modification of $SiO_2$ induced by low-energy $Ar^+$ ion irradiation has been characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The analysis shows that as the ion energy increases, the number of structural defect also increases and non-stoichiometric condition of $SiO_x(x{\le}2)$ plates is enhanced. From the quenching distance measurements, we found out that when the surface temperature is under $300^{\circ}C$, the quenching distance decreases on account of reduced heat loss; as the surface temperature increases over $300^{\circ}C$, however, quenching distance increases despite reduced heat loss effect. Such aberrant behavior is caused by heterogeneous chemical reaction between active radicals and surface defect sites. The higher defect density, the larger quenching distance. This results means that chemical quenching is governed by radical adsorption and can be parameterized by the oxygen vacancy density on the surface.

  • In this paper, we analysis the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight for cognitive radio (CR) systems and CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. Threshold is determined in accordance with the constant false alarm rate (CFAR) algorithm for energy detection. The signal of licensed user is OFDM signal and the wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel. From the simulation results, the cooperative spectrum sensing with distance based weight combining (DWC) and equal gain combing (EGC) methods shows higher spectrum sensing performance than single spectrum sensing does. And the detection probability performance with the DWC is higher than that with the EGC.

  • Space Layout has been an issue in the facet of reducing the co2 in that the transportation sector has been to represent almost more than 20% of the total energy consumption for decades. Beside the development of the more efficient transportation systems, an efficient space layout makes it possible to reduce the amount of energy consumption in the transportation sector through allocating the sub-spaces in such an arrangement of minimizing the travel distances. In line with this thinking, this research aims at implementing a simulator which can calculate the vehicle-based travel distance upon a certain space layout. Based on the findings that the vehicle-based travels take place between the two functionally related sub-spaces, this research addresses a method of calculating the vehicle-based travel distance by multiplying the traffic volume of each sub-spaces by the travel distance to the other connected sub-spaces.

  • To utilize the energy of sensor nodes efficiently and extend the network lifetime maximally is one of the primary goals in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Thus, designing an energy-efficient protocol to optimize the determination of cluster heads (CHs) in WSNs has become increasingly important. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient protocol based on an improved Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), which we refer to as Fitness value based Improved GWO (FIGWO). It considers a fitness value to improve the finding of the optimal solution in GWO, which ensures a better distribution of CHs and a more balanced cluster structure. According to the distance to the CHs and the BS, sensor nodes' transmission distance are recalculated to reduce the energy consumption. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can prolong the stability period of the network in comparison to other algorithms, namely by 31.5% in comparison to SEP, and even by 57.8% when compared with LEACH protocol. The results also show that the proposed protocol performs well over the above comparative protocols in terms of energy consumption and network throughput.

  • Since sensor networks consist of sensor nodes with limited energy resources, so efficient energy use of sensor nodes is very important in the design of sensor networks. Sensor nodes consume a lot of energy for data transmission. Clustering technique is used to efficiently use energy in data transmission. Recently, mobile sink techniques have been proposed to reduce the energy load concentrated on the cluster header near a sink node. The CMS(Cluster-based Mobile sink) technique minimizes the generation of control messages by creating a data transmission path while creating clusters, and supports the inter-cluster one-hop transmission. But, there is a case where there is no connectivity between neighbor clusters, it causes a problem of having a long hop data transmission path regardless of local distance. In this paper, we propose a SCBC(Strong connection balancing cluster) to support the path of the minimum number of hops. The proposed scheme minimizes the number of hops in the data transmission path and supports efficient use of energy in the cluster header. This also minimizes a number of hops in data transmission paths even when the sink moves and establishes a new path, and it supports the effect of extending the life cycle of the entire sensor network.

  • Models and experiments for magnetic resonance coupling wireless power transmission (MRC-WPT) topologies such as the chain topology and branch topology are studied in this paper. Coupling mode theory based energy resonance models are built for the two topologies. Complete energy resonance models including input items, loss coefficients, and coupling coefficients are built for the two topologies. The storage and the oscillation model of the resonant energy are built in the time domain. The effect of the excitation item, loss item, and coupling coefficients on MRC systems are provided in detail. By solving the energy oscillation time domain model, distance enhancing models are established for the chain topology, and energy relocating models are established for the branch topology. Under the assumption that there are no couplings between every other coil or between loads, the maximum transmission capacity conditions are found for the chain topology, and energy distribution models are established for the branch topology. A MRC-WPT experiment was carried out for the verification of the above model. The maximum transmission distance enhancement condition for the chain topology, and the energy allocation model for the branch topology were verified by experiments.

  • Laser induced surface hardening of Tool steel(STC5) can be achieved either with or without surface melting. In trans-formation hardening as the surface is heated to a temperature below its melting point and is rapidly cooled solidified microstructures are usually much finer and stronger than those of the base matals. For this reason surface modification of tool steel by YAG laser irradiation has been studied as a function of processing parameters such as power density pulse width defocusing distance and molten depth. The high energy density changes and refines the microstructure of the near surface layer. In the case of beam passes martensite formed in the melt zone exhibited very high vickers hardness values. Molten depth and width depend on defocusing distance and energy of black color painting is more absorptive than other color painting.

  • The influence of source term release parameters on offsite health effects was examined for the YGN 3&4 nuclear power plants. The release parameters considered in this study are release height, heat content, and release time. The effects of core inventory change as a function of fuel burnup was also examined. The health effects by the change of release parameters are early fatalities, cancer fatalities, and early fatality distance. The results showed that early fatalities and early fatality distance decrease as release height increases, although it does not have significant influence on cancer fatalities. The values of both early and late health effects decrease as heat content increases. As release time increases, health consequence shows maximum value in 2 hours of release time and then decreases rapidly. As fuel burnup increases, early fatalities decrease rapidly, while cancer fatalities increase rapidly. Both cases show little variation afterward. Early fatality distance is almost same in all fuel turnup history. The information obtained through this research is very useful in developing strategies for reducing offsite consequences when combined with the influence of weather conditions on offsite risks.

  • In this paper, a new clustering algorithm using the Guaranteed Distance is proposed. In the new algorithm, the appropriate distribution of clusterheads is accomplished by guarantee the stochastic average distance between clusterhead (CH)s. Using this algorithm, the communication cost from clusterheads to their member nodes and the load variance in each clusterheads are reduced. Therefore, the network lifetime can be extended and the fair energy consumption for all nodes can be achieved.

  • As environmental problems become a problem of survival, interest in eco-friendly energy is increasing to improve the environment. So, demand for eco-friendly fuels such as hydrogen, LPG and CNG is increasing. In particular, Korea, which relies on imports of most fuels, is investing in the development of hydrogen energy, which is favorable in terms of high production volume and energy independence. However, As demand grows every year, a variety of accidents occur in various ways, ranging from small leak incidents to massive fires and explosion, thus research needs to be done. So, in this study, compared and analyzed cases of hydrogen, LPG, CNG accidents occurring at domestic and overseas refueling stations. and various programs were used for assessing risk, estimated the flame length due to gas leakage and evaluated the dangerous distance.
