Analyzing XR(eXtended Reality) Trends in South Korea: Opportunities and Challenges

  • This study used text mining, a big data analysis technique, to explore XR trends in South Korea. For this research, I utilized a big data platform called BigKinds. I collected data focusing on the keyword 'XR', spanning approximately 14 years from 2010 to 2024. The gathered data underwent a cleansing process and was analyzed in three ways: keyword trend analysis, relational analysis, and word cloud. The analysis identified the emergence and most active discussion periods of XR, with XR devices and manufacturers emerging as key keywords.

  • The emergence of different and disparate materials together with the convergence of both the 'old' and 'emerging' technologies is paving the way for integration of heterogeneous technologies that are likely to extend the limitations of silicon technology beyond the roadmap envisaged for complementary metal-oxide semiconductor. Formulation of new information processing concepts based on novel aspects of nano-scale based materials is the catalyst for new nanoarchitectures driven by a different perspective in realization of novel logic devices. The memory technology has been the pace setter for silicon scaling and thus far has pave the way for new architectures. This paper provides an overview of the inevitability of heterogeneous integration of technologies that are in their infancy through initiatives of material physicists, computational chemists, and bioengineers and explores the options in the spectrum of novel non-volatile memory technologies considered as forerunner of new logic devices.

  • Flexible devices have been developed from their rigid, heavy origins to become bendable, stretchable and portable. Such a paper displays, e-skin, textile electronics are emerging research areas and became a mainstream of overall industry. Thin film transistors, diodes and sensors built on plastic sheets, textile and other unconventional substrates have a potential applications in wearable displays, biomedical devices and electronic system. In this review, we describe current trends in technologies for flexible/wearable electronics.

High Performance of Printed CMOS Type Thin Film Transistor

  • Printed electronics is an emerging technology to realize various microelectronic devices via a cost-effective method. Here we demonstrated a high performance of p-channel and n-channel top-gate/bottom contact polymer field-effect transistors (FETs), and applications to elementary organic complementary inverter and ring oscillator circuits by inkjet processing. We could obtained high field-effect mobility more than $0.4\;cm^2/Vs$ for both of p-channel and n-channel FETs, and successfully measured inkjet-printed polymer inverters. The performance of devices highly depends on the selection of dielectrics, printing condition and device architecture. Optimized CMOS ring oscillators with p-type and n-type polymer transistors showed as high as 50 kHz operation frequency. This research was financially supported by development of next generation RFID technology for item level applications (2008-F052-01) funded by the ministry of knowledge economy (MKE).

A Comparative Study on the Adoption of Mobile Devices

  • The global market for mobile phone business is already matured. Accordingly, the repurchasing issue for the mobile phone is being weighted drastically by the marketers. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationships among seven crucial factors, and also examines the differences between Korean and Indonesian markets concerning the relationships of these key success factors. This research classifies these two markets as a matured market and an emerging market respectively. The structural model is tested with the data from each of the sub-samples. The analysis of the multi-group structural equation model (MSEM) showed that compared to Korean, Indonesian had more emphasized on extra-functions for the mobile phone as well as giving more influence on satisfaction from brand image. Due to the different market situation and users, the lessons to which product features must be more emphasized could be obtained for the product managers in the industry.

  • Due to rapid development of If, difference types of services and platforms are being developed increasingly. With the emerging mobile technologies, Geographic Information System (GIS) is also getting more attention recently. But it is known to have some limitations in being served in different types of mobile devices and platforms. While information services are limited by data format and data exchange between platforms, the extensible Markup Language (XML) is getting focused as the most promising technology as the solution to such problem. Geographic Markup Language (GML) is based on XML technology and is being frequently mentioned recently as the solution to service problem on different mobile devices as well as the internet. In this study, we suggested the framework to use the GML in order to transfer and represent geographical data through the on-line or wireless platforms. We compared different application types which are currently used with GML and proposed to improve GIS services using the GML in geographical data transfer and description.

  • Printed electronics are emerging technology to realize various microelectronic devices via a cost-effective method. Here we introduce high performance inkjet printed polymer field-effect transistors and application to complementary integrated circuits with p-type and n-type conjugated polymers. The performance of devices highly depends on the selection of dielectrics, printing condition and device architecture. The device optimization and performances of various integrated circuits, e.g., complementary inverters and ring oscillators will be mainly discussed in this talk.

  • 밀리미터파 회로 제작에 필수적인 능동소자인 고 속 Transistor기술은 반도체 설계 및 공정기술의 발 전으로 급격히 발달하고 있다. 주로 GaAs계나 InP 계 III-V 화합물 반도체를 이용한 고주파 transistor 는 FET기반의 MODFET과 BJT기반의 HBT가 밀 리미터파 대역에서 응용된다. 전통적인 III-V족 반 도체 이외에 SiGe와 GaN 소자 기술 역시 급속한 발전을 이루고 있다. 본 논문에서는 밀리미터파 transistor 기술에 대한 기본적인 내용과 응용 예를 소개한다.

  • This article reviews technical trend in research of stretchable electrodes for wearable devices, bio-integrated devices, and stretchable electronics. Stretchable electronics is new emerging class of electronics following flexible electronics. One of the most difficult challenges in the development of stretchable electronic is to realize high performance stretchable electrodes with a low resistivity and high strain failure and stretchability against severe strain of the substrate. For this reason, there are many reports on the promising stretchable electrodes including CNT, graphene, Ag nanowire, and composite materials. We outline the recent research for stretchable substrate and stretchable electrode materials to realize highly stretchable electrodes.

  • As the super-aged society approaches rapidly, the number of people suffering from post-stroke and other neurological disorders is significantly increasing, where prompt and intensive rehabilitation is essential for such people to resume their physical activities in normal daily lives. To overcome the inherent limitations of manual physical therapy, various types of exoskeleton robots are being employed. However, the need of the hour is softer, thinner, lighter, and even stretchable systems for precisely monitoring the motion of each joint without restricting the patients' movements in rehabilitation tasks. In this paper, we discuss the technological trends and current status of emerging stretchable rehabilitation systems, in which sensors, interconnects, and signal-processing circuits are monolithically integrated within a single stretchable substrate attachable to the skin. Such skin-like stretchable rehabilitation devices are expected to provide much more convenient, user-friendly, and motivating rehabilitation to patients with neurological impairments.
