Purpose: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Korean version of Yale Food Addiction Scale for Children (YFAS-C). Methods: Participants were 419 young adolescent students (11~15 years old). The content validity of the expert group was calculated as the content validity index (CVI) after the translation and reverse translation process of the 25 items of the YFAS-C. The multitrait-multimethod matrix (MTMM) method was used to verify the construct validity; the generalized linear model (GLM) was used to evaluate the concurrent and incremental validity. Reliability was calculated as Kuder-Richardson-20 (KR-20) and Spearman-Brown coefficients. Results: The CVI of the 25 items was greater than the item-level CVI .80 and the scale-level CVI .90. The Korean version of YFAS-C had verified convergent validity in emotional eating and external eating and discriminant validity in restrained eating. In addition, it had verified concurrent validity in emotional eating and external eating. Finally the incremental validity of the Korean version of YFAS-C was statistically significant on BMI. Reliability was KR-20 ${\alpha}=.69$ and the Spearman-Brown coefficient was .64. Conclusion: The Korean version of YFAS-C is a valid and reliable scale for measuring the severity of food addiction; it can be a useful scale for preventing obesity by predicting food addiction early.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the wellness of call center employees. Methods: From December 2018 to October 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 155 workers recruited from the call centers in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. The questionnaires were used to measure the following scales: Korean occupational stress scale, emotional labor scale, work-life balance scale and wellness scale. Using the SPSS 26.0 program, the descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: The mean score of the wellness level of call center employees was 3.05 out of a maximum of 5.00. More wellness level of call center employees was associated with gender, psychiatric diagnosis, and call characteristics. A multiple regression analysis indicated that the total scores on the wellness scale were predicted by call characteristics, occupational stress and work-life balance, with an explanatory power of 42.2%. Conclusion: Study findings show that it is necessary to promote wellness in call center workers with differentiated strategies according to call characteristics, occupational stress and work-life balance. This implies that it is necessary to understand the call characteristics and patterns of workers and to provide an innovative wellness program tailored to individual characteristics for an effective management of the emotional labor and occupational stress.
Recently, the rate of cesarean section in Korea has been increasing. The results of several previous studies in foreign countries on the emotional responses of cesarean section mothers showed that they might experience difficulties in the mother- infant interaction due to fatigue, lack of early mother - infant interaction, disappointments, anger, feelings of loss of control, and other factors. Human behavior is said to be determined by one's self concept, and self concept is influenced by both internal and external environmental factors. A scale to measure the self concept of cesarean section mothers was needed in order to identify those who might have difficulties in the mother- infant interactions in future. The purposes of this study were to develop a measuring scale, and to test its reliability and validity. The process of this study was as follows. A structured interview was done with 50 cesarean section and vaginal delivery mothers to find their state of emotional reaction after giving birth to their babies. Based on the results of the interviews, a 50 items Likert scale was developed. The self concept of 268 cesarean section and vaginal delivery mothers who were hospitalized at six hospital in seoul were measured, during the period between Feb. 1 and April 30. Reviewing the discriminating power of each item by means of crosstabulation, ten items were selected for the final scale. The reliability and validity of this ten item scale were tested by Cronbach's alpha and t-test, using spss pc+package. The results of this study and recommendation are as follows. 1. The ten selected items were as follows. I feel pains in my breast. (-) I have a good appetite now. (+) I feel pains in my flank. (-) I feel fine now. (+) My body seems to have returned to its prepregnant state. (+) Thinking of the delivery process, I feel sorry. (-) I want to hold my baby in my arms. (+) I want to keep my own life, even if I became a mother. (-) I want to delegate the care of the baby to my mother / mother in law. (-) I think baby is my alter ego. (+) 2. The reliability of this scale was tested by Cronbach's alpha, and the coefficient of this scale was .8066. 3. The construct validity of this scale was tested by means of known group methods. The value of self concept for cesarean section mother was significantly lower than for vaginal delivery mothers(t=-5.51, df=266, p=0.007). 4. The criterion validity of this scale was tested indirectly. Though this scale could discriminate the differences in the self concept between cesarean section and vaginal delivery mothers, the five items on the personal self concept scale didn's show any differences between cesarean section and vaginal delivery mothers. Therefore, the study indicates that those who shows lower values in the personal self concept measurement, that is, lower than 12.03 points, could be regaled as “risk mothers” 5. Further studies using this scale to clarify the influencing factors on negative self concept are strongly recommended.
