  • This paper presents a new non-constraining online optical handwritten signature reconstruction system that, in the main, makes use of a transparent glass pad placed in front of a color camera. The reconstruction approach allows efficient exploitation of hand activity during a signing process; thus, the system as a whole can be seen as a viable alternative to other similar acquisition tools. This proposed system allows people with physical or emotional problems to carry out their own signatures without having to use a pen or sophisticated acquisition system. Moreover, the developed reconstruction signature algorithms have low computational complexity and are therefore well suited for a hardware implementation on a dedicated smart system.

  • "e-Leaning" system is classified by lecture time into two types, that is, "synchronous type" spent the same lecture time between the lecturer and students, and "asynchronous type" spent the different lecture time. The size of image database is huge, and there are some problem on the management of the lecture image database in "asynchronous type" e-Learning system. The one of them is that the time tag for the database management must be added manually at present, and the cost of the addition of the time tag causes a serious problem. To resolve the problem, we will use the character recognition for the characters written by the lecturer on whiteboard, and will add the recognized character as a keyword to the tag of the image database. If the database would have the keyword, we could retrieve the database by the keyword efficiently, and the student could select the interested lecture scene only in the full lecture database.

  • Aluminum-doped Zinc Oxide (AZO) is considered as an excellent candidate to replace Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), which is widely used as transparent conductive oxide (TCO) for electronic devices such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic solar cells (OSCs). In the present study, AZO thin film was applied to the transparent electrode of a channel-shaped flexible organic solar cell using a low-temperature selective-area atomic layer deposition (ALD) process. AZO thin films were deposited on Poly-Ethylene-Naphthalate (PEN) substrates with Di-Ethyl-Zinc (DEZ) and Tri-Methyl-Aluminum (TMA) as precursors and $H_2O$ as an oxidant for the atomic layer deposition at the deposition temperature of $130^{\circ}C$. The pulse time of TMA, DEZ and $H_2O$, and purge time were 0.1 second and 20 second, respectively. The electrical and optical properties of the AZO films were characterized as a function of film thickness. The 300 nm-thick AZO film grown on a PEN substrate exhibited sheet resistance of $87{\Omega}$/square and optical transmittance of 84.3% at a wavelength between 400 and 800 nm.

  • In this paper, we propose a stable automatic signature verification algorithm applicable to various smart devices. The proposed algorithm uses real and forgery data all together, which can improve the verification rate dramatically. As a tool for signature acquisition in a smart device, two applications, one using touch with a finger and the other using a pressure-sensing-stylus pen, are developed. The verification core is based on SVM and some modifications are made to include the characteristics of signatures. As shown in experimental results, the minimum error rate was 1.84% in the SVM based method, which can easily defeat 4.38% error rate with the previous parametric approach. Even more, 2.43% error rate was achieved with the features excluding pressure-related features, better than the previous approach including pressure-related features and only about 0.6% more error than the best result, which means that the proposed algorithm can be applied to a smart device with or without pressure-sensing-stylus pens and used for security purposes.

  • We have fabricated semiconductor nanocrystals using phase separation on flexible substrates for future application in QD-LEDs. The phase separation between the CdSe semiconductor nanocrystals and TPD organic underlayer can occur during the solvent drying, and the CdSe may rise towards the surface of the coated films, which is arranged into close packed array called self-assembly process. In this work, the polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) films of $200{\mu}m$ thickness was used as a flexible substrate, which was coated with indium tin oxide(ITO) as a transparent electrode of <$15{\Omega}/cm^2$. A number of solvents such as chloroform, toluene, and hexane was used and their coating properties were investigated using the spin coating process. The dispersion of both QD and TPD was rather poor in toluene and hexane and resulted in rougher surface and some aggregates. Meanwhile, the surface roughness of templates can be a very critical issue in the fabrication of QD-LED devices. Some experiments was performed to reduce the ~4nm surface roughness of the PEN films and It can be decreased to the minimum of ~0.7nm. Also discussed are the optical properties of semiconductor nanocrystals used in this phase separation and possible large area and continuous coating process for future application.

  • In this study, the influences of silicon-based gas barrier films fabricated by using a facing target sputtering(FTS) system on the gas permeability for flexible displays have been investigated. Under these optimum conditions on the $SiO_x$ film with oxygen concentration($O_2/Ar+O_2$) of 3.3% and the $SiO_xN_y$ film with nitrogen concentration($N_2/Ar+O_2+N_2$) of 30% deposited by the FTS system, it was found that the films were grown about 4 times higher deposition rate than that of the conventional sputtering system and showed high transmittance about 85% in the visible light range. Particularly, the polyethylene naphthalate(PEN) substrates with the $SiO_x$ and/or $SiO_xN_y$ films showed the enhanced properties of decreased water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) over $10^{-1}\;g/m^2{\cdot}day$ compared with the PEN substrate without any gas barrier films, which was due to high packing density in the Si-based films with high plasma density by FTS process and/or the denser chemical structure of Si-N bond in the $SiO_xN_y$ film.

  • Electrical and optical characteristics of indium tin oxide (ITO) and indium zinc oxide (IZO) films without and with $(SiO_2)_3(ZnO)_7$ at.% (SZO) film deposited on poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) and poly(ethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates as a gas barrier layer for flexible display were studied. The ITO and IZO films with SZO gas barrier layer showed the improved properties which were both the high transmittance of average 80% in the visible light range and the decreased sheet resistance as compared to those of ITO and IZO films without SZO layer. Particularly, the PEN substrate with only SZO gas barrier layer had a low water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of $\sim10^{-3}g/m^2$/day. Thus, we suggest that the SZO film with protection ability against the water vapor permeation can be applied to gas barrier layer for flexible display.

  • Low temperature annealing for oxide TFTs including IGZO on PI substrate is the essential process to fabricate flexible display devices, since low heat-resistance on PI and PEN substrates limits the temperature range. Laser annealing is one of the promising candidates for low temperature process, and it has been used for various application in semiconductor and LCD fabrication. We irradiated laser to solution-based IGZO thin films on PI substrate were irradiated to laser beam, and investigated laser damage of PI layer. Based on transmittance analysis, wavelength(532nm) and scan speed(1000mm/s) is the optimized condition for laser irradiation about ink-Jet printed oxide TFTs on PI substrates.

  • In this paper, a new target extraction algorithm is proposed, in which the coordinates of target are obtained adaptively by using the difference image information and the optical BPEJTC(binary phase extraction joint transform correlator) with which the target object can be segmented from the input image and background noises are removed in the stereo vision system. First, the proposed algorithm extracts the target object by removing the background noises through the difference image information of the sequential left images and then controlls the pan/tilt and convergence angle of the stereo camera by using the coordinates of the target position obtained from the optical BPEJTC between the extracted target image and the input image. From some experimental results, it is found that the proposed algorithm can extract the target object from the input image with background noises and then, effectively track the target object in real time. Finally, a possibility of implementation of the adaptive stereo object tracking system by using the proposed algorithm is also suggested.

  • Electronic Ink is a stored data in the form of the handwritten text or the script without converting it into ASCII by handwritten recognition on the pen-based computers and Personal Digital Assistants(Pocket PC) for supporting natural and convenient data input. One of the most important issues is to search the electronic ink in order to use it. We proposed and implemented a script matching algorithm for the electronic ink. Proposed matching algorithm separated the input stroke into a set of primitive stroke using the curvature of the stroke curve. After determining the type of separated strokes, it produced a stroke feature vector. And then it calculated the distance between the stroke feature vector of input strokes and one of strokes in the database using the dynamic programming technique.
