  • This study was performed to explore the adolescents\` conception and practice of Hyo(filial piety). Fifteen teams of 500 adolescents were allowed to discuss about Hyo for two hours and the team leaders presented what they had discussed. The subjects were 330 elementary school students, 130 middle school students, and 40 high school students. The findings from the discussion and presentation were as follows: First, the adolescents\` conceptions of Hyo were different in the stages of schools. Elementary school students thought that they should do Hyo because they got lots of mercy from parents. Middle and high school students both thought that Hyo came from mutual(parent-children) understanding, but they showed somewhat different view about what disturbed the mutual understanding. Middle school students pointed the deficiency of parents'self-disclosure as a disturbing factor while high school students pointed the deficiency of adolescents'understanding of their parents. Second, the behavioral items that the subjects suggested as Hyo were analysed by the 12 Subvirtues of Adolescent's Hyo which was classified by Chung et al.(1996a). Adolescents could not propose any behavioral items for Thanks, Ancestor Worship, and Ecological Equilibrium, and some items for Advising Parents and Thrift. A lot of items were suggested for Moral Training, Supporting (Parents), Consorting (Parents), Respecting (Parents), Establishing Oneself, and Following Parents.

  • This study was conducted to assess the perception of nutritional education by students in elementary school and their parents in terms of the degree of satisfaction with school foodservices. The survey was conducted on 322 parents and 322 students using a questionnaire. Most of the students and parents were satisfied with the school foodservices, the most satisfactory component of school foodservice was the "balanced nutrition intake". The students and parents acquired nutritional information from the "school letter" and "Mass media". They trusted professional dietitians, the school and the nutritional information acquired from accredited mass media. In regards to the type of nutritional education, 28.9% of parents preferred "clinical nutrition information on disease" and 26.9% of parents preferred "nutrition information of food". In contrast, 33.7% of the students preferred the "clinical nutrition information on disease" and 25.4% of the students preferred "right eating habit (unbalanced eating, skipping meal)". The top three reasons for wanting to provide offspring with nutritional information was "right eating habit" (48.9%), "correction of unbalanced diet" (19.8%) and "healthy physical strength" (12.1%). The dietitians need professionalism to deliver accurate information and knowledge relating to the subjects that the users demand and the development of teaching media should be conducted to effectively deliver this knowledge.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an educational app that informs parents of elementary students with correct information on pesticide residue based on their awareness and information needs on pesticide residue. A survey was conducted from 918 parents living in 8 different districts of Korea. The results of the survey indicated that a majority of parents felt uncomfortable with pesticide residue and wanted to have the proper information regarding it. Based on the above results, an app named 'Perfect Conquest of Pesticide Residue' consisting of 5 main menus of 'Pesticide residue, Is it safe?', 'Safe management of pesticide residue', 'Perfect removal of pesticide residue on fruits and vegetables through washing', 'Shopping without anxiety', 'Playground' and their own sub-menus was developed. When the app was applied to 30 parents using smart phones, a majority of them were satisfied with the contents of detailed information and fun activities. Therefore, this app could be utilized as an effective educational tool for the parents of elementary students by allowing them to have proper awareness on pesticide residue. Furthermore, more apps could be developed on other food risk factors to promote safe dietary life.

Participants were 2844 (1524 boys, 1320 girls) children who grades were 4th, 5th, 6th in KYPS (Korea Youth Panel Survey). Data mining decision tree model was performed with sex, appearance, delinquency, family income, attachment to parents, parental monitoring, attachment to teachers, academic achievement, peer delinquency, and attachments to peer. The results revealed that : (1) For 4th graders, academic achievement, attachment to parents, and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (2) For 5th graders, attachment to parents, academic achievement, parental monitoring and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (3) For 6th graders, attachment to parents, appearance, parental monitoring and delinquency were significant predictors for life satisfaction. Protective factors and risk factors were changed according to interactions between significant independent variables. These results suggest that children's diverse conditions should be considered individually in programs for children's life satisfaction.

And the parents with bachelor's degree scored significantly higher than parents with at least a high school diploma in subdomains of ecological knowledge, knowledge on environmental problems & issue, environmental skill and environmental behavior. (2) the most influential media on parents' environmental literacy is TV, then newspaper, internet and book follow. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate parents' perceptions and attitudes regarding a screening test for and subsequent management of students' emotional and behavioral problems. Methods: A descriptive research design was used, and included disproportional stratified and cluster random sampling. The sample comprised 223 parents of elementary, middle, and high school students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-squared test, and ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Overall, parents responded that they knew of the goals, types, and tools of screening tests for students' emotional and behavioral problems. In total, 64.6% of parents reported having information for the screening test in advance. Only 13.5%(n=30) of students had emotional and behavioral problems in the last year. Among these students, 56.7%(n=17) were referred to mental health facilities but only 29.4%(n=5) of them received ongoing management from these facilities. Conclusion: These findings suggest that parents should receive information about the screening test for and subsequent management of students' emotional and behavioral problems. Health professionals need to build strategies to provide ongoing management for students who have emotional and behavioral problems.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this research is to find out the relations among children‘s perceived competences, expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, and parents’ social support, which influence their self image. Methods: The samples to achieve the purpose of this research are composed of 294 students in G elementary school, OO city, Kyounggido, the number of male students in the fifth year being 71, female 77, and male students in the sixth year being 73, female 73. After having excluded the data of 9 students among them due to their insincere reply, this research analyzed the data of 285 students by using SPSS WIN Ver. 13.0. Results: First, after having observed the average difference stemming from each method, this research found that there is no sexual difference in parents‘ social support. (p<.05). In children's perceived competences, female students is higher only in active aspect than male students, but there is no meaningful difference in other aspects. In expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, the showing-off and narcissistic expressive tendency of female students is higher than that of male students, but there is no meaningful difference in other aspects. Second, this research found out the meaningful static correlation among parents' social support, children's perceived competences, and expressive disposition of interpersonal relations. Parents' emotional, appreciative, and informative support has the static correlation with all the other aspects of children's perceived competences, and material support has the static correlation with children's academic, active, and general self-esteeming sense (p<.05, p<.01). Third, this research observed, of all the aspects of parents' social support and expressive disposition of interpersonal relations, what variable is affecting children's perceived competences, and found that parents' appreciative support, showing-off and narcissistic expressive tendency, material support, and informative support, each in order, has meaningful influence (p<.05, p<.01). This fact shows that the further the children recognize these supports of their parents', the more affirmatively they recognize their competences, and the further the children of showing-off and narcissistic expressive disposion recognize their competences. Conclusions: First, sampling was conducted of the fifth and sixth male and female students of OO elementary school, and so the result of this research has the applicative limitation in the generalization for all the elementary school students. Therefore this research suggests further researches by broad sampling for the more advanced generalization. Second, this research only observed the differnce of perception deriving from gender and school year, but the parents' social support levels perceived by children reveal many differnces according to children's characters or their families' variables. Therefore this research suggests subsequent researches on various variables.
