  • The authors reared the ash-gray leaf bug, Piesma maculata in the growth cabinet controlled as temperature groups of $15, 20, 25, 30, 40^{\circ}C$under condition of photoperiod 16L:8D, light intensity $510{\pm}240$ lus, relative humidity $65{\pm}3%$, and analyzed the effects of temperature on the development of the insect. The results are summarized as follow: There are highly significant differences the developmental periods for the temperature groups, and between the developmental periods for the developmental stages. The egg in the temperature of 15 and $40^{\circ}C$ was hatched, but the ecdysis was impossible. The thermal threshold was $12.34^{\circ}C$and the upper lethal temperature $40.39^{\circ}C$. The total developmental periods of egg to adulate in the temperature of 20, 25, 30 and $35^{\circ}C$are 40.52, 22.37, 15.91 and 13.00 days, respectively. That is, the developmental period was decreased, as the temperature was increased. In the developmental period for the developmental stages, the developmental period of egg stage was longer than that of 25, 30 and $35^{\circ}C$, and that of 25。C was longer than that of $35^{\circ}C$. But ther was not significant differences between the developmental periods for the other temperature group. The rate of hatch at$20^{\circ}C$is the greater value as 90%, and the rates of 25, 30 and $35^{\circ}C$ are 79, 79 and 67%, respectively. That is the rate of hatch was decreased, as the temperature was increased. The mortality in the temperature of $35^{\circ}C$ is the greatest value as 68%, and those of 30, 25 and $20^{\circ}C$are 59, 59 and 41%, respectively. That is, the mortality was increased, as the temperature was increased. There was not significantly differences between the developmental period of female and male.

  • Larval development, adult longevity and oviposition of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua H bner was studied at 16, 20, 25 and 3$0^{\circ}C$ with a 16L: 8D photoperiod. Egg hatchability of S. exigua was the highest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and reduced with decreasing temperature. Egg period was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and prolonged with decreasing temperature. Percent pupation was became higher at higher temperature form 23.2% to 94.0%. Developmental period of larva was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$, but extended with decreasing temperature. Adult emergence ratio was the highest at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and reduced with decreasing temperature. The mean pupal period was 35.2, 14.4, 7.8 and 5.0 days at 16, 20, 25 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Relationships between constant temperature and the developmental velocity of egg, larva and pupa were linear. Developmental threshold temperature seems to be 13.3 8$^{\circ}C$ for egg, 14.02$^{\circ}C$ for larva, 14.09$^{\circ}C$ for pupa, and 13.84$^{\circ}C$ for egg the adult. Estimated value of the total effective temperature for completing each stage was 36.89 day-degree for egg, 155.72 day-degree for larva, 79.20 day-degree for pupa, and 273.41 day-degree for egg to adult. Female longevity varied to temperature from 11.4 days at 16$^{\circ}C$ to 5.8 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$, and male longevity was longer than that of female. Preoviposition period was the shortest at 3$0^{\circ}C$, but prolonged with decreasing temperature. It was about 2.7 times longer at 16$^{\circ}C$ than that at 3$0^{\circ}C$. Number of eggs per female was the highest at $25^{\circ}C$, followed by 20, 30 and 16$^{\circ}C$.

  • Comprehensive collecting survey were performed fer study on ovipositioning habits and developmental process of Rana temporaria dybowskii from mid February 1998 to late May 1998 from Kyunggi-do, Kangwon-do and other areas in South Korea. Oviposition occurred in both running water and pool between late February and late May. In lotic habitat, they laid egg mass in irregularly ball shaped, and eggs were sticked to substrates such as stone or macrophytes. On contrary, in the pool, they laid an oval shaped egg mass not sticked to any other substrates. Every egg was hatched at day 7, and all developmental processes were completed at days 71 after oviposition. Developmental process of this species was relatively short, and this may increase predation activities during abundant prey season.

  • We have launched an investigation for Embryonic Development, Larvae and Juvenile Morphology, of Buenos aires tetra in order to build basic data of Characidae and fish seeding production. We brought 50 couples of Characidae from Bizidduck aquarium in Yeosu-si, Jeollanamdo, from Korea on March of 2015. We put them in the tetragonal glass aquarium ($50{\times}50{\times}30cm$). Breeding water temperature was $27.5{\sim}28.5^{\circ}C$ (mean $28.0{\pm}0.05^{\circ}C$) and being maintained. The shape of fertilized egg was round shape, and it was adhesive demersal egg. The egg size was 0.63~0.91 mm (mean $0.74{\pm}0.07mm$, n=20). After getting fertilized egg, the developmental stage was gastrula stage, and embryo covered almost two-thirds of Yolk. Incubation was happened after 16 hours 13 minutes from gastrula stage, and the tail of juvenile came out first with tearing egg capsule. Immediately after the incubation, prelarvae had 3.78~3.88 mm length (mean $3.84{\pm}0.04mm$, n=5), and it had no mouth and anus yet. 34 days after hatching from the incubation, juvenile had 8.63~13.1 mm (mean $10.9{\pm}1.66mm$), and it had similar silver-colored body shape with its mother.

