Analysis of Relationship between PCK and Possibility of Teaching about Informatics Subject of Elementary School Teachers (초등교사의 정보교과 교수내용지식(PCK)에 대한 인식과 교수 가능성과의 관계 분석)

  • Software education of 17 hours is essential in the elementary school in the 2015 revised curriculum. Unplugged is recommended as a teaching-learning method. Teachers should have a high level of PCK about Informatics Subject in order to utilize Unplugged. The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between PCK and possibility of teaching about Informatics Subject of elementary school teachers. For this purpose, 172 elementary school teachers were surveyed. The results of this study are as follows. First, elementary school teachers confirmed that the PCK level of informatics subject is low. Second, it was confirmed that there is a high correlation between PCK and possible of teaching. This study is meaningful that it suggested a method to increase the level of PCK about informatics subject of elementary school teachers.

The Development and Application of Storytelling based Software Education Board Game (스토리텔링기반 소프트웨어교육 보드게임의 개발 및 적용)

  • Coding education for elementary school student spreads around the world. Game activity that children like is one of coding education methods. Among these, a board game is a tool where 3~4 children can participate together. This study developed a storytelling-based board game to help elementary school students understand Software education. The board game is composed of board, three types of command cards and dice. This study simultaneously surveyed and interviewed 57 fifth- and sixth-grade students at elementary school after playing the board game 4 times so as to analyze the usefulness of the developed software board game. In the results of study, most of elementary school students would be interested and participated in active. Elementary school students actually got to know algorithm easily through board game activity, and learned basic programming concepts such as sequence, condition, loop, variable and operation.

  • The objective of this paper is to verify the usefulness and validity of ICT-based elementary education for musical composition using multimedia technology. Cearing with the characteristic of musical education, multimedia technology, which has made dazzling progress thanks to the rapid development of computer for the last several year, is expected to be a new alternative to overcome various problems of musical education and enhance students` musical function and knowledge. In particular, if ICT-based musical education is introduced in teaching musical composition, in which many elementary school techers feel difficulties, significant education effects will be produced. ICT-based musical education method in the paper identified imitation and problems in traditional theory-based learning and musical composition class using musical instruments and, as a part of resolving the limitations and problems, instructed elementary students in how to use a computer program and applied the program to musical composition class. As a result, the method maximized learning effect and improved stusents` ability to create melodies in a short term compared to traditional teaching methods.

  • In line with the social changes due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, foreign countries are strengthening information education for the future of education. This study analyzed the current status of software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) education among different types of information education programs in elementary schools of major foreign countries, and compared them with the education provided in Korea. Compared to major foreign countries, Korea allocated very little time for software education in elementary schools, making it difficult to sufficiently cover all areas of the curriculum achievement standards. In addition, other countries recognized the importance of artificial intelligence, an important technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and were providing artificial intelligence education on the basis of software education at the national level. The Korean government is also planning on providing the education at national level, but it was identified that the information education of elementary schools have many problematic issues. This study emphasized the need to establish an information curriculum for elementary schools as a way to address these issues.

  • In the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is a time when all the devices and people interact to create new added value. Software education is necessary in elementary school because what is more important is software. However, until now there is a lack of teaching and learning methods for software education in elementary school. In this paper, IDOL model is proposed as a method to solve this problem. statements for elementary students. The idol model is learning through observe, to implement, to diversify. In the implementation, the elementary students are to make it quickly, In the diversification, it is variously changing the things that have been made, and observation how the changed things are different. A model is verified by a group of experts consisting of elementary school teachers.

