  • Arc Fault Current is an electric discharge which is occurred in two opposite electrode. In this paper, AFCI(arc fault circuit interrupter) is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which is occurred in the local electric network. This arc is one of the main causes of electric fire. Arc fault in electrical network has the characteristics of low current, high impedance and high frequency. Conventional arc fault circuit interrupter does not have the arc current interrupt function. Hence, Arc current controller is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which has the modified arc characteristics.

  • In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid flow in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a $\kappa-\epsilon$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. From these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.

  • Due to the high dependence on electric energy, electric fires make up a significant portion of fires in Korea. Electric arcs by short circuits or poor contact cause three of four electrical fires. An electric arc is a discharge phenomenon of electrical current between the insulators, which instantaneously produces high temperature. In order to reduce the fire due to electric arc, this study aims to predict the electric arc risk. We collected arc data from the arc detectors and converted into graphs based on temporal arc data. We used machine learning for training converted graph with different number of temporal arc data. To measure the performance of the learning model, we use the test data. In the results, when the number of temporal arc data was 20, the prediction rate was high as 86%.

  • This paper presents the results of the application of a computational fluid dynamics algorithm for the simulation of plasma flows of arc-heated jet. The underlying physical model is based on the axisymmetric form of the conservation equations that are coupled with an arc model including Ohm heating, electromagnetic forces. The arc model given as a source term in fluid dynamic equations is determined by a solution of electric potential field governed by an elliptic partial differential equation. The governing equation of electric field is loosely coupled with fluid dynamic equations by an electric conductivity that is a function of state variables. However, the electric fields and flow fields cannot be solved In fully coupled manner, but should be solved iteratively due to the different characteristics of governing equations. With this solution approach, several applications of arc flow analysis will be presented including Arc Thruster and Circuit Breaker.

  • This paper proposes an arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) using the distorted voltage wave in electric arc faults. It perceives a voltage instantaneously at the time of voltage drop. and occurrence. It is an AFCI of the new concept which operates with high reliability. The primary reason of electric fire is arc and spark. It prevents an electric fire or an electric leakage accident with quick responsiveness. Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker(ELB), Molded_case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) or Residual Current Protective Device(RCD) can not cut off electric arc or spark to be a major factor of electrical fire. This theory will be able to intercept an arc or a spark. which occurrence with periodic. Consequently It raises a reliability and validates a practicality of RCD.

  • The EMP slip rate was compared with the general concrete using the electric arc furnace slag as an aggregate. Experimental results show that the shielding rate of concrete specimens using electric arc furnace slag increases. It is considered that the shielding rate is increased due to the high Fe content in the components of the electric arc furnace slag aggregate.

Utilization of Electric Arc furnace Slag md Converter Slag after Aging for Concrete Aggregate (콘크리트용 골재로서 에이징처리한 제강슬래그외 활용)

  • Electric arc furnace and converter slag are produced by about 6 millions tons in Korea at 2000 year. But compared with blast furnace slag, those are utilized only in unvalued material like landfill and road construction. There are unstable materials, like free CaO, in electric arc furnace and converter slag at steel-manufacturing process. This might cause volume expansion in concrete, if electric arc furnace and converter slag aggregates were used in concrete. This expansion may reach to crack or collapse of concrete. It is therefore settled by standard specification for concrete that electric arc furnace and converter slag aggregates have not to use in concrete. First of all, volume stability and stabilized process should be solved in electric arc furnace and converter slag aggregate to use in concrete. In this study, 6 types of aging are evaluated for effects of stabilization to reduce the expansion of electric arc furnace and converter slag. h converter slag aggregate, these types of aging are not good for volume stability for concrete aggregate, and even if converter slag aggregate is treated with aging, concrete with it has some problems that strength is reduced with curing days. But in electric arc furnace slag aggregate treated with hotwater and steam aging, the expansion of electric arc furnace slag aggregate is reduced about two times than that of converter slag aggregate, and electric arc furnace slag aggregate concrete has good results in strength compared with control concrete using crushed stone.