  • The 27 kDa cathepsin L-like cysteine protease of Spirometra erinocei plerocercoid is known to play an important function in tissue penetration, nutrient uptake and immune modulation in human sparganosis. In the present study, the expression of this enzyme was examined at different developmental stages of S. erinacei including immature egg, coracidium, plerocercoid in tadpole and rat, and adult Proteolytic activity against carboxybenzoyl-phenylalanyl-arginyl-7-amino-4-rnethylcournarin was do tooted in the extracts of coracidia and plerocercoid while no activity was observed in those of immature egg and adult. The specific activity in coraridial extracts was lower than that in the plerocercoid. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Northern biol analysis demonstrated that the gene was expressed in the coracidium and plerocercoid but not in immature egg and adult. These results suggest that the 27 kDa cysteine protease is only expressed in the stages involving active migration of the parasite in the host tissue.

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the developmental characteristics of Propylea japonica Thunberg (Coleoptera : Coccinellidae), a predator of aphids under laboratory conditions. The development times of the egg and immature stages of Propylea japonica were investigated at ten constant temperatures(15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, 35 and $38{\pm}1^{\circ}C$; 14L:10D; $60{\pm}5%$ RH). Development time was longest at $17.5^{\circ}C$. The developmental periods of P. japonica from the time of egg oviposited to adult emergence was 36.9 days at $17.5^{\circ}C$, and it decreased ash temperature increasing. Threshold temperature of development and degree days of the P. japonica from egg to adult were $11.9^{\circ}C$ and 196.0 respectively. The Briere 2 and Lactin 2 modes were best fitted for all development stages. The distribution of completion of each development stage was explain relatively well that 2-parameter, 3-parameter and Logistic model except egg and pupal stage.

  • The author reared the bandwinged grasshoppers, Oedaleus infernalis infernalis in the growth cabinet controlled as temperature of 25。C and 30。C under the conditiion of photoperiod 16L:8D, light intensity 510$\pm$240lux, relative humidity 65$\pm$3%. The results are summarized as follows: The female has six instars and male five instars. The larva reared in the temperature of 25。C died at the second larva stage, and the development to the third instar was impossible. The developmental periods of the egg stage of both sexes in the 30。C are 24.06 days. In the larval development periods, the fourth statge (19.73 days) was longer than that of any stage, and the second stage has the shortest period (9.9 days) in female. In male, the developmental period (9.59 days). The total developmental periods of female and male from the egg to the fifth instar were approximately 95.02 and 95.04 days, respectively. The total developmental period of female was as long as the period (15.75 days) of sixth instar which is not in the male. The survivorship curve in the temperature of 30。C shows concave type.

  • The development of OrientaL tobacco budworm (OTE), Heticoverpa assulta, was studied at seven constant temperatures from 18 to $33^{\circ}C$ with a 14L : 10D photoperiod on the artificial diet. The egg, larval, and pupal duration comprised ca. 10, 48, and 42% of the total developmental time (from egg to adult emergence). The lower developmental threshold temperatures for egg, larval, pupal, and overall development were 8.62, 12.65, 11.64, and $11.89^{\circ}C$, respectively. The biophysical model of Sharpe & DeMichele (1977) provided a good description of OTB's development as a function of temperature ($r^2$=0.993~O.996). The Wmbull distribution was fitted to cumulative frequency distributions of normalized developmental times for each developmental stage of OTE ($r^2$== 0.987 ~0.999).

  • Spotted wing drosophila (SWD) has emerged as a major invasive insect pest of small berry fruits in the Americas and Europe since the late 2000s. Thus, phytosanitary treatment of commodities for export is imperative to prevent the movement of viable SWD to newer areas. In the present study, all developmental stages of SWD were irradiated with different doses of gamma and electron beam radiation to assess developmental inhibition to identify potential quarantine doses of the radiations. Ionizing radiation induced developmental inhibition of all stages of SWD. The effective doses for 99% inhibition ($ED_{99}$) of hatching, pupariation, and adult emergence from irradiated eggs for gamma radiation were 882, 395 and 39 Gy, respectively, compared with 2849, 687, and 41 Gy, respectively, for electron beam radiation. The $ED_{99}$ for inhibition of pupariation and adult emergence in irradiated larvae were 703 and 47 Gy, respectively, for gamma radiation, and 619 and 33 Gy, respectively, for electron beam radiation. Pupal irradiation did not completely inhibit adult emergence, even at 300 Gy. However, irradiation with ${\geq}100Gy$ of puparia induced adult sterility, with no egg production at all. The $ED_{99}$ for inhibition of $F_1$ egg hatchability from adults irradiated with gamma radiation and electron beam radiation was estimated to be 424 and 125 Gy, respectively. The results of the present study suggest that gamma radiation and electron beam radiation are alternatives for phytosanitary treatment. Irradiation with 100 Gy could be suggested as a potential dose for egg, larval, and pupal quarantine treatment of SWD.
