  • Recent requirements for the fast and accurate motion in industrial robot manipulator need more advanced control techniques. To satisfy the requirements, importance of the force control is being continuously increased and the expensive force sensor is usually installed to obtain the contact force information in practice. This information is indispensable for the force control of maintaining the desired contact force. However the sensor cost is too high to be used in industrial applications. In this paper, it is proposed to estimate the contact force occurred between the end-effector of 2 DOF robots and environment. The contact force estimation system is developed based on the static and dynamic models of 2 DOF robot manipulators, where the contact force is described with respect to the link torque. The Extended Kalman Filter is designed and its performance is verified in simulations.

  • Loading/unloading at sea is necessitated as larger container ships are being used. It is also unavoidable to load/unload at sea during military operations. An experimental cable array robot system, which can be used for loading/unloading at sea, consisting of four cables operated by four motors is designed and built. Even though it has simple structure, it has a large pay-load/robot-weight ratio, flexibility and wide workspace and can be easily built at low cost. In order to plan and control the paths of end-effector, two interpolation methods are introduced and compared. Since the robot is entirely based on cable tension, an analysis of tension is also presented for monitoring and planning purpose.

  • This paper presents a robot trajectory generation method based on the dual curvature theory of ruled surfaces. Robot trajectory can be represented as a ruled surface generated by the TCP(Tool Center Point) and my unit vector among the tool frame. Dual curvature theory of ruled surfaces provides the robot control algorithm with the motion property parameters. With the differential properties of the ruled surface, the linear and angular motion properties of the robot end effector can be utilized in the robot trajectory planning.

  • A lot of robot trajectory tracking methods are proposed to enhance the tracking error, but irregular tracking errors are always accompanied and very hard to reduce it. Up to now, these irregular tracking errors are reduced by introducing more complicated control algorithms. But, it is intuitively obvious to reduce only the big errors selectively in the irregular ones for the better performance instead of using more complicated control algorithms. By the characteristics of the robot, big tracking errors of the end-effector are generated mostly due to the fast moving of joint. So, in this paper, we introduce a new method which reduce the big tracking errors by clippings the joint velocity with the constraint of given path. Using this method, desired trajectory tracking is obtained within the far reduced error bound. Also, this method is successfully applied to generate the path-constrained error reducing trajectories for 2-axis SCARA type robot.

  • in order to perform a elaborate task like as assembly, manufacturing and so forth of components, tracking control on the trajectory of power coming in contact with a target as well as tracking control on the movement course trajectory of end-effector is indispensable. In this paper, to bring under robust and accurate control of auto-equipment systems which disturbance, parameter alteration of system, uncertainty and so forth exist, neural network controller called dynamic neural processor(DNP) is designed. Also, the learning architecture to compute inverse kinematic coordinates transformations in the manipulator of auto-equipment system is developed and the example that DNP can be used is explained. The architecture and learning algorithm of the proposed dynamic neural network, the DNP, are described and computer simulation are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed learning method using the DNP.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new technique for automatic construction of steel frames in high-rise buildings. Basically, we combine advanced robotic technologies to building construction techniques. Four main topics will be developed such as: 1) Planning and synthesis of automatic construction system, 2) Development of construction factory system with climbing oil-pressured robot, 3) Core techniques for automatic assembly for steel frames, and 4) Intelligent resource management system. We expect that this new technique will increase the construction efficiency and will alleviate the manpower shortage problem in the aging society.

  • The problem of establishing the servo system to reach the desired location keeping all features in the field of view and following a straight line is considered. In addition, robustness of camera calibration parameters is considered in this paper. The proposed approach is based on switching from position-based visual servoing (PBVS) to image-based visual servoing (IBVS) and allows the camera path to follow a straight line. To achieve the objective, a pose estimation method is required; the camera's target pose is estimated from the obtained images without the knowledge of the object. A switched control law moves the camera equipped to a robot end-effector near the desired location following a straight line in Cartesian space and then positions it to the desired pose with robustness to camera calibration error. Finally simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed visual servoing technique.

  • The inverse kinematics problem is to find a set of joint variable values that will place the end effector of a robot manipulator into a given pose. Pieper has shown that a sufficient condition for a manipulator to have a closed form solution is that three adjacent joint axes intersects, hence the six axes robot with spherical wrist allows closed form solution. But many industrial robots have a non-spherical wrist to provide a stronger wrist configuration so that they can handle heavy payloads. Also, the use of a non-spherical wrist can result in a cheap and simple wrist arrangement than when all three axes intersect at a common point. In these cases, closed form solutions cannot be found. Therefore numerical technique must be used to solve the inverse kinematics equations. This paper proposes a new algorithm that can be used for finding inverse kinematics solution of the six axes robot with non-spherical wrist. Computer simulations are provided to prove the usefulness of our method.
