양생 조건에 따른 콘크리트의 체적 변화 (Volumetric Change of Concrete Subjected to Different Curing Condition)

  • High-performance concrete (HPC) may be expected to differ from usual concrete with respect to shrinkage behavior, and it shows high autogenous shrinkage due to the use of very low water-binder ratio (w/b) and various admixtures. Therefore, in order to minimize the shrinkage stress and to ensure the service life of concrete structure, volumetric change of HPC should be understood. In this study, small prisms made of HPC with w/b of 0.32 and blast-furnace slag content of $0\%,\;30\%,\;and\;50\%$ were prepared to measure the volumetric changes such as autogenous shrinkage, drying shrinkage, and swelling under three different curing conditions. It was observed that the concrete cured. sealed condition showed only autogenous shrinkage while the concrete let to dry condition at temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of $60\%$ during the test period showed both autogenous and drying shrinkage. Moreover, the concrete exposed to dry condition after 2-day water curing swelled and then started to shrink with age. The total shrinkage (autogenous+drying) of this concrete was smaller than that of the concrete cured dry condition, especially at early-age. Therefore, the early-age moisture curing is very effective to control or minimize the volumetric change and its induced stress of HPC.

Effect of Microsporidian Infection on Reproductive Potentiality on Mulberry Silkworm, Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) in Different Seasons

  • Infection of pathogenic microsporidia, Nosema bombycis and Nosema mylitta (Chakrabarti and Manna, 2006) decreased egg production, fecundity, hatching % and increased sterile eggs in heavily infected mulberry silkmoth, Bombyx mori L. On an average a disease free moth laid upto 442.67 eggs with high hatching % (99.53) and less sterile eggs ($0.47{\sim}2.00%$). While an infected moth laid less number of eggs ($7.00{\sim}412.00$) with low hatching % ($32.437{\sim}98.643$) and high sterile eggs ($2.143{\sim}129.571$). Fecundity of disease free laying was highest (468.714) during season-1 then gradually decreased during season- 2 (414.000) to season- 3 (404.285). But fecundity of an infected laying was highest during season-2 and hatched eggs were lowest during season-2. Higher inoculums concentration of N. mylitta infected to 5th stage larva of mulberry silkworm drastically decreased the fecundity in season - 3 and lower inoculums concentration of N. bombycis decreased the fecundity in season-1 and 3. Season-3 was most effective season to decrease the fecundity and increase sterile eggs when both temperature and humidity were fluctuated from the optimum level.

Viability Loss of Bacteriophage MS2 Exposed to Bronze Alloy Yugi

  • Cross contamination of foodborne virus via food utensils can be an important route of virus propagation. Bacteriophage MS2 was used as a surrogate for norovirus. The viability loss of bacteriophage MS2 attached to 4 kinds of metal surfaces was investigated at different temperatures and relative humidities (RH). The rate of viability loss was higher at $22^{\circ}C$ than at $10^{\circ}C$ and was higher at 75% RH than at 40% RH. The viability loss of the virus attached to copper or bronze surface was faster than on stainless steel or tin surface. Also the beef juice applied with the virus inoculum on the metal surfaces lowered the rate of viability loss. Although bronze was not as effective as copper in resulting the viability loss, it has been extensively used as a traditional Korean kitchen utensil and could be used more widely to decrease the viral poisoning at food processing environment and hospitals.

Effects of Microwaves on the Germination of Weed Seeds

  • Purpose: Weeds cause significant losses in agricultural production. In this study, we investigated the effect of microwaves on the germination rates of cress and arugula seeds to determine whether microwaves could be developed as an effective alternative to conventional chemical-based herbicides. Methods: Seeds were planted at equal depths (8-10 mm) in a soil-turf mixture, and seeds were exposed to microwaves for 126 s, 70 s, and 50 s in a device constructed specifically for this study. A microwave tunnel was built using a variable speed conveyor belt and 4 magnetrons with a combined output power of 2.8 kW. Seeds that were not exposed to microwaves were germinated with regulated irrigation, temperature, and humidity controls in parallel with the treated seeds, and the germination rates were compared among the treatment groups. Results: We found that the exposure of cress and arugula seeds to microwaves for 126 s inhibited germination close to 100%. Cress seeds treated with microwaves for 50 s showed 95% germination compared to 65% germination of the untreated cress seeds. Conclusions: We predict that the thermal effect of microwave energy affects the germination ratio and germination rate of seeds.

옥외용 고분자 절연재료의 자외선 열화특성 연구 (A Study on the Ultraviolet Aging Characteristics of Outdoor Polymeric Insulating Materials)

  • Recently, the polymeric insulators have been accepted in several countries for the outdoor high voltage applications. In comparison with the conventional porcelain, polymeric insulators offer various advantages such as light weight, superior vandal resistance and better contamination performance. The outdoor polymeric insulating materials such as silicone rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM), ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) and epoxy are aged such as silicone rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM), ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) and epoxy are aged under the various natural environment with the long-term performance in outdoor. In this paper, the effects of UV-under the various natural environment with the long-term performance in outdoor. In this paper, the effects of UV-ray on the surface of silicone rubber were investigated by using the weather-Ometer. The accelerated aging stresses were simulated by UV radiation, high temperature and humidity as well as water spray. These aging characteristics were examined through contact angle measurements, tracking resistance test, FT-IR and SEM/EDS analysis. The experimental results showed that tracking resistance decreases with increase in the UV-ray irradiation period. But the surface of silicone rubber kept hydrophobicity. It is found that the inorganic filler such as)$ Al(OH_3$ improves tracking resistance and the $Tio_2$is very effective in preventing degradation of silicone rubber surface from UV-ray.

