Stabilizing Control of DC/DC Buck Converters with Constant Power Loads in Continuous Conduction and Discontinuous Conduction Modes Using Digital Power Alignment Technique

  • The purpose of this raper is to address the negative impedance instability in DC/DC converters. We present the negative impedance instability of PWM DC/DC converters loaded by constant power loads (CPLs). An approach to design digital controllers for DC/DC converters Is presented. The proposed method, called Power Alignment control technique, is applied to DC/DC step-down choppers operating in continuous conduction or discontinuous conduction modes with CPLs. This approach uses two predefined state variables instead of conventional pulse width modulation (PWM) to regulate the output voltage. A comparator compares actual output voltage with the reference and then switches between the appropriate states. It needs few logic gates and comparators to be implemented thus, making it extremely simple and easy to develop using a low-cost application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for converters with CPLs. Furthermore, stability of the proposed controllers using the small signal analysis as well as the second theorem of Lyapunov is verified. Finally, simulation and analytical results are presented to describe and verify the proposed technique.

  • 본 논문애서는 2단 스위치 구조를 가져는 역률 보상 회로를 적용하여 도통 손실을 저감할 수 있는 새로운 결합형 1단방식 AC/DC half-bridge 컨버터에 대한 토폴라지를 제안하고, 이에 관한 전류 불연속 모드 제어와 소프트 스위칭 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 도통손실의 저감은 기존의 역률 보상 회로 대신 새로운 형태의 이단 스위치 구조를 가지는 역률 보상 회로를 적용함으로써 이루어친다. 제안된 토폴라지의 타당성 검증을 위해서 입력전압 100[V], 출력전압 50[V]의 500[W]급 컨버터에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과를 제시하고 분석하였다.

Carbon Black-Polyethylene복합재료의 Percolation Threshold 전후 저항율에 미치는 온도의 영향 (Effect of the Temperature on Resistivity of Carbon Black-Polyethylene Composites Below and Above Percolation Threshold)

  • Temperature dependency of resistivity of the carbon black-polyethylene composites below and above percolation threshold is studied based on the electrical conduction mechanism. Temperature coefficient of resistance of the composites below percolation threshold changed from minus to plus, increasing volume fraction of carbon black; this trend decreased with increasing volume fraction of carbon black. The temperature dependence of resistivity of the composites below percolation threshold can be explained with a tunneling conduction model by incorporating the effect of thermal expansion of the composites into a tunneling gap. Temperature coefficient of resistance of the composites above percolation threshold was positive and its absolute value increased with increasing volume fraction of carbon black. By assuming that the electrical conduction through percolating paths is a thermally activated process and by incorporating the effect of thermal expansion into the volume fraction of carbon black, the temperature dependency of the resistivity above percolation threshold has been well explained without violating the universal law of conductivity. The apparent activation energy is estimated to be 0.14 eV.

  • This paper presents a novel single-stage high-power-factor electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps operating in critical conduction mode. The proposed topology is based on integration of boost converter as power factor corrector(PFC) and a half-bridge high frequency parallel resonant inverter into a single stage. The input stage of the boost converter is operating in critical conduction mode for positive and negative half cycle voltage respectively at line frequency(60Hz). So that a boost converter makes the line current follow naturally the sinusoidal line voltage waveform. The simulated and experimental results for 100W fluorescent lamps operating at 42kHz switching frequency and 220V line voltage have been obtained. This proposed inverter will be able to be practically used as a power supply in various fields as induction heating applications, fluorescent lamp and DC-DC converter etc.

  • In this paper in order to evaluat quantitavely the formation mechanism of space charge and its effects on the conduction characteristics in LDPE we have carried out the numerical analysis on the basis of experimental results of space charge distribution cathode field and current with time which had been simultaneously measured at applied field of 50kV/mm and room temperature. As the models for numerical analysis we employ the Richarson-Schottky theory for charge injection from electrode into LDPE and the band-tail conduction at crystalline regions and the hopping conduction by traps which mainly exist at the interface regions of crystalline-amorphous region for charge transport in LDPE. Futhermore in order to investigate the influence of physical parameters on the time characteristcs of space charge distribution and measured current we have changed the values of trap density activation energies for charge injection and transport and have analyzed their effects.

