The pure crystalline $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder has been prepared by a simple solid state reaction of $Li_2CO_3$ and $V_2O_3$ precursors under nitrogen gas containing 10 mol % hydrogen gas flow. The structure of $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder was analyzed using Xray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The stoichiometric $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ powder was used as anode active material for lithium secondary batteries. Its electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and constant current methods using lithium foil electrode. The observed specific discharge capacity and charge capacity were 360 mAh/g and 260 mAh/g during the first cycle, respectively. In addition, the cyclic efficiency of this cell was 72.2% in the first cycle. The specific capacity of $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ anode rapidly declines as the current rate increases and retains only 30 % of the capacity of 0.1C rate at 1C rate. The crystallinity of the $Li_{1.1}V_{0.9}O_2$ anode decrease as discharge reaction proceeds. However, the relative intensity of main peaks was almost recovered when the cell was charged up to 1.5 V.
This paper describes an environmentally friendly process for the recovery of $LiFePO_4$ cathode materials from scrap electrodes by a simple thermal treatment method. The active materials were easily separated from the aluminum substrate foil and polymeric binders were also decomposed at different temperatures ($400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$) for 30 min under nitrogen gas flow. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The electrochemical properties of the recycled $LiFePO_4$ cathode were evaluated by galvanostatic charge and discharge modes. The specific charge/discharge capacities of the recycled $LiFePO_4$ cathode were similar to those of the original $LiFePO_4$ cathode. The $LiFePO_4$ cathode material recovered at $500^{\circ}C$ exhibits a somewhat higher capacity than those of other recovered materials at high current rates. The recycled $LiFePO_4$ cathode also showed a good cycling performance.

Nano-sized Sn powder was prepared by pulsed wire evaporation method. The Sn powder and carbon black were charged in jar and ball milled. The milling time was varied with 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h, respectively. The milled powders were dried and the shape and size were observed by FE-SEM. Nano-sized Sn powders were plastic-deformed and agglomerated by impact force of balls and heat generated during the SPEX milling. The agglomerated Sn powder also consisted of many nano-sized particles. Initial discharge capacities of milled Sn electrode powders with carbon powder were milled for 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h were 787, 829, 827, and 816 mAh/g, respectively. After 5 cycle, discharge capacities of Sn electrode powders with carbon powder milled for 10 min., 1h, 2h, and 4h decreased as 271, 331, 351, and 287 mAh/g, respectively. Because Sn electrode powders milled for 2h constist of uniform and fine size, the cyclability of coin cell made of this powders is better than others.
Interfacial compatibility between the Si-Cu electrode and diluted ionic liquid electrolyte containing 50 vol.% of 1M lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI)/1-methyl-1-propylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (MPP-TFSI) and 50 vol.% dimethyl carbonate (DMC) in a lithium cell and dilution effect on surface chemistry are examined. ex-situ ATR FTIR analysis results reveal that the surface of the Si-Cu electrode cycled in the diluted ionic liquid electrolyte is effectively passivated with the SEI layer mainly composed of carboxylate salts-containing polymeric compounds produced by the decomposition of DMC. Surface species by the decomposition of TFSI anion and MPP cation are found to be relatively in a very low concentration level. Passivation of electrode surface with the SEI species contributes to protect from further interfacial reactions and to preserve the electrode structure over 200 cycles, delivering discharge capacity of > 1670 $mAhg^{-1}$ and capacity retention of 88% of maximum discharge capacity.

Electroless copper plating method using an alkaline bath have been employed in copper coating of the (LM)Ni4.5Co0.1MnO.2A10.2 hydrogen storage alloy powders for electrode preparation. The plating were conducted without any pretreatment of alloy powders. For the preparation of the electrodes, about 0.12g of the copper coated alloy powder (copper to alloy ratio 1/3 by weight) was compacted with pressure of 6 tons/cm2 at room temperature. The disk-type compacts had a diameter of 10mm and thickness of about 0.24mm. The electrode characteristics were examined through SEM observations and electrochemical measurements in a half cell. The electrochemical measurement showed that the maximum discharge capacity of the electrodes prepared by using alkaline bath were 245mAh per gram of coated alloy (327mAh per gram of alloy) and appeared a considerable degradation with increasing number of cycles. The decrease of the discharge capacity after 100 cycles was about 30% It can be suggested that, with a slight of improvement, this electroless copper plating method could be applied to the preparation of the rare earth-nickel based alloy electrode.

