Environmental Analysis of Waste Cable Recycling Process using a Life Cycle Assessment Method (전과정평가기법을 활용한 폐전선 재자원화 공정의 환경성 평가)

  • The development of the electrical, electronic, and telecommunication industries has increased the share of electricity in total energy consumption. With the enforcement of the Act on the Promotion of the Development, Use, and Diffusion of New and Renewable Energy in 2021, the mandatory supply ratio of new and renewable energy is expected to expand, and the amount of waste cables generated in the stage of replacing and discarding cables used in the industry is also expected to increase. The purpose of this study was to quantify the environmental burden of waste cable recycling through the life cycle assessment (LCA) method. The results showed that the higher the amount of glue contained in the waste cable, the greater was the amount of fine dust and greenhouse gases generated. In addition, by assigning weights to 10 environmental burden items, it was confirmed that the marine aquatic eco-toxicity potential (MAETP) and human toxicity potential (HTP) had the greatest environmental burden. The main causes were identified as heptane and ethanol, which were the glue contained in the waste cable and the cleaning solutions used to remove them. Therefore, it is necessary to refrain from using glue in the cable production process and reduce the environmental burden by reducing the use of waste cable cleaning solutions used in the recycling process or using alternative materials.

Biological Leaching of Cu, Al, Zn, Ni, Co, Sn and Pb from Waste Electronic Scrap using Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans (廢電子스크랩에서 Thiobacillus ferrooxidans를 이용한 Cu, Al, Zn, Ni, Co, Sn 및 Pb의 浸出)

  • In order to recover valuable metals from the waste electronic scrap, bioleaching of Cu, Zn, Al, Co, Ni, Sn and Pb was carried out using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans as a leaching microorganism in a shaking flask. In a preliminary study, to obtain the data on the leaching of Cu, Zn, Al, Co and Ni, the metal leaching was accomplished using metal powers instead of electronic scrap. The leaching percentaga of Cu, Zn, Co, Al and Ni powers was reduced with the increase of metal power concentration in solution. Below the metal concentration of 0.5 g/L, more than 85% of Cu, Co and Zn powers was leached out. At the electronic scrap concentration of 100 g/L, Thiobacillus ferrooxidans were able to leach more than 90% of the available Cu and Co while Al, Zn and Ni were able to leach less than 40%. Pb and Sn were not detected in the leachate. Pb was precipitated as PbSO$_4$, whereas Sn precipitated probably as SnO.

  • The EMI filter used in switching apparatus is designed on the basis of personal designer experience. A try and error approach leads to a considerables waste of time without assurance to come out to a good solution. The difficulty in the right choice of the component values resides on the dominant role played by their parasitic components at high frequencies and is aggravated by the poor knowledge of the internal impedance of the noise generators. In this paper, we proposed the design technique for the EMI filter effectively using the LISN and the EMI analyzer in the industrial field.

  • It is an important task to construct a recycling society with a low damage on the environment in our century. Magnetic separation is expected to be applied for the industrial waste treatment as an important supporting technology. In the magnetic separation of dry condition, the cohesive force between particles is strong compared with that in the wet condition's magnetic separation. The use of high magnetic field by the superconducting magnet enhances the powder's magnetic substance capture ability of the magnetic separation. In this study, the POSCO's coolant sludge of hot rolled steel was used for the superconducting magnetic separation of dry condition. Cryo-cooled NB-Ti superconducting magnet with 100 mm room temperature bore and 600 mm of height was used for magnetic separator.

  • A comparative investigation of an experimental and a simulation of chemical kinetics for NOx removal from dielectric barrier discharges is presented. Several types of dielectric barrier discharges were implemented depending upon the configuration of electrodes. The simulation was based on an approximate mathematical model for plasma cleaning of waste gas. The influence of non uniform distributions of species due to the production of primary active particles in the streamer channel was taken into account. A comparison of observed experimental to the calculated removal efficiency of NOx showed acceptable agreement.

  • Because the traditional filters have many demerits, multi-step electric oil filter have manufactured the efficiency of insulating oil to improve. Therefore, the function of oil filter to improve based on my experience and know-how about my job. Through this study have obtained many merits. The efficiency of insulating oil is improved. The waste oil reused in repair works of the damaged transformer. Multi-step filter is shortening the working time and safety. it is handy for use and movement. This study lengthen the expected life span of filter. The improvement of oil filter bring about elevation of productivity.

  • The low efficiency of bulk thermoelectric materials has limited the widespread application of thermoelectric power generation. Theoretical and experimental investigations indicate that materials prepared in the form of nanowires show higher thermoelectric coefficients, thus promising to revolutionize the field. This article reviews the basics of thermoelectric power generation, conventional devices, the role of nanowires and the current status of the field.

  • Since transient electronic devices can operate under harsh conditions such as electrolytic solutions or inside the body, and be removed by hydrolysis after operation, they can replace conventional electronic devices in various research areas like biomedical implantable devices. Moreover, transient electronic devices that can dissolve in water and enzymes are the focus of the new concept of green technology, which can solve electrical waste issues. However, the surroundings of transient electronic devices can deteriorate internal device components. Thus, an encapsulation strategy is introduced for stable operation in solution by shielding the outside of a device with a passive barrier. This article summarizes recent research trends in transient electronic devices, including their background, dissolution behavior, and encapsulation strategies to enhance reliability by blocking water permeation.
