  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Korean Singing Voice Handicap Index (K-SVHI) was suitable for singers in other genres than vocal music to assess their vocal problems subjectively. Twenty six college students majoring in vocal music and twenty six students majoring in applied music were included in the study. They were divided into G0 and G1 in voice quality using the GRBAS scale during the tasks of singing. K-SVHI was divided into three sub-areas (Physical, Functional, and Emotional). In the singing task, both groups showed no significant difference between K-SVHI scores by G scale. In the reading task, the vocal music group had significantly higher K-SVHI in G0 than in G1 in K-SVHIs by G scale, while the applied vocal music group had significantly higher K-SVHI in G1 than in G0. Also, the two groups were not significantly different in G0, G1 in the singing task while the vocal music group showed higher K-SVHI than the applied vocal music group in G0 in the reading task. In addition, the vocal music group had higher K-SVHI than the applied vocal music group in G1 in both tasks. As comparing by groups in three sub-areas of K-SVHI, significant differences were found in the Emotional and Functional area. Those results showed that singers felt their voice problems differently by musical genres, which means that K-SVHI may not be a proper tool for evaluating voice handicap of singers in diverse voice music genres.

  • In this paper, we propose a music recommendation method considering users' tags by collaborative tagging in a social music site. Since collaborative tagging allows a user to add keywords chosen by himself to web resources, it provides users' preference about the web resources concretely. In particular, emotional tags which represent human's emotion contain users' musical preference more directly than factual tags which represent facts such as musical genre and artists. Therefore, to classify the tags into the emotional tags and the factual tags and to assign weighted values to the emotional tags, a tag ontology called UniTag is developed. After preprocessing the tags, the weighted tags are used to create user profiles, and the music recommendation algorithm is executed based on the profiles. To evaluate the proposed method, a conventional playcount-based recommendation, an unweighted tag-based recommendation, and an weighted tag-based recommendation are executed. Our experimental results show that the weighted tag-based recommendation outperforms other two approaches in terms of precision.

  • This study investigated the relationships between ADHD trait, emotional music use, relationship initiation, and expectation for future life in early adolescence, and to verify path model to predict the expectation for future life. The participants were 347 male and female middle school students, their average of ages was 13.35 (SD=.91). The ADHD trait was measured with self-report scale, emotional music use and relationship initiation were measured with sub-scales of Use of Music Inventory and Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire, and expectation for future life was measured with modified items of Satisfaction with Life Scale. Results revealed that ADHD trait was negatively correlated with relationship initiation and expectation for future life, whereas emotional music use was positively correlated with relationship initiation and expectation for future life. And, relationship initiation positively correlated with expectation for future life. The alternative model was adopted that included a direct path from ADHD trait to expectation for future life in the proposed model, rather than the proposed model in which ADHD trait and emotional music use affects expectation for future life through relationship initiation. The findings of this study should provide useful information for further studies and for professionals who try to promote the expectation for future life in early adolescence.

Because sound professionals define the criterion of music to categorize differently each other, those classification is not easy to come up clear result. When a new genre is appeared, there is onerousness to renew the criterion of music to categorize. Therefore, music is classified by emotional adjectives, not genre. We classified music by light and shade in precedent study.
