Objective: The objective of this research is to study preceding literature on safety culture surveying tools and indicators used in aviation organizations to help the further understanding of aviation safety culture by presenting Korea-Safety Culture Survey Indicator (K-SCSI) as a relevant case. Background: The aviation field puts a great deal of effort in preventive safety management through the application of Safety Management System (SMS), which was co-developed by international aviation organizations such as ICAO and FAA. To successfully operate safety management system, safety culture factors such as the organization member's level of consciousness, attitude and faith regarding safety must be put together. However, the aviation field currently lacks programs to promote safety culture and the exact understanding of some safety culture concepts. Method: This research inquired into the definition of safety culture in the aviation field and the surveying tools used to measure it. It then described the development and application process of the Korea-Safety Culture Survey Indicator (K-SCSI) mainly focusing on case studies. Results: In this research are presented safety culture promoting programs that can be applied to subordinate indicators of K-SCSI such as organization commitment, management involvement, rationality of reward system, employee empowerment and reporting system. Conclusion: For a mature safety culture to settle successfully, it is essential that safety culture survey indicators are developed and applied in a way that fits the organization's features. Also, behavior measuring indicators are required to develop a more objective indicator and thus must be standardized. Application: Cases that deal with the development and application of safety culture measuring tools within the aviation field can be studied and applied in other domains to spread safety culture.
This article focuses on the use of case management in the Self-support program. Case management is a service modality which provides integrated services for people with multiple needs in the community. The goal to accomplish self-sufficiency of working participants in Self-Support Programs is positively affected by the efforts to reduce high social risks they are exposed. It is recommended that the agencies running Self-support programs apply case management to increase the quality of lives as well as the effectiveness of exiting statuses of conditional welfare recipients. Several service considerations of case management are recommended for the change in the structure and functioning of the Self-Support Program: Integrated view and contextualized thinking, empowerment-oriented approach, and a development of the community support system through networking. Types of case management and practice roles of the case manager applicable to the Self-Support Program are also recommended. Structural aspects of an organization, inter-organizational linkages and contextual factors need to be considered to improve problematic conditions that have not enough resources and appropriate authorities in providing case management functions.
Purpose: This study aimed to construct and test a predictive model that explains and predicts the quality of life in older men living alone. Methods: A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 334 older adult men living along aged 65 years or over living in Jeollanam-do provinces. The endogenous variables were depression, self-rated health, instrumental activity of daily life, health promotion behaviors, the number of social participation activities and quality of life. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. Results: The final model with 14 of the 8 analysed paths showed a good fit to the empirical data: χ2 = 173.26(p < .001, df = 53), normed χ2 = 3.27, GFI = .92, NFI = .90, CFI = .93, TLI = .89, RMSEA = .08 and SRMR = .06. Activities had direct effect on quality of life of older men living alone and social support had both direct and indirect effects. Meanwhile, function and socioeconomic status showed only indirect effects. The variables included in the eight significant paths explained 83.7% of variance in the prediction model. Conclusion: Instrumental activities of daily living and social support effect directly on quality of life in the older men living alone. Findings suggest that health care providers including community nurses need to provide social support as well as empowerment programs of instrumental activities of daily living and health promotion for improving quality of life of the older men living alone.

Purpose: This phenomenological study is aimed at illuminating the lived experiences of newly-qualified nurses who working in general hospitals in C province. Method: The data was collected through unstructured, in-depth interviews with 10 new nurses from April to June 2001, and analysed by Colazzi' methodology. Results: Thematic content analysis identified 6 central themes in this experience-difficulties m making interpersonal relationship, negative feelings, fatigue and unskilled work performance, self-reflection, a sense of accomplishment, identity formation as a nurse. Also, this themes were constructed into 6 constructs explaining new nurses' experience. The results may contribute to a better understanding of what new nurses experienced and how their negative conflicts could be managed. Conclusion: New nurses need to get more education and supportive empowerment regarding diverse conflicts during training period. Educational programs like a preceptorship or individual counselling should be developed and adopted to all clinical settings.
