  • The effect of microstructure on mechanical behavior for Ti-6Al-4V alloy was studied. Two different kinds of specimens are prepared using heat treatments (rolled plate, $1050^{\circ}C)$ in order to Produce different microstructures. Various kinds of mechanical tests such as hardness, tensile, fatigue and fretting fatigue tests are performed for evaluation of mechanical properties with the changes of microstructures. Through these tests, the following conclusions are observed: 1) Microstructures are observed as equiaxed and $widmanst{\ddot{a}}ten$ microstructures respectively. 2) Impact absorbed energy is superior for the equiaxed microstructure, and the hardness and tensile strength are superior for the $widmanst{\ddot{a}}ten$ microstructure. 3) The fatigue endurance of $widmanst{\ddot{a}}ten$ microstritcture shows higher value than that of the equiaxed microstructure. 4) The fatigue endurance in fretting condition was reduced about $50{\%}$ from that of the non-fretting condition.

  • This experimental work was carried out to investigate the fatigue bending strength on various shapes and sizes of notches of the domestically manufactured steel plate. The notch types tested were a circular hole, U-and V-notches. The S-N diagram for different notch shapes were discussed in relation to plan bending strength and stress concentration factor of notches .The results of the experiments are summarized as follows : (1) The difference between stress concentration factor and notch factor was greater as the radium of notch root became smaller, and these values approached to an identical value as the radium of notch root increased. (2) It was shown that the plane bending fatigue limit of bar without notch for the hotrolled steel having the tensile strength of 33.1kg/$mm^2$was 17.0kg/$mm^2$. (3) U-and V-notch had a greater effect of stress concentration factor on the endurance limit, but O-hole showed the same effect only for $\o\pm2mm$. (4) For the same radius of notch root, U-notch showed a lower value of fatigue limit compared to V-notch and O-hole.

  • This paper was studied on the behavior, crack formation and propagation of slip bands on low carbon steel which was heat-treated in three conditions in order to change metallic structure. The specimens were tested by rotating bending fatigue testing machine and also observed the variations of grains by microscope. From the test results it was clear that fatigue endurance limit and life of low carbon steel were more increased in contrast with the case that the grain size of specimen was more decreased. Slip bands developed at oil-quenched specimen and furnace-cooled specimen. Formed cracks in the first one or two grains below the surface were approximately "planar" type, there after they followed "wavy" type. It was also found that cracks at 30% higher stress than fatigue limit were usually developed inter-granular, and cracks at 12% higher stress than fatigue limit were propagated meandering path, partly trans- and partly inter-grandular.

  • This study produced a design curve and fatigue limit for a variation in volume ratio and reduction ratio of TiNi/Al composites. In many cases, stress-life curve does not indicate fatigue limit, so it was presented by probabilistic-stress-life curve. Goodman diagram was used to analyze the fatigue strength of materials with a finite life determined by repeated load and the fatigue strength of endurance limit with an infinite life. The fatigue experiment was conducted using the scenk-type plane bending specimen in same shape. The result of the fatigue test, which had been conducted under consistent stress amplitude, was examined. (i) The optimal condition for TiNi/Al in accordance with hot pressing (ii) Impacts of fatigue limit caused by a variation in reduction ratio and volume ratio of TiNi/Al composites (iii) Probability distribution for fatigue limit of TiNi/Al2024 and TiNi/Al6061.

  • Peel-tension fatigue experiments were conducted for investigating on fatigue strength of mechanical press joints of SPCC steel sheet used in the field of the automobile industry. In addition, finite element method analysis on the peel-tension specimen was conducted using HyperMesh and ABAQUS softwares. The cold rolled mild steel was used to join the T-shaped peel-tension specimen with a button diameter of 5.4 mm and a punch diameter of 8.3 mm. The fatigue limit load amplitude was found to be 112.4 N at the number of cycles 106, indicating that the ratio of fatigue limit load to static peel-tension strength was about 8%. This value suggests that the mechanical press joint is highly vulnerable to peel-tension load rather than to tensile-shear load, considering that the ratio of fatigue limit load to static tensile-shear strength was about 43%. Fatigue failure mode was found to be interface-failure mode.

