The adsorption process using GAC is one of the most secured methods to remove of phosphate from solution. This study was conducted by impregnating Cu(II) to GAC(GAC-Cu) to enhance phosphate adsorption for GAC. In the preparation of GAC-Cu, increasing the concentration of Cu(II) increased the phosphate uptake, confirming the effect of Cu(II) on phosphate uptake. A pH experiment was conducted at pH 4-8 to investigate the effect of the solution pH. Decrease of phosphate removal efficiency was found with increase of pH for both adsorbents, but the reduction rate of GAC-Cu slowed, indicating electrostatic interaction and coordinating bonding were simultaneously involved in phosphate removal. The adsorption was analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm to determine the maximum phosphate uptake(qm) and adsorption mechanism. According to correlation of determination(R2), Freundlich isotherm model showed a better fit than Langmuir isotherm model. Based on the negative values of qm, Langmuir adsorption constant(b), and the value of 1/n, phosphate adsorption was shown to be unfavorable and favorable for GAC and GAC-Cu, respectively. The attempt of the linearization of each isotherm obtained very poor R2. Batch kinetic tests verified that ~30% and ~90 phosphate adsorptions were completed within 1h and 24 h, respectively. Pseudo second order(PSO) model showed more suitable than pseudo first order(PFO) because of higher R2. Regardless of type of kinetic model, GAC-Cu obtained higher constant of reaction(K) than GAC.

Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) has drawn much attention due to easy deployment and good scalability. Recently, major power utilities have been focusing on R&D to apply WMN technology in Smart Grid Network. Smart Grid is an intelligent electrical power network that can maximize energy efficiency through bidirectional communication between utility providers and customers with ICT(Information Communication Technology). It is necessary to guarantee QoS of some important data in Smart Grid system such as real-time data delivery. In this paper, we suggest QoS enhancement method for WMN based Smart Grid system using IEEE 802.11s. We analyze Smart Grid Application characteristics and apply IEEE 802.11s WMN scheme for Smart Grid in domestic power communication system. Performance evaluation is progressed using NS-2 simulator implementing IEEE 802.11s. The simulation results show that the QoS enhancement scheme can guarantee stable bandwidth irrespective of traffic condition due to IEEE 802.11s reservation mechanism.
Purpose Since human brains catch images faster than texts or numbers, infographics has been widely used in business in the form of "information dashboard" to enhance the efficiency of decision-making. Groupware, however, has neglected the adoption and use of infographics, in particular, in the idea generation process. Given that an overall performance of groupware-based idea generation is no better than that of the (paper-and-pencil-based) Nominal Group Technique, Jung et al. (2010) adopted the notion of infographics in the form of performance feedback to solve the productivity paradox. With the consistent results, which demonstrate beneficial effects of infographics on performance enhancement, an interesting observation that groups with the bar chart treatment performed better than groups with the dot chart treatment was made. The main purpose of this study was to find if there were a performance consistency between the outcomes from the previous study and the outcomes from the current study. Design/methodology/approach In experiment 1, we employed the same system used in the previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). As individuals' contributions accumulated, the mechanism visually displayed individuals' performances two-dimensionally in the form of a bar chart or a dot chart. Then, we compared the performance outcomes from this study to the outcomes from previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). In experiment 2, we modified the performance graph to test the effect of "playfulness" on performance by converting dots to car images. Then, we compared the performance outcome from experiment 2 to the outcomes from experiment 1. Findings Just like our interesting (and unexpected) finding in Jung et al.'s study (2010), the outcome confirmed a consistent superior performance of a bar chart. This implies that a bar chart is a better choice when stimulating performance with a visual aid in the context of groupware-based idea generation. Although a bar chart was criticized in a way that errors of length-area judgments are 40 ~ 250% greater than those of positional judgments along a common scale, such illusion turned out to be facilitating upward performance comparison better. Regarding Experiment 2, the outcome showed that the revised-dot graph is as good as the bar graph in terms of quantity and quality score of ideas. We attribute the performance enhancement of the resized-dot to the interaction between the motivational characteristic and the situational characteristic of playfulness because individuals in the revised-dot graph treatment performed better than individuals in the dot graph treatment. Given the order of performance (Bar >= Revised Dot > Dot) that the revised-dot treatment performed the same as (or lower than) the bar treatment, an additional research is warranted to reach to a consistent outcome.

In order to control the flow of traffics in ATM networks and optimize the usage of network resources, an efficient control mechanism is necessary to cope with congestion and prevent the degradation of network performance caused by congestion. In this paper, Buffered Leaky Bucket which applies the same control scheme to a variety of traffics requiring the different QoS(Quality of Service) and Neural Networks lead to the effective buffer utilization and QoS enhancement in aspects of cell loss rate and mean transfer delay. And the cell scheduling algorithms such as DWRR and DWEDF for multiplexing the incoming traffics are enhanced to get the better fair delay. The network congestion information from cell scheduler is used to control the predicted traffic loss rate of Neural Leaky Bucket, and token generation rate and buffer threshold are changed by the predicted values. The prediction of traffic loss rate by neural networks can enhance efficiency in controlling the cell loss rate and cell transfer delay of next incoming cells and also be applied for other traffic controlling schemes. Computer simulation results performed for random cell generation and traffic prediction show that QoSs of the various kinds of traffcis are increased.

