  • (Ba$\sub$0.6-x/Sr$\sub$0.4/Ca$\sub$x/)TiO$_3$(x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20) specimens were fabricated by the solid state reaction method and then the structural and dielectric properties as a function of the composition ratio and sintering temperature were studied. The BSCT(50/40/10) specimen sintered at 1500$^{\circ}C$ showed the highest average grain size(18.25 ${\mu}$m). The Curie temperature and dielectric constant at room temperature decreased with increasing Ca content. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the BSCT(50/40/10) specimen, sintered at 1450$^{\circ}C$, were about 4324 and 0.972% at 1KHz, respectively. Dielectric constant at room temperature decreased with increasing an applied field, tunability of the BSCT(50/40/10) sintered at 1300$^{\circ}C$ was 18%.

Characterization of BST Thin Films using MgO(100) Buffer Layer for Tunable Device

  • In this paper, we have investigated the structure and dielectric properties of the $(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$ (BST) thin films fabricated on MgO(100)/Si substrate by an alkoxide-based sol-gel method. Both the structure and morphology of those films were analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM). For the MgO(100)/Si substrate, the BST thin films exhibited highly (100) orientation. The highly (100)-oriented BST thin films showed high dielectric constant, tunability, and figure of merit (FOM). The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and tunability of the BST thin films annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ deposited on the MgO(100)/Si substrate measured at 10 kHz were 515.9, 0.0082, and 54.3%, respectively.

  • In this study, in order to develop the capacitor composition ceramics with the good dielectric properties, $(Ba_{0.86}Ca_{0.14})(Ti_{0.85}Zr_{0.12}Sn_{0.03})O_3+xCuO$ (x= 0.006~0.010) ceramics were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The effects of CuO addition on the microstructure and dielectric properties was investigated. All specimens indicated rhombohedral phase without any secondary phase. As CuO addition increased, the variation width of TCC was increased at more than $40^{\circ}C$. Also, the specimen with x=0.007 sintered at $1,250^{\circ}C$ showed the high dielectric constant of 9,632 in spite of low temperature sintering temperature.

Electrical and Dielectric Properties, and Accelerated Aging Characteristics of Lanthania Doped Zinc Oxide Varistors

  • The microstructure, electrical and dielectric properties, and stability against DC accelerated aging stress of the varistors, which are composed of quaternary system $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}CoO-Cr_2O_3-based$ ceramics, were investigated for different $La_2O_3$ contents. The increase of $La_2O_3$ content led to more densified ceramics, whereas abruptly decreased the nonlinear properties by incorporating beyond 1.0mol%. The highest nonlinearity was obtained from 0.5mol% $La_2O_3$, with the nonlinear coefficient of 81.6 and the leakage current of $0.1{\mu}A$. The varistors doped with 0.5mol% $La_2O_3$ exhibited high stability, in which the variation rates of breakdown voltage, nonlinear coefficient, leakage current, dielectric constant, and dissipation factor were -1.1%, -3.7%, +100%, +1.4%, and +8.2%, respectively, for stressing state of $0.95V_{1mA}/150^{\circ}C/24h$.

  • The crystalline and dielectric properties on Al$_2$O$_3$ filled glass frit (CaO-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$-MgO-B$_2$O$_3$) with admixtures of TiO$_2$ have been investigated. The dielectric constant value of 7.5 ∼ 7.8, qualify factor value of 700 were obtained for glass frit : Al$_2$O$_3$(50 : 50 wt%) ceramics. Addition of TiO$_2$ less than 5 wt% slightly increased the dielectric constant from 7.8 to 8.8 due to higher dielectric constant of TiO$_2$. With increasing the amount of TiO$_2$ up to 5 wt%, the temperature coefficient of dielectric properties was improved. When the TiO$_2$ 5 wt% were added, dielectric properties were dielectric constant 8.8, quality factor 840 and the temperature coefficient of dielectric 45 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ at a sintering temperature 920$^{\circ}C$.

