A new solution for the dynamic analysis of as asphalt concrete pavements under moving loads has been developed. The asphalt concrete pavement can be modeled in elastic or viscoelastic medium of multi-layered structure. The subgrade can be modeled as either a rigid base or a semi-infinite halfspace. The loads may be constant or arbitrary circular loads into one direction. The method utilizes the Complex Response Method of transient analysis with a continuum solution in the horizontal direction and a finite-element solution in the vertical direction. This proposed method incorporates such important factors as wave propagation, inertia and damping effects of the medium as well as frequency-dependent asphalt concrete properties. The proposed method has been validted with the full-scale field truck test, which was conducted on instrumented asphalt concrete section on a test track at PACCAR Technical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington. Comparison with field strain data from full-scale pavement tests has shown excellent agreement. Theoretical results have shown that the effect of vehicle speed is significant and that it is in part due to the frequency-dependent

This paper aims to study vibration characteristics of chiral and zigzag double-walled carbon nanotubes entrenched on Donnell shell model. The Eringen's nonlocal elastic equations are being combined with Donnell shell theory to observe small scale response. Wave propagation is proposed technique to establish field equations of model subjected to four distinct end supports. A nonlocal model has been formulated to explore the frequency spectrum of both chiral and zigzag double-walled CNTs along with diversity of indices and nonlocal parameter. The significance of scale effect in relevance of length-to-diameter and thickness- to- radius ratios are discussed and displayed in detail. The numerical solution based on this nonlocal Donnell shell model can be further used to predict other frequency phenomena of double-walled and multi-walled CNTs.

In this paper a computational method is presented to solve the plane problem of wave propagation in linear-elastic plate with zones of different materials. An existing numerical scheme of bicharacteristics for rectangular plate is extended to plates with curvilinear boundaries. In order to show the validity of the employed concept, it is necessary to examine the numerical results whether they reproduce the well-known physical phenomena of stress waves. It seems also desirable to make a comparison between the numerical results and appropriate experimental results for plates with curvilinear boundaries. Also studied are the focusing phenomena induced by reflection and refraction at curved outer boundaries and material interfaces.
In this paper, frequency vibrations of double-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been investigated based upon nonlocal elastic theory. The inference of small scale is being perceived by establishing nonlocal Love shell model. The wave propagation approach has been operated to frame the governing equations as eigen value system. An innovational nonlocal model to examine the scale effect on vibrational behavior of armchair, zigzag and chiral of double-walled CNTs. An appropriate selection of material properties and nonlocal parameter has been considered. The influence of dimensionless nonlocal parameter has been studied in detail. The dominance of end condition via nonlocal parameter is explained graphically. The results generated furnish the evidence regarding applicability of nonlocal shell model and also verified by earlier published literature.

This study was conducted to examine the differences between dynamic and static elastic constants by use of some laboratory tests of cement mortar specimens which have different water/cement mixing ratios. Specific gravity measurement, ultrasonic velocity estimating and uniaxial compression test were adopted to acquire the dynamic and static elastic constants. Digital data acquisition and processing enhanced the accuracy of estimating the velocities of specimens drastically, Also, the method using the gradient of propagation delay time in according to increment of specimen length more enhanced the accuracy than the method using the only one specimen length over total propagation time. The correlation between density and the P and S wave velocity of specimens shows reliable positive relation and the correlation between density and the strength of uniaxial compression has the similar relationship. The dynamic Young's modulus $(E_D)$ is alway greater than the static Young's modulus $(E_S)$ and there is increasing tendency of the ratio $(E_D/E_S)$ according to the increase of density or strength of the specimens. On the other hand, there is no typical relationship between dynamic Poisson's ratio $({\nu}_D)$ and static Poisson's ratio $({\nu}_S)$ and just the ratio of ${\nu}_D/{\nu}_S$ ranges front 69 to 122 %.

