Free vibration of symmetric angle-ply layered conical shell frusta of variable thickness is analyzed under shear deformation theory with different boundary conditions by applying collocation with spline approximation. Linear and exponential variation in thickness of layers are assumed in axial direction. Displacements and rotational functions are approximated by Bickley-type splines of order three and obtained a generalized eigenvalue problem. This problem is solved numerically for an eigenfrequency parameter and an associated eigenvector of spline coefficients. The vibration of three and five-layered conical shells, made up of two different type of materials are considered. Parametric studies are made for analysing the frequencies of the shell with respect to the coefficients of thickness variations, length-to-radius ratio, length-to-thickness ratio and ply angles with different combination of the materials. The results are compared with the available data and new results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.
This paper is concerned with the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate with a rectangular hole. Even though there have been many methods developed for the addressed problem, they suffer from computational time. In this paper, we developed a new methodology called Independent Coordinate Coupling Method which can couple two independent coordinate systems for the entire plate domain and the hole. By matching the deflection condition imposed on the expressions, the relationship between the global axes and the local axes is derived. This formula is then used for the calculation of the eigenvalue problem. The numerical results show the efficacy of the proposed method.
Dynamic characteristics are investigated when a nonlinear system showing periodic and chaotic responses under harmonic excitation is exposed to random perturbation. About two well potential problem, probability of homoclinic bifurcation is estimated using stochastic generalized Meinikov process and quantitive characteristics are investigated by calculation of Lyapunov exponent. Critical excitaion is calculated by various assumptions about Gaussian Melnikov process. To verify the phenomenon graphically Fokker-Planck equation is solved numerically and the original nonlinear equation is numerically simulated. Numerical solution of Fokker-Planck equation is calculated on Poincare section and noise induced chaos is studied by solving the eigenvalue problem of discretized probability density function.
An analysis has been given for the effect of viscous dissipation on the thermal instability of plane Couette flow between two parallel plates maintained at different constant temperatures. Under the assumption that the principle of the exchange of stabilities holds, stationary disturbance quantities in the form of longitudinal vortices are considered. The magnitudes of disturbance quantities are then represented as fast convergent power series so that the eigenvalue problem for determining the onset conditions of the thermal instability may be reduced to a simplified problem of finding the roots of a $4{\times}4$ determinant. It is shown that as the magnitude of the visucous dissipation increases the flow becomes more susceptible to instabilities, which is in very good agreement with previous results obtained in some related researches.
A GN model with and without energy dissipations is used to discuss the waves propagation in a two-dimension orthotropic half space by the eigenvalues approach. Using the Laplace-Fourier integral transforms to get the solutions of the problem analytically, the basic formulations of the two-dimension problem are given by matrices-vectors differential forms, which are then solved by the eigenvalues scheme. Numerical techniques are used for the inversion processes of the Laplace-Fourier transform. The results for physical quantities are represented graphically. The numerical outcomes show that the characteristic time of pulse heat flux have great impacts on the studied fields values.
Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of space signals is a basic problem in array signal processing. DOA estimation based on the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm can theoretically overcome the Rayleigh limit and achieve super resolution. However, owing to its inadequate real-time performance and accuracy in practical engineering applications, its applications are limited. To address this problem, in this study, a DOA estimation algorithm with high parallelism and precision based on an analysis of the characteristics of complex matrix eigenvalue decomposition and the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm is proposed. For parallel and single precision, floating-point numbers are used to construct an orthogonal identity matrix. Thus, the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm are guaranteed. Furthermore, the accuracy and computation of the fixed-point algorithm, double-precision floating-point algorithm, and proposed algorithm are compared. Without increasing complexity, the proposed algorithm can achieve remarkably higher accuracy and efficiency than the fixed-point algorithm and double-precision floating-point calculations, respectively.
We reconstruct the assembly pinwise flux using several types of boundary conditions and confirm that the reconstructed fluxes are the same with the reference flux if the boundary condition is exact. We test EPRI-9R benchmark problem with four boundary conditions, such as Dirichlet boundary condition, Neumann boundary condition, homogeneous mixed boundary condition (albedo type), and inhomogeneous mixed boundary condition. We also test reconstruction of the pinwise flux from nodal values, specifically from the AFEN [1, 2] results. From the nodal flux distribution we obtain surface flux and surface current distributions, which can be used to construct various types of boundary conditions. The result show that the Neumann boundary condition cannot be used for iterative schemes because of its ill-conditioning problem and that the other three boundary conditions give similar accuracy. The Dirichlet boundary condition requires the shortest computing time. The inhomogeneous mixed boundary condition requires only slightly longer computing time than the Dirichlet boundary condition, so that it could also be an alternative. In contrast to the fixed-source type problem resulting from the Dirichlet, Neumann, inhomogeneous mixed boundary conditions, the homogeneous mixed boundary condition constitutes an eigenvalue problem and requires longest computing time among the three (Dirichlet, inhomogeneous mixed, homogeneous mixed) boundary condition problems.
This article presents a new global-local hybrid coarse-mesh finite difference (HCMFD) method for efficient parallel calculation of pin-by-pin heterogeneous core analysis. In the HCMFD method, the one-node coarse-mesh finite difference (CMFD) scheme is combined with a nodal expansion method (NEM)-based two-node CMFD method in a nonlinear way. In the global-local HCMFD algorithm, the global problem is a coarse-mesh eigenvalue problem, whereas the local problems are fixed source problems with boundary conditions of incoming partial current, and they can be solved in parallel. The global problem is formulated by one-node CMFD, in which two correction factors on an interface are introduced to preserve both the surface-average flux and the net current. Meanwhile, for accurate and efficient pin-wise core analysis, the local problem is solved by the conventional NEM-based two-node CMFD method. We investigated the numerical characteristics of the HCMFD method for a few benchmark problems and compared them with the conventional two-node NEM-based CMFD algorithm. In this study, the HCMFD algorithm was also parallelized with the OpenMP parallel interface, and its numerical performances were evaluated for several benchmarks.

In this manuscript, static and dynamic behaviors of geometrically imperfect carbon nanotubes (CNTs) subject to different types of end conditions are investigated. The Doublet Mechanics (DM) theory, which is length scale dependent theory, is used in the analysis. The Euler-Bernoulli kinematic and nonlinear mid-plane stretching effect are considered through analysis. The governing equation of imperfect CNTs is a sixth order nonlinear integro-partial-differential equation. The buckling problem is discretized via the differential-integral-quadrature method (DIQM) and then it is solved using Newton's method. The equation of linear vibration problem is discretized using DIQM and then solved as a linear eigenvalue problem to get natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes. The DIQM results are compared with analytical ones available in the literature and excellent agreement is obtained. The numerical results are depicted to illustrate the influence of length scale parameter, imperfection amplitude and shear foundation constant on critical buckling load, post-buckling configuration and linear vibration behavior. The current model is effective in designing of NEMS, nano-sensor and nano-actuator manufactured by CNTs.
