Repeated oral administration of hydrochlorothiazide, a loop diuretic, due to transient high blood levels, may cause adverse effects such as gastric disturbance, nausea, high blood sugar, and hyper lipidemia. Transdermal administration could avoid some of these systemic side effects and gastric disorders. We have developed a matrix using ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), a heat-processible and flexible material, for transdermal delivery of hydrochlorothiazide. Drug solubility was highest at 40% PEG-400 volume fraction. Drug release increased as concentration increased with a linear relationship between the release rate and the square root of loading dose. Increasing temperature increased drug release from the EVA matrix. The activation energy, measured from the slope of log P versus 1000/T, was 11.9 kcal/mol for a 2.5% loading dose from EVA matrix. Diethyl phthalate had the highest plasticizing effects on the release of hydrochlorothiazide. To increase the skin permeation of hydrochlorothiazide from the EVA matrix, enhancers such as the saturated fatty acids, the unsaturated fatty acids, and the non-ionic surfactants were added to the EVA matrix, and skin permeation was evaluated using a modified Keshary-Chien diffusion cell fitted with intact excised rat skin. Polyoxyethylene 23-lauryl ether showed the highest enhancing effects. In conclusion, transdermal delivery of hydrochlorothiazide could be improved from an EVA matrix containing plasticizer and permeation enhancer.
Since the surface diffusion processed $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape has the advantage of having large overall critical current density. it is used for the construction of open type MRI superconducting magnets. However one of the disadvantages of this tape is that $Nb_3Sn$ compound often exhibited multiple cracking due to its intrinsic brittleness when subjected to mechanical loading such as bending and winding during the fabrication process for superconducting coil. This will eventually cause the severe degradation of critical current density. Therefore it is important to understand the microscopic deformation behavior of this kind of superconducting tape under the mechanical loading. In this study, acoustic emission(AE) was used to clarify microscopic deformation behavior at room temperature for $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape which was strengthened and stabilized with copper. For this purpose, special attention was paid to AE characteristics including AE event, energy, and amplitude distribution which were associated with microscopic mechanism of deformation of $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape under tensile load.

The gun-type gas burner adopted in this study is generally composed of eight slits and swirl vanes. Thus, this paper is studied to investigate the effect of slits and swirl vanes on the turbulent flow fields in the horizontal plane of gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate measured by using X-probe from hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flow rate 450 $\ell$/min in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. The axial mean velocity component in the case of burner model with only swirl vanes shows the characteristic that spreads more remarkably toward the radial direction than axial one, it does, however, directly opposite tendency in the case of burner model with only slits. Consequently. both slits and swirl vanes composing of gun-type gas burner play an important role in decrease of the speed near slits and increase of the flow speed in the central part of a burner because the biggest speed spurted from slits encircles rotational flow by swirl vanes and it drives main flow toward the axial direction. Moreover, the turbulent intensities and turbulent kinetic energy of gun-type gas burner are distributed with a fairly bigger size within X/R<0.6410 than burner models which have only slits or swirl vanes because the rotational flow by swirl vanes and the fast jet flow by slits increase flow mixing, diffusion, and mean velocity gradient effectively.

Electrochemical reduction behavior from 2-butyne-1, 4-diol (BID) to 2-butene-1,4-diol (BED) by the use of various cathodes, such as Ti, Zr, Ni, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Hg, Pb and graphite has been studied. It has been found that cathodic polarization curve with metal of IB subgroup such as Cu, Ag and Au consisted of one wave in BID-alkaline solution, whereas it was not formed any wave in BED solution. Therefore, it was found that the cathode which was the most suitable in order to proceed in this reaction was Cu, Ag and Au. At cyclic voltammetry using a silver cathode in BID-alkaline solution, the current of the peak was proportional to square root of the sweep rate of potential and also proportional to concentration of BID. Activation energy was calculated for 3.75 kcal/mole from the plot of log $I_l$ vs. 1/T. Consequently, the reduction current of BID with a silver cathode in alkaline solution was found the diffusion current.
In this work, Fe-Pd alloy films have been electrodeposited on different substrates using an electrolyte containing $[Pd(NH_3)_4]^{2+}$ (0.02 M) and $[Fe-Citrate]^{2+}$ (0.2 M). The influences of substrate and overpotential on chemical composition, nucleation and growth kinetics as well as the electrodeposited films morphology have been investigated using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), current-time transients, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. In all substrates - brass, copper and sputtered fluorine doped tin oxide on glass (FTO/glass) - Fe content of the electrodeposited alloys increases by increasing the overpotential. Also the cathodic current efficiency is low due to high rate of $H_2$ co-reduction. Regarding the chronoamperometry current-time transients, it has been demonstrated that the nucleation mechanism is instantaneous with a typical three dimensional (3D) diffusion-controlled growth in the case of brass and copper substrates; while for FTO, the growth mode changes to 3D progressive. At a constant overpotential, the calculated number of active nucleation sites for metallic substrates is much higher than that of FTO/glass; however by increasing the overpotential, the number of active nucleation sites increases. The SEM micrographs as well as the XRD patterns reveal the formation of Fe-Pd alloy thin films with nanostructure arrangement and ultra-fine grains.