Purpose: This methodological study was conducted to develop and test a cultural competence scale for nursing students. Methods: Based on the five constructs of cultural competency identified in the conceptual analysis of Suh, 76 items for the tool were derived initially. These items were reduced to 58 items after content validity tests (two times) by 6 multicultural experts. Data collected from 526 nursing students were utilized to test the validity and reliability of the preliminary tool. Item analysis, factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Cronbach's alpha were used for the analysis. Results: Twenty-seven items were selected for the final scale, and categorized into 5 factors explaining 62.1% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha was .91 and the reliability of the subscales ranged from .76 to .91. Criterion validity between the developed tool and empathy (r=.26, p <.001) was significant. Conclusion: The results show that this scale can provide scientific and empirical data when evaluating the effectiveness of school curriculums or multicultural empowerment programs regarding cultural competence of nursing students.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to identify and describe the experiences of health care during pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum period for Vietnamese marriage immigrants. Methods: The participants were 15 Vietnamese married immigrant women who became pregnant and gave birth within the last five years. Data were collected by in-depth interview with Vietnamese women. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method of phenomenology. Results: Six theme clusters were extracted as follows: 'being left with no other option in loneliness and longing filled in a limited life', 'continued trials and errors amidst frustration and fear', 'silently following orders despite the quality of medical services that change with each medical care provider', 'compromise by selecting amidst confusion between the Korean way and the way at home', 'depending on family, who is the communication channel, but becoming disappointed', and 'finding the reason for existence and struggling by herself to become a mother amidst doubled confusion'. Conclusion: A program for effective empowerment of Vietnamese immigrant women should be developed. In addition multicultural family centered programs should be developed with emphasis on acceptance of women's culture, respect for her culture, and supports. Medical staffs and nurses should also improve culturally sensitive competence in order to provide care for immigrant women.
Family education service for healthy families has increased steadily over the past ten years since the Healthy Family Act was enacted. The Purpose of this study aims to investigate the current state of family education professionals such as family life educators and healthy family specialists, and also suggest a management plan for them. The data used was collected from literature regarding family life educators and healthy family specialists, reports and home pages of Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Korean Institute for Healthy Family, Healthy Family Support Center in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, Korean Association of Family Relations, etc. The major suggestions are as follows: 1) empowerment of family education professionals, 2) development of the workplace for family education professionals, 3) development and promotion of various education programs for families, 4) improvement of the capability of family education professionals response to a low fertility-ageing society, 5) collaborative networking between family life educators and healthy family specialists. This study contributes to provide insights on how to train and manage family education professionals.
The purposes of this research were to analyse the female college students' appraisals and demands about actual conditions of job-seeking and to propose the developmental alternatives from the perspectives of gender equality. The data were obtained through 510 female students living in Gwangju. The major findings were as follows: 1) Women's needs of job-seeking were very intensive but their preparation level was relatively low. Colleges' support system and organization utility were uneffective because their programs were not specified for women. Women generally recognized that social improvement for gender equality in employment system were very important and more practical methods and contents were demanded in education for job-seeking. 2) Women's grade and major were significant variables in the differences of job preparation, consciousness of job-seeking, social support and appraisals. Therefore, college supporting systems must consider students' characteristics. 3) The job-seeking mechanisms must be changed to more effective systems for the achievement of gender equality. Also community members, colleges and students should make collaborate endeavors for the women empowerment.
Purpose: The study was conducted to explore the parenting experience of mothers who have defected from North Korean. Methods: Nineteen mothers who defected from North Korean were recruited in Hanawon and data were collected through face-to-face interviews. Grounded theory methodology developed by Strauss and Corbin (1998) was adapted for theoretical sampling and analysis. Interviews were recorded with consent and transcribed verbatim. Results: The core category was discovered to be 'pursuing positive parenting'. Phenomenon was identified as 'acting out of frustration' and this series of processes was categorized as having four stages: 'harsh reality', 'moving forward', seeking transition', and 'internalization'. Conclusion: The results indicate that their parenting experiences were in a transition process and, thus, it is critical to develop positive parenting intervention programs as a way to promote the empowerment of these mothers in parenting to help them support themselves and their children.

In this study, the technical level and competence of Chungbuk region manufactures were diagnosed and implications for efficiency improvement of cooperation with local universities were derived. The results are as follow. First, in Chungbuk area, 75% of the skilled workers are medium-skilled and high skilled workers. And the life cycle of production products was found to have entered middle/old age. In addition, the industries were overestimating its technology capabilities, including marketing and sales technology, and management technology. Therefore, local universities should develop differentiated program such as technology transfer and commercialization support so that companies can nurture new industries and it is necessary to improve understanding of reality and future prediction ability through various education and seminars. Second, universities in Chungbuk province have failed to meet the practical demands of industry by providing general educational programs such as lifelong education curriculum, rather than the practical training required by industry. First of all, industries needed the practical training programs such as human resource empowerment, technical education and workers' retraining for local industry development. In addition, industries were expected to provide relevant knowledge and infrastructure such as testing, analysis, participation in technology development such as commissioning and joint research. Therefore, universities should prepare customized Industry-Academia Cooperation Programs through industry demand survey in planning. Also, it is necessary to establish various connection points with industry to ensure that industry-academia cooperation will continue and achieve results. Third, the technology of the industries in Chungbuk province was found to be very unrelated to the next generation regional strategic industries. This is not shared vision between industry and local government, Industry-Academia Cooperation Programs will serve as a platform to organize various community entities. Universities will be able to play a key role in between industries and local governments.