  • The strength evaluation of the most weakest junction part is required for the safety design of all structures. Most of all. in order to enhance the reliability and safety of the welding part. whose use is the highest, it is very important to establish the efficient structure manufacturing technology by studying and investigating the evaluation of fatigue strength in various environments. This study analyzed the relations of da/dN, and th according to the welding methods of SMAW, FCAW, and SAW. In the stage II. the value of stress intensity factor range was the highest in SMAW welding method of stress ration R=0.1, and appeared under the sequence of FCAW and SAW and as the completion section of stress intensity factor was low, threshold stress intensity factor was lowly formed in da/dN - The fatigue life of each welding method is sensitively worked in high stress ratio. judging from the fact that the width of life reduction increases in the high stress ratio zone compared to the width of life reduction in the low stress ratio zone. In the fatigue limit of welding methods before corrosion. the welding of SMAW and FCAW shows the same fatigue limit compared to Base metal, and SAW holds the lowest fatigue limit value.

  • This report introduces a novel technique that allows a safe and predictable canal negotiation, creation of a glide path and canal preparation with reciprocating nickeltitanium or stainless steel engine-driven instruments in canals where the use of rotary and the newly developed reciprocating instruments is contraindicated. In this novel technique, the instruments are used in reciprocating motion with very small angles. Hand files are not used regardless of the complexity of the canal anatomy. It also allows achieving predictable results in canal negotiation and glide path creation in challenging canals without the risk of instrument fracture.

  • The standard of the allowed stress in designing components such as shafts used in machinery and aircraft should be determined. It is very important to estimate fatigue strength of a component analytically, because service stress of the components is usually under the level of its fatigue limit. Improving the fatigue strength of each component in machinery is essential for high performance, lightness, and endurance. Surface treatment of components is widely used for these purpose. In this research, the fatigue behaviors of SCM415 steel and carbonitried SCM415 steel are examined. In the analysis of the fatigue behaviors of the carbonitrided SCM 415 steel, we propose a modified fatigue strength evaluation model and modified formulae.

  • The estimation of fatigue limit for the component with complicated shape is difficult than of standard fatigue specimen, due to complex test equipment. So, we substitute maximum principle stress from FEM results for fatigue limit diagram made by standard fatigue specimen. Then we can estimate endurance safety of component with high trust. The static stress analysis, the nonlinear contact stress analysis and the model analysis for turbine blade is performed by ANSYS ver. 5.6. the comparison of maximum static stress around hole with maximum contact stress between pun and hole can make the cause of fracture for turbine blade clear. The difference of fatigue limit between fatigue test by standard specimen and in-service mechanical components is due to surface roughness and machining condition etc. In in-service mechanical components, Goodman diagram has to consider surface roughness for failure analysis. To find fracture mechanism of torison-mounted blade in nuclear plant. This study performs the static stress, the nonlinear contact stress and the modal analysis on torison-mounted blade with finite element method and makes the estimation for safety of turbine blade.

  • This study aims to optimize the measurement conditions of handmade Hanji paper to reduce the time required for measurement while meeting folding endurance standards, for various basis weights. Thirteen types were selected, including 12 types of Hanji with grammages of 17 g/m2, 30 g/m2, and 45 g/m2, and one type of 75 g/m2 copy paper, and 24 sheets were prepared in the laid and chain directions. Subsequently, folding endurance experiments at different load (14.72 N, 9.81 N, 4.91 N) and specimen width conditions (15 mm, 10 mm, 5 mm) were performed, using a 4-MIT folding endurance tester. The results showed that, for specimen widths of 15 mm and 10 mm under a load of 4.91 N, the folding endurance falls within the reference range (10~10000 times). In particular, reduced folding endurance range and measurement time were observed at a width of 10 mm under a load of 4.91 N. Moreover, the endurance trend lines based on the average values of load and specimen width ranges enabled the prediction of the folding endurance within those ranges, according to the decreasing slope. Furthermore, for a specimen width of 15 mm under a load of 4.91 N, the folding endurance in the comparison group (35 to 17723 times) significantly exceeds the upper limit of the reference range (10~10000 times). Therefore, the measurement conditions of 4.91 N with a specimen width of 10 mm are proposed.