This work reports the results of our study on the dynamic response of various buried pipelines depending on their boundary conditions. We have studied behavior of the buried pipelines both along the axial and the transverse direction. The buried pipelines are modeled as beams on elastic foundation while the seismic wave as a ground displacement in the form of a sinusoidal wave. The natural frequency, its mode, and the effect of parameters have been interpreted in terms of free vibration. In order to investigate the response on the ground wave, the resulting frequency and the mode shape obtained from the free vibration have been utilized to derive the mathematical formula for the forced vibration. The natural frequency varies most significantly by the soil stiffness and the length of the buried pipelines in the case of free vibration. The effects of the propagation direction and velocity and the frequency of ground wave on the dynamic responses of concrete, steel, and FRP pipes have been analyzed and then dynamic responses depending on the type of pipes have been compared. Through performing dynamic analyser for various boundary conditions and estimation of the location of maximum strain has been estimated for the type of pipes and boundary conditions.

Active thermography has been used for several years in the field of remote non-destructive testing. It provides thermal images for remote detection and imaging of damages. Also, it is based on propagation and reflection of thermal waves which are launched from the surface into the inspected component by absorption of modulated radiation. For energy deposition, it use external heat sources (e.g., halogen lamp or convective heating) or internal heat generation (e.g., microwaves, eddy current, or elastic wave). Among the external heat sources, the ultrasound is generally used for energy deposition because of defect selective heating up. The heat source generating a thermal wave is provided by the defect itself due to the attenuation of amplitude modulated ultrasound. A defect causes locally enhanced losses and consequently selective heating up. Therefore amplitude modulation of the injected ultrasonic wave turns a defect into a thermal wave transmitter whose signal is detected at the surface by thermal infrared camera. This way ultrasound thermography(UT) allows for selective defect detection which enhances the probability of defect detection in the presence of complicated intact structures. In this paper the applicability of UT for fast defect detection is described. Examples are presented showing the detection of defects in PCB material. Measurements are performed on various kinds of typical defects in PCB materials (both Cu metal and non-metal epoxy). The obtained thermal image reveals area of defect in row of thick epoxy material and PCB.
In the elastic wave equations, both horizontal and vertical displacements are defined. Since we can measure both the horizontal and vertical displacements in field acquisition, these displacements compose a displacement vector. In this study, we propose a frequency-domain elastic waveform inversion technique taking advantage of the magnitudes of displacement vectors to define objective function. When we apply this displacement-vector objective function to the frequency-domain waveform inversion, the inversion process naturally incorporates the back-propagation algorithm. Through the inversion examples with the Marmousi model and the SEG/EAGE salt model, we could note that the RMS error of the solution obtained by our algorithm decreased more stably than that of the conventional method. Particularly, the density of the Marmousi model and the low-velocity sub-salt zone of the SEG/EAGE salt model were successfully recovered. Since the gradient direction obtained from the proposed objective function is numerically unstable, we need additional study to stabilize the gradient direction. In order to perform the waveform inversion using the displacementvector objective function, it is necessary to acquire multi-component data. Hence, more rigorous study should be continued for the multi-component land acquisition or OBC (Ocean Bottom Cable) multi-component survey.
In this paper, three-dimensional (3D) elasticity theory in conjunction with nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) is developed for mechanical analysis of anisotropic nanoparticles. The present model incorporates two scale coefficients to examine the mechanical characteristics much accurately. All the elastic constants are considered and assumed to be the functions of (r, ${\theta}$, ${\varphi}$), so all kind of anisotropic structures can be modeled. Moreover, all types of functionally graded spherical structures can be investigated. To justify our model, our results for the radial vibration of spherical nanoparticles are compared with experimental results available in the literature and great agreement is achieved. Next, several examples of the radial vibration and wave propagation in spherical nanoparticles including nonlocal strain gradient parameters are presented for more than 10 different anisotropic nanoparticles. From the best knowledge of authors, it is the first time that 3D elasticity theory and NSGT are used together with no approximation to derive the governing equations in the spherical coordinate. Moreover, up to now, the NSGT has not been used for spherical anisotropic nanoparticles. It is also the first time that all the 36 elastic constants as functions of (r, ${\theta}$, ${\varphi}$) are considered for anisotropic and functionally graded nanostructures including size effects. According to the lack of any common approximations in the displacement field or in elastic constant, present theory can be assumed as a benchmark for future works.
