We have isolated Chondromyces crocatus KYC2823 in pure culture and five other strains in mixed culture with companion bacteria from Korean soil samples. The strain KYC2823, which was isolated from the soil sample collected in Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, showed typical characteristics of C. crocatus, including the shape of fruiting bodies and production of a peculiar odor. In addition, the 16S rDNA sequence was 99.8% identical to that of the strain Cm c5, the proposed neotype strain of C. crocatus. Cloning and sequence analysis of the polyketide biosynthetic genes from KYC2823 by performing PCR have revealed that this strain has biosynthetic gene clusters for ajudazols (inhibitors of electron transport systems) and chondramides (substances affecting the function of the actin cytoskeleton), and biosynthetic genes for other polyketide compounds that have not been cloned yet.

Thermal analysis and control design are prerequisite essential to design the satellite. In the space environment, it makes satellite survive from extreme hot and cold conditions. In recent years CubeSat mission is developed for many kinds of purpose. Triplet Ionospheric Observatory (TRIO)-CubeSat for Ion, Neutral, Electron, MAgnetic fields (CINEMA) is required to weigh less than 3 kg and operate on minimal 3 W power. In this paper we describe the thermal analysis and control design for TRIO-CINEMA mission. For this thermal analysis, we made a thermal model of the CubeSat with finite element method and NX6.0 TMG software is used to simulate this analysis model. Based on this result, passive thermal control method has been applied to thermal design of CINEMA. In order to get the better conduction between solar panel and chassis, we choose aluminum 6061-T6 for the material property of standoff. We can increase the average temperature of top and bottom solar panels from $-70^{\circ}C$ to $-40^{\circ}C $ and decrease the average temperature of the magnetometer from $+93^{\circ}C$ to $-4^{\circ}C$ using black paint on the surface of the chassis, inside of top & bottom solar panels, and magnetometer.

Nitridation technique has been receiving much attention for the formation of a thin nitrided buffer layer on which high quality nitride films can be formedl. Particularly, gallium nitride (GaN) has been considered as a promising material for blue-and ultraviolet-emitting devices. It can also be used for in situ formed and stable passivation layers for selective growth of $GaAs_2$. In this work, formation of a thin nitrided layer is investigated. Nitrogen electron cyclotron resonance(ECR)-plasma is employed for the formation of thin nitrided layer. The plasma source used in this work is a compact ECR plasma gun3 which is specifically designed to enhance control, and to provide in-situ monitoring of plasma parameters during plasma-assisted processing. Microwave power of 100-200 W was used to excite the plasma which was emitted from an orifice of 25 rnm in diameter. The substrate were positioned 15 em away from the orifice of plasma source. Prior to nitridation is performed, the surface of n-type (001)GaAs was exposed to hydrogen plasma for 20 min at $300{\;}^{\circ}C$ in order to eliminate a native oxide formed on GaAs surface. Change from ring to streak in RHEED pattern can be obtained through the irradiation of hydrogen plasma, indicating a clean surface. Nitridation was carried out for 5-40 min at $RT-600{\;}^{\circ}C$ in a ECR plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy system. Typical chamber pressure was $7.5{\times}lO^{-4}$ Torr during the nitridations at $N_2$ flow rate of 10 seem.(omitted)mitted)

FTIR technique was applied to delineate spectroscopic characteristics of natural, synthetic and irradiated diamonds. All of the samples studied in this work show the absorption peaks, which are generally observed in diamond as well as the specific one related to N in diamonds. Synthetic diamond is characterized with both the peaks of 1344 and $1128 cm^{-1}$ related to HPHT synthesis and specific $1050 cm^{-1}$ peak only observed in synthetic diamond, which can be used to discriminate natural from synthetic. Type (natural blue diamond: IIb, electron beam Irradiated blue diamond: Type Ia) can be used to discriminate natural from irradiated diamond. The intensity of specific $1450 cm^{-1}$ peak observed only in irradiated diamond is related with irradiation and annealing process.
We analyzed the interface characteristics of Zn-based thin-film buffer layers formed by a sulfur thermal cracker on a $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ (CIGS) light-absorber layer. The analyzed Zn-based thin-film buffer layers are processed by a proposed method comprising two processes - Zn-sputtering and cracker-sulfurization. The processed buffer layers are then suitable to be used in the fabrication of highly efficient CIGS solar cells. Among the various Zn-based film thicknesses, an 8 nm-thick Zn-based film shows the highest power conversion efficiency for a solar cell. The band alignment of the buffer/CIGS was investigated by measuring the band-gap energies and valence band levels across the depth direction. The conduction band difference between the near surface and interface in the buffer layer enables an efficient electron transport across the junction. We found the origin of the energy band structure by observing the chemical states. The fabricated buffer/CIGS layers have a structurally and chemically distinct interface with little elemental inter-diffusion.