A flame extinction phenomenon is a typical unsteady process in combustion. Flame extinction is characterized by various physical phenomena, such as convection, diffusion, and the production of heat and mass. Flame extinction can be achieved by either increasing the strain rate or curvature, by diluting an inert gas or inhibitor, or by increasing the thermal or radiant energy loss. Though the extinction is an inherently transient process, steady and quasi-steady approaches have been used as useful tools for understanding the flame extinction phenomenon. Recently, unsteady characteristics of flames have been studied by many researchers, and various attempts have been made to understand unsteady flame behavior, by using various extinction processes. Representative parameters for describing flame, such as flame temperature, important species related to reactions, and chemi-luminescence of the flame have been used as criterions of flame extinction. In these works, verification of each parameter and establishing the proper criterions of the extinction has been very important. In this study, a time-dependent flame temperature and an OH radical concentration were measured using optical methods, and the instantaneous change of the flame luminosity was also measured using a high-speed ICCD (HICCD) camera. We compare the unsteady extinction points obtained by three different methods, and we discuss transient characteristics of maximum flame temperature and OH radical distribution near the extinction limit.
Generally, plasma nitriding process has composed with a nitriding layer within glow discharge region occurred by energy exchange. The dissociations of nitrogen molecules are very difficult to make neutral atoms or ionic nitrogen species via glow discharge area. However, the captured electrons in which a double-folded screen with same potential cathode can stimulate and come out some single atoms or activated ionic species. It was showed an important thing that is called "hat is a dominant component in this nitriding process?" in plasma nitriding process and it can take an effective species for without compound layer. During a plasma nitriding process, it was able to estimate with analyzing and identification by optical emission spectroscopy (OES) study. And then we can make comparative studies on the nitrogen transfer with plasma nitriding and ATONA process using plasma diagnosis and metallurgical observation. From these observations, we can understand role of active species of nitrogen, like N, $N^+$, ${N_2}^+$, ${N_2}^*$ and $NH_x$-radical, in bulk plasma of each process. And the same time, during DC plasma nitriding and other processes, the species of FeN atom or any ionic nitride species were not detected by OES analyzing.
The oxidation behavior of Ag-36.8a%Cu-7.4at%Ti alloy brazed on Si3N4 substrate was investigated at 400, 500 and 600$^{\circ}C$ in air. Under this experimental condition Si3N4 and Ag were not oxidized whereas Cu and Ti among the brazing alloy components were oxidizied obeying the parabolic oxidation rate law. The activation energy of oxidation was found to be 80kj/ mol which was smaller than that of pure Cu owing to the presence of oxygen active element of Ti. The outer oxide scale formed from the initial oxidation state was always composed of Cu oxides which were known to be growing by the outward diffusion of Cu ions. As the oxidation progressed the concentration gradient occurred due to the continuous consumption of Cu as Cu oxides and consequently build-up of an Ag-enriched layer below the Cu oxides resulted in the formation of multiple oxide scales composed of Cu oxide (CuO) /Ag-enriched layer/Cu oxide (Cu2O) /Ag-enriched layer. Also the inward diffusing of oxygen through Cu oxide and Ag-enriched layers led to the formation of internal oxides of TiO2.
Water absorption of the major kernels(7 and 10mesh sizes) of naked barley differing in pearling degrees at $25-50^{\circ}C$ was investigated. The time to reach equilibrium moisture content was reduced by half upon removal of over 20% of the outer layer of the kernel. Water absorption rate and diffusion coefficient of naked barley of 5% pearling degree at $40^{\circ}C$ were faster about 1.5 and 2.8 times than those of unpearled one. The activation energy of hydration for unpearled naked barley was 11.5kcal/mole, which was decreased by approximately 0.4kcal/mole upon increasing the pearling degree by 5%.
Univorm epitaxial $CoSi_2$layers have been grown in situ on a (100) Si substrate at temperatures near$ 600^{\circ}C$ by reactive chemical vapor deposition of cyclopentadienyl dicarbonyl cobalt, (Co(η(sup)5-C(sub)5H(sub)5) ($CO_2$). The growth kinetics of an epitaxial $CoSi_2$layer on al Si(100) substrate was investigated at temperatures ranging from 575 to $650^{\circ}C$. In initial deposition stage, plate-like discrete $CoSi_2$spikes were nucleated along the <111> directions in (100) Si substrate with a twinned structure. The discrete $CoSi_2$plates with both {111} and (100) planes grew into an epitaxial layer with a flat interface on (100) Si. For epitaxial $CoSi_2$growth on (100) Si, the activation energy of the parabolic growth was found to be 2.82 eV. The growth rate seems to be controlled by the diffusion of Co through the $CoSi_2$layer.