This study aimed to assess the roll of various abusive factors on suicide thoughts. In particular, the effects of negligence, physical and emotional abuse, as the subordinate variables of abuse, were examined on suicide ideation. In addition, the mediation effects of shame-proneness and friendships were also investigated. To achieve these specific objectives, subordinate dimensions of abuse such as negligence, physical abuse and emotional abuse were measured for 277 male and 275 female students from Seoul middle schools using a measurement tool. Specifically, experiences of being abused and neglected, the level of suicide thoughts using scale for suicidal ideation (SSI), the level of shame-proneness and friendships using personal feelings questionnaire-2(PFQ-2), and schoolmate relationships were measured using a questionnaire. Analysis of collected data revealed that while suicide thoughts showed significant positive relationship with abuse and shame-proneness, there was a significant negative relationship between suicide thoughts and friendships. In particular, negligence, physical abuse and emotional abuse had significant effects on suicide ideation, while emotional abuse had the greatest effect on suicide ideation. Shame-proneness and friendships partially mediated abuse and suicide thoughts. The findings of this study have contributed to understanding of factors related to suicide thoughts. In particular, the mediation effects of shame-proneness and friendships have been highlighted.
The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese parents' reaction to their children's negative emotions and how these reactions relate to their children's understanding of emotions. Forty-two Chinese children (aged 4) and their parents participated in this study. Coping with Children's Negative Emotion Scale was given to parents to assess their reaction to their children's negative emotions. Children's emotional understanding was assessed using the modified emotional false-belief task and mixed emotion task. The results showed that Chinese parents gave supportive reactions more than non-supportive reactions to their children, and no difference in sex was found. The percentages of correct answers to false-belief task and mixed emotion task were low with no gender difference in both tasks. When age and sex of children were controlled, only fathers' supportive reactions to children's negative emotions significantly explained the variances in the level of children's understanding of emotions in both tasks. That is, children whose fathers showed greater supportive reactions to their negative emotions performed better at both tasks. It was concluded that fathers' supportive reactions to their children's negative emotions are very influential for emotional understanding among 4-year-old children in China.
A model is proposed for the role of emotional intensity of a web site, and the moderating influence of product involvement, in the Integrative Framework of persuasion (Meyers-Levy and Malvaiya 1999). The model also appropriately operationalizes the constructs emotional intensity of a web site and product involvement The three routes to persuasion, Central, Peripheral, and Experiential correspond to high, moderate, and low involvement (Meyers-Levy and Malaviya 1999). The involvement construct is measured from message recipients using the Personal Product Inventory (Pill, which was developed to capture the concept of product involvement (Zaichkowsky 1985). The conceptualization of the Personal Product Inventory is a contextrree measure that also has robust psychometric properties when applied to advertisements (Zaichkowsky 1994). The propositions highlight the expected importance of emotional intensity of a web site. The moderating influence of product involvement is also proposed. Specifically, what this work proposes is that the emotional intensity of a product site has a larger impact on attitude change under low product involvement, as opposed to moderate product involvement. Support for this reasoning can be found in the persuasion literature (Petty et al 1986). The Petty et al (1986) frame work is a dual process descriptive and predictive frame work in the area of altitude formation and change. Recently, Myers Levy and Malaviya (1999) have proposed a tri-process framework. This is in tum based on the dual process model of Petty et al. (1986). The study outlined in this paper aims to deepen the Meyers Levy and Malaviya (1999) and frame work. The propositions outlined in the model are empirically tested using a repeated measures experimental design. The emotional intensity is measured using a scale that is based on experts judgments. Using a paired comparison t-test two sites are determined to be of high and low emotional intensity. The model is tested using a repeated measures experimental design. The first independent variable Emotional Intensity of the site is manipulated. The Second independent variable, Personal Product Inventory is measured. While, the dependent variable, product altitude change will also be measured. Utilizing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) the data is analyzed using SPSS. The results suggest that besides the rational content of messages their emotional content can also influence attitude change. Specifically, it is proposed that the manipulation of emotional intensity of a product Web site has a greater impact on product altitudes under high and low product involvement conditions, rather than moderate product involvement. However, the results for product involvement as a continuous variable has a p value of 0.09. Further, the results for three levels of product involvement were far from significant. For two levels of product involvement also, the results were insignificant, the p value approached 0.20. This evidence indicates that it is premature to conclude that there are three routes to persuasion. A caveat, however, must be added, in that the manipulations may not have been strong enough to test the proposed hypotheses. Further, undoubtedly, there is unequivocal evidence the emotional intensity of a product Web site, as measured here, has a direct impact on product attitudes.
