  • The electric snow melting and deicing system by electric heating cable which is adopted in this study is a part of road facilities to keep surface temperature of the road higher than freezing point of water for melting the snow or ice accumulated on it. The electric heating cables are buried under paved road at a certain depth and a certain pitch and operated automatically and manually. Design theory, amount of heating, and installation standard vary according to economic situation, weather condition, and installation place. A main purpose of this study is figuring out the appropriate range of required heat capacity and installation depth and pitches for solving snowdrifts and freezing problems with minimum electric power consumption. This study was performed under the ambient air temperature($-2^{\circ}C$, $-5^{\circ}C$), the pitches of the electric heating cables (200 mm, 300 mm), heating value ($250\;W/m^2$, $300\;W/m^2$, $350\;W/m^2$).

  • In this paper, when electric train is in dead-section the effect on electric train system was dealt. The feeding system of electrical railway is AC or DC. When the electric train is passed AC feeding system to DC, vice versa or phase is changed in between AC feeding systems, there is a dead section. A dead section usually makes the electrical system complex md may have an adverse effect on the electrical system inside the train. Accordingly, it is important to analyze the effect on trains in dead-section. Modeling an electric train and simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC was accomplished to analyze how power quality problem such as inverter switching surge is propagated to electric train through the feeding line, railway, pantograph.

  • This paper describes the safety condition of power utilities installed on underground premises when flooding occurs. As advance preparations, the statistical data were investigated based on the rainfall trend; the flooding damage; the power utilities installation; the electric shock accidents, and domestic md foreign regulations pertaining to the power utilities installation on underground premises were also compared and analyzed. After the preliminaries, the safety condition of underground power utilities was inspected at site and the results were reflected on considering countermeasures. Based on the further studies, the regulations closely related to the underground power utilities installation can be modified.

  • A distributed FBG temperature sensor system was constructed for the use in protection of electric power system. A F-P wavelength tunable filter is used converting temperature-induced wavelength variations to temporal peak locations. We used Gaussian line-fitted algorithm to alleviate the error caused by quantization and electrical noises. The experimental results showed much better accuracy than the raw peak-detection scheme.

  • Owing to WTO/TBT, Many countries are trying to accord their own various national codes and standards with international standards. Also Korean electric power code is being made consistent with the new standards which include the international standards. The new code will affect the many aspects of building construction. In order to cope with the change of the electric power code, this paper analyzed the trend of the international standard(IEC 60364, IEC 61024) and we think this study will help engineers to understand the international electrical standards.

  • KEPCO has completed the installation and demonstration of a 52 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) for frequency regulation. Especially, 24 MW BESS is for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in Shin-Yongin substation. Recently, KEPCO Research Institute has operated it connected to EMS of KPX. This paper discussed the operation strategy of EMS through a study on using 24 MW BESS in AGC operation and propose the improvement of AGC target. It is expected that this paper helps a safe and reliable operation and control of ESS for AGC through its continuous update.

  • In this paper we present development process and results of some cases for underground pad transformer and switchgear. Some characteristic factors was considered and tested to improve the functions of the case, such as natural convection of cooling air between the internal and external cases, properties of material that used as external panel etc. Proposed designs and functional characteristics will be adapted to making the cases of underground facilities after the elaborated tests. The results obtained from this study will improve the scenery of a street.

  • The paper presents methods of determining the capacity and installation positions of regenerative inverters installed in DC 1500V electric railway system. We suggested a method that approximates using parameters related to substations where regenerative inverters are installed, railway lines and operating motor cars, and another that calculates using regenerative power obtained from Train performance Simulation (TPS) and Power Flow Simulation (PFS). We carried out TPS and PFS for Seoul Subway Line $5{\sim}8$, calculating regenerative power and determining substations where regenerative inverters would be installed and the optimal capacity and number of inverters to be installed.
