  • The single regression method was used to analyze the correlationship between the compression index with mechanical properties for reclaimed marine clays in the Gyeonggi coast of Korea. As results of performing regression analysis for 62 samples about reclaimed marine clays in the Gyeonggi coast of Korea, linear regression lines between compression index and natural water content, void ratio in situ, and liquid limit respectively were obtained. The changed properties of reclaimed soil due to disturbance during dredging and reclaiming could be investigated by comparing with the existing empirical correlation equations for the original ground where dredging was performed.

  • Anchors find their use in providing tie-back resistance for submerged footings, transmission towers, tunnels and ocean structures. Laboratory model teats were performed for the short-term net ultimate uplift capacity of a circular anchors with respect to various embedment depths and moisture content in saturated bentonite. The tests have been conducted with the anchor at two different moisture contents. Based an the model test results, empirical relationships between the net load, rate of strain, and time have been developed. Test results are as follows. 1) In creep tests for load versus ultimate uplift capacity, the displacement of plate anchors rapidly increases during the primary stage but thereafter becomes constant over a period of time. 2) Displacement increased with the increase of the sustain load and embedded ratio in soil. 3) If the load is less than or equal to 75% of the short-term ultimate uplift capacity, a complete pullout does not occur due to creep.

  • This paper reports the characteristics of sparkover discharge in flowing air ranging from 0[m/s] to 30 [m/s] under the needle-needle gap. Flowing air duct of this investigation is circular tube. The important results obtained form this study are as follows. 1. the ratio of sparkover voltage to the Reynolds number decreases with increasing the Reynolds number. 2. The duration time of sparkover(t) decreases with increasing the Reynolds number. 3. the empirical equation obtained form this experiment is [ %]${\frac{Vs}{Re}}$ = A + $B{\varepsilon}^{C.Re}$ where A = 10.2 b = 125 c = -4.66 ${\times}$ $10^{-5}$

  • Quality variations in mixture products such as medicine, food, engineering chemicals, and alloy materials can be caused by their own sub-components. For instance, discharging characteristics of a lithium-ion rechargeable battery depend upon the mixture ratio of ethylene, dimethyle, and ethyle-methyle, all of which consists an electrolyte solution in the battery. Thus it is important to determine tolerances of mixture components in maintaining the product quality at a desired level. This paper proposes a simple but efficient approach to a mixture tolerancing method with multi-response variables. We use a response surface method for empirical modelling between mixture components. An illustrative example of the proposed method is given.

  • This paper investigates the determinants of the firm's decision to carry out innovative activities in terms of the resource-based view(RBV) in strategic management. Two types of resources are distinguished: tangible(financial autonomy, firm size, capital intensity) and intangible(human resource, entrepreneurship, and commercial resource). R&D intensity and patent statistics are used as proxies for innovative activity. Specific hypotheses about their effect on the probability of a firm carrying out innovative activities are derived and tested on a sample of 337 listed firms in Korean manufacturing industry for the year 1999, using the logistic regression model. Empirical findings suggest that firm size and human resource are the main determinants of firm's internal innovative activities. The results show that the hypotheses concerning financial autonomy, debt ratio, capital intensity, entrepreneurship, and commercial resource are rejected.

  • The ultrasonic pulse velocity test has a strong potential to be developed into a very useful and relatively inexpensive in-place test for assuring the quality of concrete placed in structure. The main problem in realizing this potential is that the relationship between compressive strength ad ultrasonic pulse velocity is uncertain and concrete is an inherently variable material. The objective of this study is to improve the reliability of in-place concrete strength predictions by ultrasonic pulse velocity method. Experimental cement content, s/a rate, and curing condition of concrete. Accuracy of the prediction expressed in empirical formula are examined by multiple regression analysis and linear regression analysis and practical equation for estimation the concrete strength are proposed. Multiple regression model uses water-cement ratio cement content s/a rate, and pulse velocity as dependent variables and the compressive strength as an independent variable. Also linear regression model is used to only pulse velocity as dependent variables. Comparing the results of the analysis the proposed equation expressed highest reliability than other previous proposed equations.

  • This work is concerned with comparison of the recently developed disparity measures for the partial association model in three dimensional categorical data. Data are generated by using simulation on each term in the log-linear model equation based on the partial association model, which is a proposed method in this paper. This alternative Monte Carlo methods are explored to study the behavior of disparity measures such as the power divergence statistic I(λ), the Pearson chi-square statistic X$^2$, the likelihood ratio statistic G$^2$, the blended weight chi-square statistic BWCS(λ), the blended weight Hellinger distance statistic BWHD(λ), and the negative exponential disparity statistic NED(λ) for moderate sample sizes. We find that the power divergence statistic I(2/3) and the blended weight Hellinger distance family BWHD(1/9) are the best tests with respect to size and power.

  • A numerical study is carried out to assess the dynamic response and damage level of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) panels subjected to explosive loads by using finite element LS-DYNA software. The precision of the numerical models is validated with the previous experimental test. The calibrated models are used to conduct a series of parametric studies to evaluate the effects of panel wall dimensions, concrete strength, and steel reinforcement ratio on the blast-resistant capacity of the panel under various magnitudes of blast load. The results are used to develop pressure-impulse (P-I) diagrams corresponding to the damage levels defined according to UFC-3-340-02 manual. Empirical equations are proposed to easily construct the P-I diagrams of RC panels that can be efficiently used to assess its safety level against blast loads.

  • A study on the modeling of the methane Chemical Looping Reforming system was carried out. It is aimed to predict the temperature and concentration behavior of the product through modeling of oxygen carrier fixed bed reactors composed of multiple stacks. In order to design the reaction system, first of all, the flow rate of the hydrogen to be produced was calculated. The flow rate ratio of the oxidation/reduction reactor was calculated considering the heat of reaction between adjacent reactors. Finally, in this paper, kinetic model including empirical coefficients was suggested.
