  • This paper is concerned with eigenvalues of second-order vector equations on time scales with boundary value conditions. Properties of eigenvalues and matrix-valued solutions are studied. Relationships between eigenvalues of different boundary value problems are discussed.

  • We provide a complete proof that there are no eigenvalues of the integral operator ${\mathcal{K}}_l$ outside the interval (0, 1/k). ${\mathcal{K}}_l$ arises naturally from the deflection problem of a beam with length 2l resting horizontally on an elastic foundation with spring constant k, while some vertical load is applied to the beam.

  • Breakthrough of high Weisenberg number problem is related with keeping the positive definiteness of the conformation tensor in numerical procedures. In this paper, we suggest a simple method to preserve the positive definiteness by use of vector decomposition of the conformation tensor which does not require eigenvalue problem. We also derive the constitutive equation of tensor-logarithmic transform in simpler way than that of Fattal and Kupferman and discuss the comparison between the vector decomposition and tensor-logarithmic transformation.

  • Abstract-Using the recursive generalized eigendecomposition method, we develop a recursive form solution to the data least squares (DLS) problem, in which the error is assumed to lie in the data matrix only. Simulations demonstrate that DLS outperforms ordinary least square for certain types of deconvolution problems.

  • A full multigrid scheme was used in computing some eigenvalues of the Laplace eigenvalues problem with the Dirichlet bound-ary condition. We get a system of algebraic equations with an aid of finite difference method and apply subspace iteration method to the system to compute first some eigenvalues. The result shows that this is very effective in calculating some eigenvalues of this problem.

  • In usual synchronous parallel computing, workload balance is a crucial factor to reduce idle times of some processors that have finished their jobs earlier than others. However, it is difficult to achieve on a heterogeneous workstation clusters where the available computing power of each processor is unpredictable. As a way to overcome such a problem, the idea of asynchronous methods has grown out and is being increasingly used and studied, but there is none for eigenvalue problems yet. In this paper, we suggest a new asynchronous method to solve some singular matrix problems, that can also be used for finding a certain eigenvector of some matrices.

  • This paper deals with the problem of a ratio-dependent prey- predator model with combined harvesting. The existence of steady states and their stability are studied using eigenvalue analysis. Boundedness of the exploited system is examined. We derive conditions for persistence and global stability of the system. The possibility of existence of bionomic equilibria has been considered. The problem of optimal harvest policy is then solved by using Pontryagin's maximal principle.

  • This paper proposes an impulse response shortening algorithm applicable to decision feedback equalization of single carrier wideband signal. When he impulse response shortening methods for narrowband signaling are applied to single carrier wideband signals, they result in noise enhancement problem, significantly deterioriting the receiver performance. This problem can be alleviated by educing the eigenvalue spread ratio of the impulse response, which can be achieved by adding additive white noise with small variance to the impulse response of the channel. The performance of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this paper we consider a Dirichlet problem in the unit disk. We show that the equation has a unique or multiple solutions according to the range of the parameter. Moreover, we prove that the equation admits a nonradial bifurcation at each branch of radial solutions.