CaO에 의하여 부분 안정화된 $ZrO_2$의 고온 전기 전도도에 대한 연구 (Investigation of High Temperature Electrical Conductivity of CaO-partially Stabilized $ZrO_2$)

  • The present work was undertaken: (1) to determine if CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method would show better ionic conductor as an oxygen sensor in molten metals than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method and than CaO-fully stabilized $ZrO_2$, and (2) to understand the nature of conduction mechanism of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ by a comparison of measured electrical conductivity data with theory on defect structure of pure monoclinic $ZrO_2$ and fully stabilized cubic $ZrO_2$. The DC electrical conductivity was measured by 3-probe technique and the AC electrical conductivity by 2-probe technique as a function of temperature in the range 973-1373 K and oxygen partial pressure in the range 10-1-10-25Mpa. The results of the experiments were as follows: 1. CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot petroleum Drying Method showed at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-7-10-25 MPa a nearly ionic conduction with 4 times higher conductivity than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method. 2. High-oxygen pressure conductivity tends toward a Po_2^{+1/5}-Po_2^{+1/6}$dependence. An analysis of possible defect structures suggests that CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ has an anti-Frenkel defect in which singly or doubly ionized oxygen interstitials and defect electrons predominate at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-1-10-7MPa. 3. The activation energy for pure electron hole-conduction and ionic conduction of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ was found to be 130 KJ/mol at T=973-1373 K, $Po_2$=2, 127 10-2 MPa(air) and 153KJ/mol at T=1094-1285 K respectively.

  • To improve latch up characteristics of IGBT, this paper proposed new structure with reverse channel. IGBT proposed by this paper were designed on SOI substrate, $p^+$-substrate, and $n^+$-substrate, respectively. As a result of the simulation, we had achieved high latch up voltage and high conduction current density at IGBT with proposed structure. Latch up voltage of Conventional IGBT was 2.5V but IGBT with proposed structure was latched up at $5{\sim}94V$, respectively. And was showed high conduction current desity($10^4{\sim}10^7A/cm^2$)

  • This paper deals the study of a linear MHD pump solution used to eliminate and to avoid the dangers of the mercury appearing through pollution and contamination. The formulation of the magnetohydrodynamic phenomena is derived from Maxwell and Navier-Stokes equations are solved using the finite volume method. Simulation results highlight the performance of the pump such as the electromagnetic force, the velocity, and the pressure, the application of Ansys-Fluent software validation these results.

PET 필름의 전기적 특성에 미치는 계면효과 (The Effects of Interfacial on the Electrical Properties in PET Films)

  • In this paper, the electrical conduction, breakdown strength and dielectric properties were investigated in the interfaces of PET films. The volume resistivity and breakdown strength were decreased; especially the specimens with semiconductive layer showed the lowest breakdown strength. This decrease of electrical properties was appeared by increasing charge density in inhomogeneous layer of PET. The dielectric properties of PET did not show significant difference with PET/PET but the films with semiconductive interface layer showed the increase in capacitance and $tan\delta$ was affected by the PET rather than semiconductive layer. It is assumed that the variation of $tan\delta$ was affected by the dielectric polarization and the leakage current(charge).

  • A study on the electrical conduction characteristics of the ultrathin organic films is one of the important factors for the development of molecular electronic devices. The Langmuir- Blodgett(LB) technique has recently been attracted interest as a method of the deposition ultrathin films. We hate fabricated N-docosyl N\`-methyl viologen-diTCNQ(DMVT) anion radical LB film and investigated the molecular orientation and electrical conduction characteristics. We have measured infrared transmission-reflection spectra. The alkyl chain is found to he well-ordered with the tilt angle of 13$^{\circ}$ with respect to the substrate surface normal and the TCNQ plane is tilted at 76$^{\circ}$ the surface normal. In ESR spectrum, we confirmed that a half-amplitude linewidth is clearly dependent on the incident angle, which indicates conducting species change. The in-plane conductivity of 31 lagers is approximately 1.33$\times$10$^{-6}$ S/cm. The ohmic behaviour was observed below 0.6 V, when current-voltage(I-V) characteristics was measured verically.