The gate-biases of the Doherty power amplifier are controlled to improve the linearity performance. The linearity improvement mechanism of the Doherty amplifier is the harmonic cancellation of the carrier and peaking amplifier at the output power combining point. However, it is difficult to cancel the harmonic power for the broader power range because the condition for cancelling is varied by power. For the linearity improvement, we have explored the linearity characteristic of the Doherty amplifier according to the input power and gate biases of the carrier and peaking amplifier. To extend the region of harmonic power cancellation, we have injected the proper gate bias to the carrier and peaking amplifier according to the input power levels. To validate the linearity improvement, the Doherty amplifier is designed using Eudyna 10-W PEP GaN HEMT EGN010MKs at 2.345 GHz and optimized to achieve a high linearity and efficiency at an average output power of 33 dBm, backed off about 10 dB from the $P_{1dB}$. In the experiments, the envelope tracking Doherty amplifier delivers a significantly improved adjacent channel leakage ratio performance of -37.4 dBc, which is an enhancement of about 2.8 dB, maintaining the high PAE of about 26 % for the WCDMA 1-FA signal at an average output power of 33 dBm. For the 802.16-2004 signal, the amplifier is also improved by about 2 dB, -35 dB.

The purpose of this study is to investigate basically the mechanism of heat transfer by the resolution of complex fluid flow inside a sophisticated designed screw dryer for the treatment of sewage sludge by using numerical analysis and experimental study. By doing this, the result was quite helpful to obtain the design criteria for enhancing drying efficiency, thereby achieving the optimal design of a multiple screw type dryer for treating inorganic and organic sludge wastes. One notable design feature of the dryer was to bypass a certain of fraction of the hot combustion gases into the bottom of the screw cylinder, by the fluid flow induction, across the delicately designed holes on the screw surface to agitate internally the sticky sludges. This offers many benefits not only in the enhancement of thermal efficiency even for the high viscosity material but also greater flexibility in the application of system design and operation. However, one careful precaution was made in operation in that when distributing the hot flue gas over the lump of sludge for internal agitation not to make any pore blocking and to avoid too much pressure drop caused by inertial resistance across the lump of sludge. The optimal retention time for rotating the screw at 1 rpm in order to treat 200 kg/hr of sewage sludge was determined empirically about 100 minutes. The corresponding optimal heat source was found to be 150,000 kcal/hr. A series of numerical calculation is performed to resolve flow characteristics in order to assist in the system design as function of important system and operational variables. The numerical calculation is successfully evaluated against experimental temperature profile and flow field characteristics. In general, the calculation results are physically reasonable and consistent in parametric study. In further studies, more quantitative data analyses such as pressure drop across the type and loading of drying sludge will be made for the system evaluation in experiment and calculation.

Purpose : The water exchange rate between bulk water and bound water is an important parameter in deciding the efficiency of paramagnetic contrast agents. In this study, we evaluated the water exchange rates of various Gd-chelates using oxygen-17 NMR technique. Material and Methods : The samples (Gd-DTPA, Gd-DTPA-BMA, Gd-DOTA, Gd-EOB-DTPA) were prepared by mixing 5% $^{17}O-enriched$ water (Isotech, USA). The pH of the samples was adjusted to physiological value [pH=7.0] by buffer solution. The variable temperature $^{17}O-NMR$ measurements were performed using Bruker-600 (14.1 T, 81.3 MHz) spectrometer. Bruker VT-1000 temperature control units were used to stabilize the temperature. The $^{17}O$ spin-spin relaxation times (T2) were measured using Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG)I pulse sequence with 24 echo trains. The variable temperature T2 relaxation data were then fitted into Solomon-Bloembergen equations using least square fit algorithm to estimate the water exchange times. Results : From the measured $^{17}O-NMR$ relaxation rates, the determined water exchange rates at 300K are $0.42{\;}{\mu}s$ for Gd-DTPA, $1.99{\;}{\mu}s$ for Gd-DTPA-BMA, $0.27{\;}{\mu}s$ for Gd-DOTA, and $0.11{\;}{\mu}s$ for Gd-EOB-DTPA. The Gd-DTPA-BMA showed slowest exchange whereas Gd-EOB-DTPA had fastest water exchange rate. In addition, it was found that the water exchange rates (${\tau}_m$) of all samples had exponential temperature dependence with different decay constant. Conclusion : $^{17}O-NMR$ relaxation rate measurements, when combined with variable temperature technique, provide a solid tool for studying water exchange rate, which is very important in investigating the detailed mechanism of relaxation enhancement effect of the paramagnetic contrast agents.