Recently, interest in emotional technology has escalated and its application has extended to many fields, from both an industrial (product) and service (culture, tourism, medical, education, advertising) perspective. Moreover, culture has become a fundamental aspect of modern industry, playing key roles in: gaming, exhibitions, performances, sports, tourism, design, edutainment, as well as various content distribution industries. The prospect of applying emotional technology for cultural content industries makes up for more than half of the 'plan-manufacture-distribution-marketing' process, and thereby also serves as driving force for the growth of a nation. The primary objective of the following research is analyze successful cases from the past through utilization of emotional technology, and to speculate on efficient directions for future research into developing emotional contents. To achieve this, some of the key terms have been defined and elaborated for the sake of clarity. The terms are as follows: emotion, emotion engineering, science of emotion, emotional technology, and emotional contents. Furthermore, studies were conducted based on the six different fields surrounding CT R&D to observe how projects involving emotional technology have succeeded both on a national and global scale. Based on this analysis, this research aims to develop personalized 'Concierge' service-providing contents, contents designed to maximize performance ability of humans, and contents that could be controlled simply via emotion to effectively spread the culture of Korea by focussing on 'fusion' content development. The following research data may hopefully serve as a basic reference to industries navigating towards emotional content development.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the constructs of emotion suppression and help understanding on the multidimensional nature of emotion suppression by classifying constructs for suppression according to the KMW model. Also, this study examined the gender differences of emotion suppression. For this purpose, 657 adult male and female subjects were evaluated for attitude toward emotions, and difficulty in emotional regulation, as well as depression, state anger and daily stress scale. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis on the scales related to the emotion suppression factors, the emotion suppression factors corresponding to each stage of the KMW model were found to be 'distraction against emotional information, 'difficulty in understanding and interpretation of emotions', 'emotion control beliefs', 'vulnerability on emotional expression beliefs'. Next, the study participants were classified by performing a cluster analysis based on each emotion suppression factor. As a result, four clusters were extracted and named 'emotional control belief cluster', 'emotional expression cluster', 'emotional attention failure cluster', and 'general emotional suppression cluster'. As a result of examining the average difference of male depression, depression, state anger, and daily stress for each group, significant differences were found in all dependent variables. As a result of examining whether there is a difference in the frequency of emotional suppression clusters according to gender, the frequency of emotional suppression clusters was high in men, and the ratio of emotional expression clusters was high in women. Finally, it was analyzed whether there was a gender difference in the effect of the emotional suppression cluster on psychosocial adaptation, and the implications were discussed based on the results of this study.
This study was conducted to provide the basic data for improving the working environment and welfare level of the security guard by identifying the primary effects of stress response on fatigue with emotional labor and identifying the adjustment effects with coping strategy. The data were collected from 214 security personnel using questionnaire and the statistical tests of correlation, heavy return analysis and hierarchical return analysis using the SPSS 18.0 statistics program were used to reach the conclusion that: First, it has been shown that the emotional labor of a security guard affects fatigue Second, the effects of emotional labor on fatigue of a security guard have been shown to have the effect of coping strategy. Based on the above studies, it was concluded that the emotional labor of a security guard was affected by fatigue and could be controlled by a stress coping strategy. Therefore, it is believed that there is a need to seek an autonomous corporate culture based on the organization's performance by changing the management system for employees at the organizational level so that security guards can use an active way of coping.
This study determines whether the perception of the frequency of experiencing positive, negative, and surprise emotions changes according to the level of cognitive well-being. Furthermore, we determined practical means to analyze which emotions can be managed in daily life as an effective means of improving overall life satisfaction by identifying representative specific emotions that strongly predict the level of cognitive well-being. To this end, the between-subjects factorial design is adopted to measure the frequency of emotional experiences according to the level of cognitive well-being in 438 university undergraduate students. For cognitive well-being, the life satisfaction scale (SWLS) was used, and the PANAS-X scale was used to measure emotional frequency. As a result, first, the group with high cognitive well-being displays a higher frequency of positive and surprise emotional experiences and a lower frequency of negative emotional experiences than the group with low cognitive well-being. Second, the results confirm that representative emotions affecting cognitive well-being included 8 positive emotions, 7 negative emotions, and 1 surprise emotion. Among them, positive emotions include "happy" and "confident," negative emotions include "dissatisfied with self" and "disgusted with self," and surprise emotions include words such as "amazed." Therefore, we can conclude that the representative emotions are those with the greatest influence on cognitive well-being. Therefore, increasing the frequency of specific emotions (e.g., happy, confident, and surprise) and decreasing the frequency of others (e.g., dissatisfied with self and disgusted with self) could be effective in improving cognitive well-being than unconditionally examining emotions experienced in daily life.
