Static VAR Compensator-Based Voltage Regulation for Variable-Speed Prime Mover Coupled Single- Phase Self-Excited Induction Generator

  • In this paper, the single-phase static VAR compensator (SVC) is applied to regulate and stabilize the generated terminal voltage of the single-phase self-excited induction generator (single-phase SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) under the conditions of the independent inductive load variations and the prime mover speed changes The conventional fixed gain PI controller-based feedback control scheme is employed to adjust the equivalent capacitance of the single-phase SVC composed of the fixed excitation capacitor FC in parallel with the thyristor switched capacitor TSC and the thyristor controlled reactor TCR The feedback closed-loop terminal voltage responses in the single-phase SEIG coupled by a VSPM with different inductive passive load disturbances using the single-phase SVC with the PI controller are considered and discussed herem. A VSPM coupled the single-phase SEIG prototype setup is established. Its experimental results are illustrated as compared with its simulation ones and give good agreements with the digital simulation results for the single-phase SEIG driven by a VSPM, which is based on the SVC voltage regulation feedback control scheme.

  • Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller tuning is an area of interest for researchers in many areas of science and engineering. This paper presents a new algorithm for PID controller tuning based on a combination of bacteria foraging and particle swarm optimization. BFO algorithm has recently emerged as a very powerful technique for real parameter optimization. To overcome delay in an optimization, combine the features of BFOA and PSO for tuning the PID controller. This new algorithm is proposed to combine both the algorithms to get better optimization values. The real time prototype model of paper machine is designed and controlled by using PIC microcontroller embedded with the programming in C language.

  • Recently, the demand for the low cost power conversion equipment is rapidly increased. To develop this three phase voltage source inverter, optimum power conversion equipment to system is designed. The optimum operation method to minimize the power loss also satisfy the life time of the power electronics that is request in the present industry. In this paper, the efficient operating method to change of the acceleration, jerk, and switching frequency in the interval of acceleration is selected to optimize the power loss and life time of the power electronics by using the elevator model. So, we proposed the method that 50[A] rating power electronics is adopted in 9[kW] load.

  • The computation of design parameters and the electromagnetic analysis of 0.5 Mw- class Induction furnace with 3-dimensional modeling are Introduced by using FEM techniques, And model of flux distribution and eddy current distribution induced in induction furnace are analyzed and presented. It is more necessary that for melting industry depending on metal material field, the design technique of induction furnace is quite urgent at exchanging introduction of technology between metal material and electrical energy conversion by power electronics field.

  • LED has been great attentions in lighting industry because of its long life-time, high efficiency, excellent light output characteristics. However, the life-time of the LED driving system is decreased because of the electrolytic capacitor which is used in the power conversion system for driving LED lighting. Therefore the capacitance reduction methods have been studied to replace an electrolytic capacitor with film or tantalum capacitor. This paper presents the Single stage PFC flyback converter with the simplified third harmonic current injection circuit to reduce output capacitance and the proposed system is theoretically analyzed and verified through the experiment.

  • For the optimal design of the induction heating cooker, precise and accurate analysis of the magnetic field inside the jar must be achieved first. Until now, design methods based on experience has been used in industry field. But this takes a lot of trial and error, high cost and also long development time. So the analysis of the magnetic field distribution is very important. In this paper the magnetic field inside the induction heating cooker is analyzed by using axisymmetrical FEM(finite element method). And the method of the coil location design for the optimal heat source distribution using sensitivity analysis is developed. In addition, the shielding effect of the non-axisymmetrical 3-D ferrite structure used in induction heating cooker is also analyzed by the integral method.

  • The last decade has witnessed great improvements in power semiconductor devices thanks to the advanced design and process, which have made it possible to significantly improve the electrical performances of electronic systems while simultaneously reducing their site, weight and perhaps most importantly reducing their cost. Among the power semiconductor devices, IGBT will be a key semiconductor component for power industry since it has a huge potential to cover large areas of power electronics from small home appliances to heavy industries. Currently, only a few limited power semiconductor manufacturers supply most of the industrial consumptions of power IGBT and its modules. Therefore, a large portion of technology in the power industry is dependent on other advanced countries. In this regard, to independently build power IGBT devices and the relevant power module technology, Korean government initiated a new 5-year project 'Power IT,' which also aimed at booming the business of the power semiconductor and the allied industries. With the success of this power IT project, it is expected that the power semiconductor technology will be a basis to foster the high power semiconductor industry and moreover, there will be more innovative developments in the Korea region and globally Also, forming the channel between the customers and suppliers, it is possible to effectively develop the customized power products, which could strengthen the competitiveness of Korean power industry. Furthermore, the power industry including semiconductor manufacturers will be technologically self-supporting and be able to obtain good business opportunities, and eventually increase the share in the growing power semiconductor market, which could be positioned as a major industry in Korea.

Experimental Characterization-Based Signal Integrity Verification of Sub-Micron VLSI Interconnects

  • Interconnect characterization on a wafer level was performed. Test patterns for single, two-coupled, and triple-coupled lines ere designed by using 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS process. Then interconnect capacitances and resistances were experimentally extracted by using tow port network measurements, Particularly to eliminate parasitic effects, the Y-parameter de-embedding was performed with specially designed de-embedding patterns. Also, for the purpose of comparisons, capacitance matrices were calculated by using the existing CAD model and field-solver-based commercial simulator, METAL and MEDICI. This work experimentally verifies that existing CAD models or parameter extraction may have large deviation from real values. The signal transient simulation with the experimental data and other methodologies such as field-solver-based simulation and existing model was performed. as expected, the significantly affect on the signal delay and crosstalk. The signal delay due to interconnects dominates the sub-micron-based a gate delay (e.g., inverter). Particularly, coupling capacitance deviation is so large (about more than 45% in the worst case) that signal integrity cannot e guaranteed with the existing methodologies. The characterization methodologies of this paper can be very usefully employed for the signal integrity verification or he electrical design rule establishments of IC interconnects in the industry.
