  • In this paper, an optimal group control for elevator systems is proposed with timed Petri net based approach. Elevator system is modeled by time Petri nets and hall call response times are estimated with moment generating functions (MGFs) methos, which is applicable to real traffic patterns. Two assignment policies are proposed to satisfy the demands of passengers(i.e. hall/car calls) and to handle exceptional situations. In addition, optimal algorithms are implementated to minimize cost functions. THe performances of the elevator system employing the proposed algorithms are compared with each others in ways of several performance measures by a computer simulation.

  • This paper addresses an elevator position control scheme in unified control system. Conventional systems have employed independent micro-processors for speed, car, and group control respectively and the car controller generates a velocity command by combining the time-based and distance-based velocity pattern. In this scheme, it is inevitable that an elevator creeps in the vicinity of target floor, or stops abruptly. The proposed control system employs only one high-performance micro-processor, which can execute the car and group control as well as the speed control. It simply generates the desired position trajectory based on time and on-line corrects a velocity pattern to make the position error be zero. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

  • In this paper, the development of a new group controller for high-speed elevators is described utilizing the approach of adaptive dual fuzzy logic. Some goals of the control are to minimize the waiting time, mean-waiting time and long-waiting time in a building. When a new hall call is generated, all adaptive dual fuzzy controller evaluates the traffic patterns and changes the membership function of a fuzzy rule base appropriately. A control algorithm is essential to control the cooperation of multiple elevators in a group and the most critical control function in the group controller is an effective and proper hall call assignment of the elevators. The group elevator system utilizing adaptive dual fuzzy control clearly performs more effectively than previous group controllers.

  • In this paper, the gearless traction machine drive system using a permanent-maget motor for high-speed elevators is addressed. This application of permanent-magnet motor to the elevator traction machine enables several improvements including higher efficiency, better ride comfort, smaller size and weight, and so on. PWM boost converter is also adopted so that DC-link voltage regulation, hi-directional power flow, and controllable power factor with reduced input current harmonics are possible. To increase reliability and performance, the control board, which can include the car and group controller as well as PWM converter and inverter controller, is designed based on TMS320VC33 DSP The simulator system for high-speed elevators has been developed so that the drive system of high-speed elevator can be tested without my limitation on ride distance and the load condition. Some experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the developed system.

  • When multiple elevators are installed in the building, control systems for each of the elevators, reducing energy loss by elimination of unnecessary movements and assigning appropriate elevators to passengers upon request are called the elevator group control system. However, the group control system of three or more elevators for the Disabled is being limited by the domestic laws and standards because it can not predict which unit will be called. In this paper, as an improvement plan, an integrated group control system of elevators for the general passengers and the disabled is proposed; its efficiency that decreases 16.9 % of waiting time is verified with comparison of the traditional separate group control systems. The proposed Integrated Group Control System does not violate the domestic laws and standards. Also its good performance is shown through computer simulations.

  • Handling Passenger Traffic is the main challenge for designing an elevator group-control algorithm. Advanced control systems such as Hyundai's Destination Selection System(DSS) lets passengers select the destination by pressing on a selecting screen, and the systems have shown great efficiency. However, the algorithm cannot be applied to the general elevator control system due to the expensive cost of the technology. Often many elevator systems use Nearest Car(NC) algorithms based on the SCAN algorithm, which results in time efficiency problems. In this paper, we designed an elevator group-control algorithm for specific buildings that have approximate timetable data for most of the passengers in the building. In that way, it is possible to predict the destination and the location of passenger calls. The algorithm consists of two parts; the waiting function and the assignment function. They evaluate elevators' actions with respect to the calls and the overall situation. 10 different timetables are created in reference to a real timetable following midday traffic and interfloor traffic. The specific coefficients in the function are set by going through the genetic algorithm process that represents the best algorithm. As result, the average waiting time has shortened by a noticeable amount and the efficiency was close to the known DSS result. Finally, we analyzed the algorithm by evaluating the meaning of each coefficient result from the genetic algorithm.

  • This study describes the depth and straight motion control performance depending on control surface combinations of a supercavitating underwater vehicle. When an underwater vehicle experiences supercavitation, friction resistance can be minimized, thus achieving the effect of super-high-speed driving. Six degrees of freedom modeling of the underwater vehicle are performed and the guidance and control loops are designed with not only a cavitator and an elevator, but also a rudder and a differential elevator to improve the stability of the roll and yaw axis. The control performance based on the combination of control surfaces is analyzed by the root-mean-square error for keeping depth and straight motion.

  • For the purpose of fault detection of the primary control surface, real-time estimation of the longitudinal stability and control derivatives of the DURUMI-II using the flight data is considered in this paper. The DURUM-II, a research UAV developed by KARI, is designed to have split control surfaces for the redundancy and to guarantee safety during the fault mode flight test. For fault mode analysis, the right elevator was deliberately fixed to the specified deflection condition. This study also mentions how to implement the multi-step control input efficiently, and how to switch between the normal mode and the fault mode during the flight test. As a realtime parameter estimation technique, Fourier transform regression method was used and the estimated data was compared with the results of the analytical method and the other available method. The aerodynamic derivatives estimated from the normal mode flight data and the fault mode data are compared and the possibility to detect the elevator fault by monitoring the control derivative estimated in real time by the computer onboard was discussed.