Conceptions Toward Career Development and Occupational View between Giftedness in Computer Science and Normal Students in Elementary School (초등정보과학영재와 일반학생의 진로발달 및 직업관 인식에 대한 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the differences of the career development and the occupational view between giftedness in computer science and normal students in elementary school, so the results of this study provide assistance to the teacher for the direction and guidance on the career education of the giftedness in computer science in elementary school. This survey is based on 82 giftedness in computer science and 167 normal elementary school students. The questionnaires used in the study contain questions asking regarding the career development and the occupational view. The results of this study were as follows : First, according to the consciousness analysis result about career, the giftedness in computer science choose to be scientific technicians, the normal students choose to be artists. The both groups get career information from their parents, but they usually don't get career counseling from teachers. The education of giftedness in computer science does not contribute to changing their dreams, while normal students have no interest in computer science. Second, according to the career development analysis result, in comparison with non-gifted students, the gifted in information science had more success in all domains of career development. Third, according to the occupational view analysis result, the information science gifted students had higher meaningful rate than the normal students. Intrinsic domain' had higher meaningful rate among the subordinate domains, there is no difference in 'extrinsic domain' and 'incidental domain' between the information science gifted students and the normal students. Fourth, according to the correlation analysis result of the career development and the occupational view, there is a positive correlation in all domains of them. The high they are in the career development, the more they have the certain occupational view. Likewise, if they have the certain occupational view, they will be more successful in career development. Based on the findings of this research, the directing and guidance on the career education of giftedness in computer science in elementary school is same as the followings. We should educate parents regarding information about career for students who are under the influence of parents greatly and indicate them to apply to their children appropriately. In addition, for making them to have the positive image of the computer science, teacher should provide more information about the area of information and form various curriculums to induce more interests about computer science. We need to strengthen the career education for guiding the gifted to assist them to establish their own goal and realize them how to study and choose their career in the future. In school education field, it must develop and manage the definite and empirical program, not the career development program which is focused on only entrance into advanced school, to boost self-realization ability and the suitable career education program based on the correct understanding on giftedness in computer science. For this, through steady trying and research, teachers should be eater to develop the career education for students. Also, we have to implement the internal stability career education program, so it will help students to be aware of their job and career; therefore, students will be able to plan and prepare for their career in this rapid changing world.

  • The present study analyzed the effects of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), founded on the constructivist theory, on the problem solving process and computer application ability as to students' level in elementary computer education. According to the PBL model, developed on the basis of previous research and the purpose of the study, the area of 'application of software' in third-grade computer curriculum was redesigned for the three-week period of the experiment. The results of the analyses showed that problem-based learning tended to exert differential effects with regard to students' level on the problem-solving process and computer application ability in computer education. The implications of the study and suggestions for the future study were discussed.

  • The information infrastructure between all the elementary and middle schools of the nation have made it possible to build an environment to breed competent students for our future society. However, since the focus of computer education has been mostly on utilization, it has created many problems such as limitation of creativity, weakening the self-studying skill and many other. Consequently this study is for the development of the textbooks of the computer principles in education and shows the affirmative effect of the improvement of creativity through their application.

  • 요즘 과학, 수학 교과 등은 기초 교육 강조는 물론 창의성 교육에까지 관심을 가지고 있다. 7차 교육과정의 등장과 사회의 변화 흐름을 통해 '창의성'이 강조되고 있고, 교육에서도 창의성 교육이 대두되고 있다. 그러나 우리나라의 컴퓨터 교육 현황을 살펴보면 창의성과는 거리가 멀 뿐만 아니라, 다른 교과를 배우는데 도움을 주는 교과로서의 역할만을 하고 있다. 또한 컴퓨터 활용 교육이 이루어짐에 따라 저학년에서 고학년까지 유사한 내용의 교육을 반복해서 받는 경우가 생기고, 특히 5, 6학년은 실과 시간과 재량 시간의 교육 내용이 서로 중복되어 교육 효율이 떨어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 교육의 기초를 다지는 시기인 초등학교에서부터 창의적인 컴퓨터 교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 하고자 하며 이를 위해 초등학교 수준에 맞는 프로그래밍 관련 교육을 살펴보고, 초등 컴퓨터 창의성 향상 교육을 뒷받침할 수 있는 프로그래밍 관련 교재 개발 방안을 제안한다.

Story Composition support by IGA and CBR

  • Elementary school pupils frequently have difficult acquiring creative writing skills, i.e. how to develop the idea to be expressed, how to compose the materials of the outcome or contents. In this paper, we focus on the problems of how to support creative writing work to arrange materials in order to formulate ideas as the stories develop. the stories develop. The basic ideas behind the method are that(1) a basic story is automatically generated by GA-based operations and shown to a user as sequences of pictures, (2) IGA(Interactive Genetic Algorithm) is used to evaluate and select a preferred story, (3) the results are combined with previously stored stories using case-based techniques. Based on these ideas, we have developed a computer supported environment for this purpose and conducted related experiments.