A Novel Air-cell Mattress Based on Approximate Anthropometric Model for Preventing Pressure Ulcer

  • Air mattress is now used widely to prevent the pressure ulcer by reducing the localized pressure peaks. In this paper an air-cell mattress and its pressure control method based on an approximate anthropometric model are presented. The air-cell mattress has eighteen cylindrical air cells made of porous material allowing air leakage to contribute in reducing the development of pressure ulcer by lowering the pressure peak, temperature and humidity. To determine an optimal air-cell pressure appropriate for each user, we divide the parts of the body into four sections such as head, trunk, hip, and leg. Then, the pressure of each section is independently calculated from the weight of each part based on the individual body height and weight and the approximate anthropometric model. Air supply system for the air-cell mattress is implemented by using four electronic solenoid valves and an air compressor, and it is driven by a real-time micro-controller. The experimental results with seven subjects shows that the proposed air-cell mattress is effective for the prevention of the pressure ulcer.

  • 최근 들어 다양한 센서를 장착한 스마트 건물의 등장이 가시화 됨에 따라 센서로부터 데이터의 수집과 분석이 중요하게 되었다. 센서로부터 데이터를 획득하기 위해서는 일정구간의 유선화는 불가피하나 유선화 구간을 최소화하고 건물에 따라서는 센서간의 통신을 무선으로 함을 목표로 하고 있다. 이러한 케이블링에 따른 비용부담과 건물의 손상 등을 방지하기 위해서는 무선화가 가능한 구역의 선정 및 건물 구조에 따른 신호전달 특성을 객관적으로 파악하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 건물 내 신호전달 특성을 측정하기 위한 시스템의 설계를 다루고 시뮬레이션을 통해 시스템의 동작을 확인한다.

한국의 열감분포에 관한 생리 기후학적 연구 - 신유효온도를 중심으로 - (A Physioclimatic Study on the Thermal Sensation in Korea)

  • 본 논문에서는 인간 생리 및 생활에 가장 기본이 되는 온도, 상대습도를 기초로 하여 인간의 열긴장도를 측정하여 우리나라의 열감분포의 특성을 파악하였다. 연구 방법은 열지수 분석을 중심으로 하였다. 열지수는 습도계산도에서, 월별 열지수 및 연누적 열지수를 계산하여 한국의 연누적 열지수 분포도를 작성하였다. 연누적 열지수 분포의 분석 결과는 우리 나라의 대부분 지역이 한랭긴장도가 나타나는 지역이고 남쪽에서 북쪽으로, 해안에서 내륙으로 갈수록 한랭긴장도가 높아지고 있다. 특히 삼지연. 풍산, 장진을 중심으로 한 개마고원 지역이 높은 한랭긴장도 지역이고, 제주와 서귀포룰 포함한 제주도 지역이 가장 낮은 긴장도를 보이고 있다. 전자는 겨울에 시베리아 기단의 영향을 직접 받고. 고도가 매우 높은 내륙 산지 지역이기 때문이고, 후자는 위도와 바다의 영향으로 특히 겨울에 온화한 지역이기 때문이다.

  • This paper presents an IAQ(Indoor Air Quality) Monitoring System using equipments for measurement of fine Particle($PM1{\sim}PM10$), $CO_2$, VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds), temperature and humidity for IAQ monitoring of subway station which millions of people use a day. The necessity of IAQ monitoring system is getting increased for more effective subway station monitoring in line with the recent government's regulation for IAQ is reinforcing. Subway Station is an unusual case. The structure of subway station is closed and complicated. Therefore when data of equipments are transferred, transmission error can happen occasionally. To prevent transmission error, an IAQ Monitoring System is needed the appropriate position and selection of equipments or sensor module. In addition IT(Information Technology) can be utilized like "WiBro(Wireless Broadband)" and "GateWay" for facilitate movement of data and construction of IAQ monitoring system of subway station.

Development of eco-friendly concrete produced with Rice Husk Ash (RHA) based geopolymer

  • This paper reports the effect of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) in geopolymer concrete on strength, durability and microstructural properties under ambient curing at a room temperature of 25℃ and 65±5% relative humidity. Rice husk was incinerated at 800℃ in a hot air oven. and ground in a ball mill to achieve the required fineness. RHA was partially added in 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 percentages to fly ash with 10% of GGBS to produce geopolymer concrete. Test results exhibit that the substitution of RHA in geopolymer concrete resulted in reduced strength properties during initial curing. In the initial stage, workability of GPC mixes was affected by RHA particles due to the presence of dormant particles in it. It is evident from the microstructural study that the presence of RHA particles densifies the matrix reducing porosity in concrete. This is due to the presence of RHA in geopolymer concrete, which affects the ratio of silica and alumina, resulting in polycondensation reactions products. This study suggests that incorporation of rice husk ash in geopolymer concrete is the solution for effective utilization of waste materials and prevention of environmental pollution due to the dumping of industrial waste and to produce eco-friendly concrete.