Stabilization of the Perovskite Phase and Electrical Properties of Ferroelectrics in the Pb2(Sc,Nb)O6 System

  • Ferroelectric $Pb_2(Sc,Nb)O_6$ were prepared under two different sintering conditions using the oxide mixing method and the electrical properties were measured. The sintering conditions were $1350^{\circ}C$ for 25 minutes and $1400^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes. EDX spectroscopy and XRD were used to determine the crystalline characteristic of the $Pb_2(Sc,Nb)O_6$ compositions Pyrochlore phase showed about 2% in all $Pb_2(Sc,Nb)O_6$ specimens. It expands the growth of crystals in samples sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ than $1350^{\circ}C$, but all samples were the optimal crystallization. The temperature and frequency dependence of the complex dielectric constant and admittance were measured to analyze the electrical properties. The high dielectric constant of the specimens reflects the good stoichiometry and crystallization. The maximum value of the dielectric constant in the two specimens treated with sintering at $1350^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$ were more than 27,000, and the dielectric loss at room temperature is smaller than 0.05. The maximum dielectric constant decreased with increasing frequency, the transition temperature also increased in $Pb_2(Sc,Nb)O_6$ compositions. The admittance and susceptance values reach a peak at all temperatures, and the magnitude of the peak increases with increasing measuring temperature. Strong frequency dependent of maximum admittance, susceptance, dielectric constant and dielectric loss were observed.

Dielectric Properties of Polymer-ceramic Composites for Embedded Capacitors

  • Ceramic-polymer composites have been investigated for their suitability as embedded capacitor materials because they combine the processing ability of polymers with the desired dielectric properties of ceramics. This paper discusses the dielectric properties of the ceramic ($BaTiO_3$)-polymer (Epoxy) composition as a function of ceramic particle size at a ceramic loading of 40 vol%. The dielectric constant of these ceramic-polymer composites increases as the powder size decreases. Results show that ceramic-polymer composites have a high dielectric constant associated with the $BaTiO_3$ powder with a 200 nm particle size, high insulation resistance, high breakdown voltage (> 22 KV/mm), and low dielectric loss (0.018-0.024) at 1 MHz.

Eu 첨가에 따른 PZT 박막의 강유전 특성 (Ferroelectirc Properties of Eu-doped PZT Thin Films)

  • Eu-doped lead zirconate titanate(Pb$\sub$1.1/(Zr$\sub$0.6/Ti$\sub$0.4/)O$_3$; PZT) thin films on the Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates prepared by a sol-gel method. The effect on structural and electrical properties of PZT thin films measured according to the Eu content. Eu-doping altered significantly dielectric and ferroelectric properties. The remanent polarization and the coercive field decreased with the increasing Eu content. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss of PZT thin films decreased with the increasing Eu content. The 0.5 mol% of Eu-doped PZT thin film showed improved fatigue characteristic comparing to the undoped PZT thin film.

Spin-on Dielectric 막의 전기적 특성에 미치는 전구체의 영향 (Effects of Precursor on the Electrical Properties of Spin-on Dielectric Films)

  • Polysilazane and silazane-based precursor films were deposited on stacked TiN/Ti/TEOS/Si-substrate by spin-coating, then annealed at $150{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, integrated further to form the top electrode and pad, and finally characterized. The precursor solutions were composed of 20% perhydro-polysilazane ($SiH_2NH$)n, and 20% hydropolymethyl silazane ($SiHCH_3NH$)n in dibutyl ether. Annealing of the precursor films led to the compositional change of the two chemicals into silicon (di)oxides, which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra. It is thought that the different results that were obtained originated from the fact that the two precursors, despite having the same synthetic route and annealing conditions, had different chemical properties. Electrical measurement indicated that under 0.6MV/cm, a larger capacitance of $2.776{\times}10^{-11}$ F and a lower leakage current of 0.4 pA were obtained from the polysilazane-based dielectric films, as compared to $9.457{\times}10^{-12}$ F and 2.4 pA from the silazane-based film, thus producing a higher dielectric constant of 5.48 compared to 3.96. FTIR indicated that these superior electrical properties are directly correlated to the amount of Si-O bonds and the improved chemical bonding structures of the spin-on dielectric films, which were derived from a precursor without C. The chemical properties of the precursor films affected both the formation and the electrical properties of the spin-on dielectric film.

  • This study investigates a new organic based material and its dielectric and mechanical properties. It is a comprehensive nanocomposite comprising a combination of various types of nanofillers with hydrophobic silica nanoparticles (AEROSIL R 974) as a matrix modifier and a polyamide nano nonwoven textile, Ultramid-Polyamide 6, pulped in the electrostatic field as a dielectric barrier. The polymer matrix is an epoxy network based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and cycloaliphatic diamine (Laromine C260). The designed nanocomposite material is an alternative to the conventional three-component composites containing fiberglass and mica with properties that exceed current electroinsulating systems (volume resistivity on the order of $10^{16}{\Omega}{\cdot}m$, dissipation factor tan ${\delta}=4.7{\cdot}10^{-3}$, dielectric strength 39 kV/mm).
