A larger energy consumption and concentration of population induced green house gas glowing and heat island effect in the urban space. Roof green system was a effect method to reduce green house gas and heat concentration in the city. Therefore, construction of this system was increasing. Most of lightweight soil used in roof green system was perlite, but this caused dust and skin disease. So it needed to develop another new lightweight soli for roof green system. Meanwhile, a thermoelectric power plant generated bottom ash as a by-product. According to previous research, bottom ash could be used for artificial lightweight soil with 60 wt% of mixing rate. But this study was proceed to develop a artificial lightweight soil using bottom ash with higher mixing rate by 65 wt% and different organic ingredients. First, physical and chemical properties of bottom ash was investigated. Then test according to landscaping design standard was proceeded for various artificial lightweight soil mix types using bottom ash, bark, compost and coco peat. As a result, the artificial lightweight soil with 65% of bottom ash, 30% of bark and 5% of compost was suitable for low and middle range of soil standard.
Emission reduction targets to respond to climate change have been discussed and set locally, nationally and globally. After Korean government set the national target in 2009, 16 metropolitan cities established voluntary emission reduction targets by 2020. This study review and compare historical greenhouse gas emissions, reduction target by 2020 and strategies in 16 metropolitan cities. Most cities chose a consumption-based inventory approach. Some cities set the reduction target excluding land use change and forestry (LUCF) at 30% against business-as-usual by 2020, while others set the absolute reduction target against past year including LUCF. The stringency of reduction target in metropolitan cities was evaluated differently according to the comparative indicators such as the targets against BAU or past year and per capita emission, etc. Key mitigation sectors were different across metropolitan cities. It is suggested that national government share detailed raw data for metropolitan cities' emission inventory with the local government. Using advanced mitigation model and two types' target based on BAU and historical year and integrating local government's climate change plan with its energy plan are also required.
In this paper we proposed a new ocean radiation automatic monitoring system. The proposed system has the following characteristics: First, using NaI + PVT mixed detectors, the response speed is fast and precision analysis is possible. Second, the application of temperature compensation algorithm to scintillator-type sensors does not require additional cooling devices and enables stable operation in the changing ocean environment. Third, since cooling system is not needed, electricity consumption is low, and electricity can be supplied reliably by utilizing solar energy, which can be installed at the observation deck of ocean environment. Fourth, using GPS and wireless communications, accurate location information and real-time data transmission function for measurement areas enables immediate warning response in the event of nuclear accidents such as those involving neighboring countries. The results tested by the authorized testing agency to assess the performance of the proposed system were measured in the range of $5{\mu}Sv/h$ to 15mSv/h, which is the highest level in the world, and the accuracy was determined to be ${\pm}8.1%$, making normal operation below the international standard ${\pm}15%$. The internal environmental grade (waterproof) was achieved, and the rate of variation was measured within 5% at operating temperature of $-20^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ and stability was verified. Since the measured value change rate was measured within 10% after the vibration test, it was confirmed that there will be no change in the measured value due to vibration in the ocean environment caused by waves.
$TiO_2$ as a raw material for producing titanium can be produced by carbon reduction of natural ilmenite ores over 1823 K and acid leaching of the obtained titanium-rich slag. However, the conventional process can cause very high energy consumption and a large amount of leaching residues. In the present study, we proposed the sulfurization of $FeTiO_3$ with $Na_2SO_4$ at temperatures below 1573 K, which can separate Fe in $FeTiO_3$ as the FeS based sulfide phase and Ti as the $TiO_2-Na_2O$ based oxide phase. This study is a fundamental study for sulfurization of $FeTiO_3$ to investigate the influence of reducing atmosphere, reaction temperature and the sulfur/Fe ratio on the separability and distribution behaviors of of Fe, Ti, and Na between the oxide phase and the sulfurized phase. At 1573 K and carbon saturation condition, the Fe can be separated from $FeTiO_3$ as Fe-C-S metal and a part of FeS, and the concentration of Fe in oxide decreased to 4 mass% after sulfurization.

In recent years, researches on various communication methods have been conducted, particularly on OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) methods, as the use of underwater communication increases. While OFDM is, in general, advantageous in that it is resistant to Doppler in the water and it enables a high-speed communication, CDMA is resistant to frequency selective fading in the water and it can reduce energy consumption. Therefore, in this paper, we performed experiments in the shallow water in Western Sea of Korea to analyze the performance of OFDM and CDMA communication systems in the underwater channel environment. The maximum delay spread and Doppler spread were drawn by using the data obtained from the real sea area in order to analyze the underwater channel environment characteristics of the shallow water in Western Sea of Korea. The communication performances of OFDM and CDMA are shown as coded BER (Bit Error Rate) according to the variation of the maximum delay spread and the Doppler spread, respectively. The result of the analysis show that the OFDM method has more resistant performances to the underwater channel environment changes than the CDMA method.