In this study, the extruded Al-6.3Zn-2.4Mg alloys were selected among the 7000 series aluminum alloys sensitive to hydrogen environment in order to examine the effects of both the aging conditions and the length of hydrogen charging period on the mechanical properties of the alloy. The specimens were aged for 24hours at $100^{\circ}C$ (under aging (UA)), $120^{\circ}C$ (peak aging (PA)), and $160^{\circ}C$ (over aging (OA)), respectively. Charging tests were performed at RT for 12, 24, 36 hours under potentiostatic conditions (-2000 mV vs (Ag/AgCl)) for 12, 24 and 36 hours in 1M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.1%$NH_4SCN$ solution. The fracture surface was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern in peak aged sample was obtained before and after hydrogen charging from extruded Al-6.3Zn-2.4Mg alloys. The decreasing rate of tensile strength and elongation is represented in order of over aging < under aging < peak aging, and it is believed that the hydrogen recharge is more sensitive to elongation than tensile strength. The formation of $AlH_3$ in hydrogen charged Al-6.3Zn-2.4Mg alloys has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies.

The device performances of n-channel MuGFET with different fin numbers and fin widths but the total effective channel width is constant have been characterized. Two kinds of Pi-gate devices with fin number=16, fin width=55nm, and fin number=14, fin width=80nm have been used in characterization. The threshold voltage, effective electron mobility, threshold voltage roll-off, inverse subthreshold slope, PBTI, hot carrier degradation, and drain breakdown voltage have been characterized. From the measured results, the short channel effects have been reduced for narrow fin width and large fin numbers. PBTI degradation was more significant in devices with large fin number and narrow fin width but hot carrier degradation was similar for both devices. The drain breakdown voltage was higher for devices with narrow fin width and large fin numbers. With considering the short channel effects and device degradation, the devices with narrow fin width and large fin numbers are desirable in the device layout of MuGFETs.

Many of the current development in surface modification engineering are focused on multilayered coatings, which have the potential to improve the tribological properties. Four different multilayered coatings were deposited on AISI D2 steel in this study. The prepared samples are designed as $WC-Ti_{0.6}Al_{0.4}N,\;WC-Ti_{0.53}Al_{0.47}N,\;WC-Ti_{0.5}Al_{0.5}N\;and\;WC-Ti_{0.43}Al_{0.57}N$. The multilayered coatings were investigated with respect to coating surface and cross-sectional morphology, roughness, adhesion, hardness, porosity and tribological behaviors. Especially, wear tests of four multilayered coatings were performed by using a ball-on-disc configuration with a linear sliding speed of 0.017 m/sec and a normal load of 5.38 N load. The tests were carried out at room temperature in air by employing AISI 52100 steel ball $(H_R\;=\;66) $ having a diameter of 10 mm. The surface morphology, and topography of the wear scars of samples and balls have been determined by using scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM). Also, wear mechanism was determined by using SEM coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Results have showed an improved wear resistance of the $WC-Ti_{1-x}Al_xN$coatings with increasing of Al (aluminum) concentration.

The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial properties of chitosan silver nanocomposites (CAgNCs) using pathogenic Vibrio ichthyoenteri as a bacterial model. Results of agar disc diffusion and turbidimetric assays showed that CAgNCs could inhibit the growth of V. ichthyoenteri in concentration dependent manner. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of CAgNCs were 75 and $125{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. Furthermore, CAgNCs treatment induced the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in V. ichthyoenteri cells in concentration and time dependent manner, suggesting that it generates oxidative stress, leading to bacterial cell death. The field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) images of CAgNCs treated V. ichthyoenteri exhibited strong cell membrane damage than un-treated control bacteria. MTT assay results showed the highest cell viability (22%) at $75{\mu}g/mL$ of CAgNCs treated bacteria samples. The results from this study suggest that CAgNCs is a potential antibacterial agent to control fish pathogenic bacteria.
Primer gunsot residues (GSR) obtained from K1A and K2 rifles, and K5 pistol were analysed with scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX) as basic data in firearm accidents. Ammunition of 5.56 mm is employed for K1A and K2 rifles and 9.0 mm for a K5 pistol. The analyses of morphology, size, particle number, elemental ratio were performed for primer GSR prepared after shooting 3 times. The detected content was Ba>Pb>Sb in most GSR particles but Sb>Pb>Ba or Pb>Sb>Ba in some particles. In the statistical result of composition ratio of elements, the particles with more Sb than Ba were detected in most primer GSR from a K5 pistol, 3~8 times more than K1A and K2 rifles. This results can be employed to discriminate gun type between rifles and pistols. Furthermore, the size and the number of particles can be applied to access the type of guns.
