Triboelectrostatic separation process is a technology that different particles charged after contact and rubbing different materials are separated in a high electric field. This technology has an advantage in that it can be used for separating non-conducting materials such as plastics unlike other electrostatic separation processes. There are two objectives in this study. One is to develop an effective continuous tribo-electrostatic separation process. The other is to apply the developed device for the separation of mixed plastics. Results show that almost all tested plastics reaches over 95% in yield and grade after separation.
This paper proposes a multi-resolution electrostatic potential field (MREPF) based solution to the mobile robot path planning and collision avoidance problem in 2D dynamic environment. The MREPF is an environment method in calculation time and updating field map. The large scale resolution map is added to EPF and this resolution map interacts with the small scale resolution map to find an optimal solution in real time. This approach can be interpreted with Atlantis model. The simulation studies show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
The energy dispersion and magnetization of a modified magnetic dot are investigated numerically. The effects of additional electrostatic potential, magnetic field non-uniformity, and Zeeman spin splitting are studied. The modified magnetic quantum dot is a magnetically formed quantum structure that has different magnetic fields inside and outside of the dot. The additional electrostatic potential prohibits the ground-state angular momentum transition in the energy dispersion as a function of the magnetic field inside the dot, and provides oscillation of the magnetization as a function of the chemical potential energy. The magnetic field non-uniformity broadens the shape of the magnetization. The Zeeman spin splitting produces additional peaks on the magnetization.

Methods and systems to remove static electricity are requested in the field of industry because the static electricity causes a flammable gas explosion or fire and a reduction of production rate in manufacturing semiconductor devices and so on. This paper is a basic study about a new structure of electrode system to control the quantities of generated ions and to solve the problem of dust attachment to needle electrode. In addition, a new type field controlled electrostatic charge neutralizer was proposed, and it could control the electric field in the end of the needle electrode by controlling the voltage of the third electrode around the tip of the needle electrode. As aresult, it was possible to control the quantities of generated ion by controlling the electric field in the needle electrode with the third electrode, which shows the possibilities to solve the nonequilibrium of generated ions in ac power source and the problem of the dust in the needle electrode.
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and gelatin (GEL) blend membranes were prepared by solution casting method under a high electric field. SEM observation of the membrane showed that gelatin rich domains were elongated and oriented to the direction of the applied electric field in PVA matrix. This can be attributed to the electrostatic emulsifying effects due to a reduction in interfacial tension. In addition, it was observed through WAXD and swelling measurements that the degree of crystallinity of membranes increased with applied electric field strength. This may be interpreted to be caused by the orientation effect of GEL domains in the blend membrane, and the self-annealing effect due to some heat generated from high electric field during casting.
In most coal fired power plants, fly ashes collected from each of hoppers in the electrostatic precipitator are transported and stored in a silo. However the properties of the fly ashes collected from each of hoppers in electrostatic precipitator varies with the distance of the collection field from the boiler. The more distance hopper gets fly ash with larger specific surface area. Therefore, in electrostatic precipitator the hopper itself is expected to have the effect of classifying fly ashes. This study examines the physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of fly ash, collected from each of hoppers attached to an electrostatic precipitator in the coal fired power plant and looks into the possibility of the electrostatic precipitator being used as a classifier. Also, the study reviewed the possibility of acquiring high quality fly ash.
This work is focused on analyzing ion-pair interactions and showing the effect of solvent induced inter-atomic attractions in various dielectric environments. To estimate the stability of ion-pairs, SCI-PCM ab initio MO calculations were carried out. We show that the solvent-induced attraction or ‘cavitation' energy of the ion-pair interactions in solution that arises mainly from the stabilization of the water molecules by the generation of an electrostatic field. In fact, even the strong electrostatic interaction characteristic of ion-pair interactions in the gas phase cannot overcome the destabilization or reorganization of the water molecules around solute cavities that arise from cancellation of the electrostatic field. The solvent environment, possibly supplemented by some specific solvent molecules, may help place the solute molecule in a cavity whose surroundings are characterized by an infinite polarizable dielectric medium. This behavior suggests that hydrophobic residues at a protein surface could easily contact the side chains of other nearby residues through the solvent environment, instead of by direct intra-molecular interactions.

We investigate the triboelectrostatic separation of polyvinylchloride (PVC) from mixed plastics in the laboratory scale triboelectrostatic separation system. The flow and electric fields in the precipitator are obtained from the numerical solution of finite volume method. Using these flow and electric fields, we solved the particle motion equation considering the inertia, drag, gravity and electrostatic forces acted on the particles. The particle trajectories are obtained using a Lagrangian method as a function of different important variables such as Reynolds number, Stokes number, electrostatic force, electric charge and electric field distribution, inclined angle of plane electrodes, particle rebounding, particle charge decay rate after impact on the electrode surface, etc., in order to determine the optimal design conditions. The present predicted results for the cumulative yield represent well the experimental ones.

A planar vibratory gyroscope using electrostatic actuation and electromagnetic detection is proposed. The gyroscope has large sensitivity and can be fabricated by using surface micrimachining, bulk micromachining and conventional machining technology. In this paper, the gyroscope and the electromagnetic detecting system equations are derived to determine the output characteristics for the planar vibratory gyroscope using electrostatic acturation and electromagnetic detection. The maximum output is obtained when the driving frequencyequals to the detecting frequency. The resonant frequencies of the resonator are determined by the beam stiffness, i.e. the material constants and spring dimensions. The dimensions of the beams are determined using the analytic vibration modelling. The expected resonant frequencies are 200Hz both and the sensitivity is 62mV/deg/sec with 4000 electronic circuit amplifying coefficient for an AC drive voltage of 3V bias voltage of 15V and DC field current of 50 mA.