This study aimed to identify milling characteristics depending on the number of a cutting roller's air vent and blowing velocity to remove rice bran by the cutting type milling machine which can minimize the conventional milling process. The level of whiteness was found to be $38{\pm}0.5$ in all the conditions, showing consistent whiteness levels during milling. The rice temperatures turned out to be 15.4 and $14.6^{\circ}C$ which were rather low-level under the conditions of the cutting roller with 3 vents and blowing velocities of 35 and 40 m/s respectively. Cracked rice ratio was 2.13% under the conditions of the cutting roller with 3 vents and a blowing velocity of 35 m/s. Broken rice ratio showed the range of 0.762-0.869%, reflecting a low level. Turbidity after milling was decreased, as blowing velocity became faster. Energy consumption for milled rice production was decreased, as blowing velocity became faster. The optimum milling condition for cutting type milling machine depending on air vent number of cutting roller and blowing velocity was found to be 3 vents and 35 m/s.

According to the IPCC, humans are influencing the climate system. Such changes in the climate system can cause problems in the supply of food ingredients in the agricultural field by changing the existing growing environment. To solve this problem, vertical farms can be a good alternative for a stable supply of food ingredients. Although the vertical smart farm pays close attention to maintaining and managing the growing environment of crops, it is difficult to uniformly implement temperature, humidity, illumination, oxygen, and carbon dioxide concentrations in the building space. As a result of conducting computational fluid dynamics analysis to ensure air uniformity, a remarkable result is that it is advantageous to continuously spray suitable carbon dioxide CO2 concentrations for a long period of time for air uniformity in a vertical smart farm. Through this result, it is possible to efficiently plan a growing environment system optimized for a vertical smart farm. Based on this study, if efficient crops are produced by creating an optimized growing environment for vertical smart farms, it will be able to contribute to the development of the agricultural field.

In platoon driving, several autonomous vehicles communicate to exchange information with each other and drive in a single cluster. The platooning technology has various advantages such as increasing road traffic, reducing energy consumption and pollutant emission by driving in short distance between vehicles. However, the short distance makes it more difficult to cope with an emergency accident, and accordingly, it is difficult to ensure the safety of platoon driving, which must be secured. In particular, the unexpected situation, i.e., variability that may appear during driving can adversely affect the safety of platoon driving. Because such variability is difficult to predict and reproduce, preparing safety guards to prevent risks arising from variability is a challenging work. In this paper, we studied a simulation method to avoid the risk due to the variability that may occur while platoon driving. In order to simulate safe platoon driving, we develop diverse scenarios considering the variability, design and apply safety guards to handle the variability, and extends the detail functions of VENTOS, an open source platooning simulator. Based on the simulation results, we have confirmed that the risks caused form the variability can be removed, and safe platoon driving is possible. We believe that our simulation approach will contribute to research and development to ensure safety in platoon driving.

University campus plans include urban and spatial values and identities that they emphasize. The purpose of this study is to analyze sustainable campus policy, space, and the application to architectural planning, which UBC in Canada pursues independently from a Green Campus Certificate System. Sustainable directions and architectural components are deduced. The results are as follows: 1) the correspondence between the campus plan's goal and architectural implementation is the most important. Thus, the university must build a system for the plan's goal and a strategy to make a sustainable campus. 2) A guideline and system are requested to make many experts in various fields and stakeholders participate in the initial stage through "Design Charrette." 3) A system of virtuous circulation must be built so that feedback can be applied through the real-time comparison and verification of building energy consumption. Another goal of this study is emphasizing the necessity of campus policy and plans based on the "Living Laboratory" concept to make a sustainable city. This study could be meaningful because it supports a basis for triggering the establishment of goals for a sustainable plan and implementation in Korean universities.
Supplement of high-protein food plays an important role in improving the symptoms of malnutrition and the immune capacity of the body, but the association of high-protein diet and gut microbiota remained unaddressed. Here, we systematically analyzed the internal organs and gut microbiota in C57(WT) or PD-1H-depleted (KO) mice (T cells were activated) fed with pupae or feed for six weeks. We observed that the body weight gain in the mice fed with pupae increased less significantly than that of the feed group, while the villi and small intestine lengths in the pupa group were reduced compared with that of mice given feed. However, the average body weight of the KO mice increased compared with that of the WT mice fed with pupae or feed. Pupae increased the concentration of blood glucose in WT, but not in KO mice. Moreover, in the feed group, there was no difference in the weight of the internal organs between the WT and KO mice, but in the pupae-fed group, liver weight was decreased and spleen weight was increased compared with that of KO mice. The amounts/plural/amounts of Melainabacteria, Chloroflexi, and Armatimonadetes were specifically upregulated by pupae, and this upregulation was weakened or eliminated by PD-1H depletion. Some bacteria with high abundance in the feed-fed KO mice, such as Deferribacteres, Melainabacteria, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Spirochaetes and Verrucomicrobia, were decreased in pupae-fed KO mice, and Proteobacteria and Deinococcus were specifically enriched in pupae-fed KO mice. Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Akkermansia were associated with weight loss in the pupae-fed group while Lachnospiraceae and Anaerobiospirillum were related glucose metabolism and energy consumption. Based on high-throughput sequencing, we discovered that some gut bacteria specifically regulated the metabolism of a high-protein diet, and PD-1H deficiency improved life quality and sustained blood glucose. Moreover, PD-1H responses to high-protein diet through modulating the type and quantity of gut bacteria. These findings provide evidence about the association among gut microbiota, T cell activation (for PD-1H depletion) and high-protein diet metabolism, have important theoretical significance for nutrition and health research.