Phospho-olivine $LiFePO_4$ cathode materials were prepared by hydrothermal reaction at different temperatures. The structural performance of $LiFePO_4$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). $LiFePO_4$/Li batteries were characterized electrochemically by charge/discharge experiments. The XRD results demonstrate that $LiFePO_4$ powder has an orthorhombic olivine-type structure with a space group of Pnmb. Among the synthesized cathode materials, $LiFePO_4$synthesized at $170^{\circ}C$ and subsequently annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ shows the best electrochemical properties. It shows initial discharge capacity of $167\;mAh\;g^{-1}$ (98% of the theoretical capacity) close to the theoretical capacity of $LiFePO_4$ ($170\;mAh\;g^{-1}$) at 0.1 C rate, which is ascribed to the enhanced degree of crystallinity, better phase purity, more spherical and more finely dispersed nanoparticles, crystallization and activation of small amount impurity.

By calcining at $750^{\circ}C$ for 30 h in $O_2$ stream after milling, $LiNi_{1-y}In_yO_2$(y = 0.005, 0.01, 0.025, 0.05, and 0.1) were synthesized and their electrochemical properties were investigated. All the samples had the $R{\bar{3}}m$ structure. In addition, they contained $LiInO_2$ phase and the intensities of the peaks for the $LiInO_2$ phase increased as the value of y increased. The sample with y = 0.01 had the largest first discharge capacity (140.2 mAh/g), but the sample with y = 0.005 had a better cycling performance. The samples with y $\geq$ 0.025 had a bad cycling performance irrespective of the first discharge capacity. The sample with y = 0.005 had the largest value of $I_{003}/I_{104}$ and the smallest value of R-factor. Among all the samples, $LiNi0_{0.995}In_{0.005}O_2$ had the best electrochemical properties. This sample had a smaller first discharge capacity than $LiNiO_2$, but it showed a better cycling performance than $LiNiO_2$.

In order to increase the electrochemical performance of thermal battery anode, LIFT anode having the same weight but a larger lithium content in electrodes was fabricated by mixing lithium, iron and titanium. By applying these electrodes, a single cell and a thermal battery were prepared, and the effect of LIFT anode on electrochemical performance was evaluated. The LIFT-applied single cell presented a better cell performance than LIFe-applied single cell at 500℃ and 550℃. The discharge performance of LIFT-applied single cell, which included the operating time (787s), specific capacity (1,683 Asg-1), and electrode utilization (80.7%), was improved collectively compared to the LIFe applied single cell (736s, 1,245 As g-1, and 74.6%) at 500℃. As the discharge progressed, the internal resistance of LIFT anode decreased, because the lithium migration path was formed due to the presence of large titanium particles among iron particles. These results were analyzed in terms of the microstructure of electrode using SEM. Energy density of LIFT-applied single cell also increased by 10% to 142.1 Wh kg-1 compared to that of LIFe-applied single cell (127.4 Wh kg-1). In addition, the LIFT-applied single cell presented a stable discharge performance for 6,500s without a short circuit which could occur by molten lithium under an open circuit voltage condition with a high pressure (4 kgf cm-2). As observed in the high temperature thermal battery performance tests, the voltage and specific capacity of LIFT-applied thermal battery are superior to those of LIFe-applied thermal batteries, indicating that the energy density of LIFT-applied thermal batteries should remarkably increase.

Up to now, Plasma applications are thought as a leading technology in industrial, chemical and even medical and biological field. Especially, Due to direct discharge in liquid with reaction in ambient solution, plasma in liquid is useful plasma technology. Such as electro-surgery, water purification, radical generation for synthesis. For using those plasma applications efficiently, plasma characteristics should be understood in advance. But discharge in liquid is not much well-known about its characteristics. And plasma discharge in solution is difficult to generate and analysis due to electrolysis, vaporization and radical generation. So, We make stable plasma discharge in solution(saline 0.9%) without input gas. We also analyze new type of plasma source in thermal and electrochemical view. And we check characteristics of plasma in liquid. For example, plasma density and radical density(OH) with optical emission, thermal energy with thermometer, electrical energy with oscilloscope and so on. And we try to explain the bubble and plasma formation with circuit analysis.
The dielectric barrier discharge is recognized as one of the efficient methods of ultraviolet light generation and ozone production. As well, it is widely utilized for gaseous wastes neutralization and other technological processes in industry. This electrochemical reaction is electrically equivalent to a nonlinear capacitive load that represents some difficulties for designing the power supply. Therefore, a conventional power supply is designed for a drastically simplified model of the load and generally is not optimal. This paper presents a fast simulation approach for the nonlinear capacitive model representation of the dielectric barrier discharge load lamp. The main idea of the proposed method is to use analytical solutions of the differential state equations for the load and find the unknown initial conditions for the steady state by an optimization method. The derived expressions for the analytical solutions are rather complicated, however they greatly reduce the calculation time, which make sense when a deeper analysis is performed. This paper introduces the proposed simulation method and gives some examples of its application such as estimation of the load equivalent parameters and load matching conditions.
