Various problems such as increase of power loss and voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and restructuring of electric power companies makes the comprehensive management of reactive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of generation cost is derived and it is used for effectively determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, voltage variation penalty cost is introduced and integrated costs including voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of load power factor from the point of view of economic investment and voltage regulation. It is shown through application to a large-scale power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively using the load power factor sensitivity and the integrated cost.

Traffic offloading is a promising solution to solve the explosive growth of mobile traffic. One of offloading schemes, in LIPA/SIPTO(Local IP Access and Selected IP Traffic Offload) offloading, we can offload mobile traffic that can satisfy QoS requirement for application. In addition, it is necessary for traffic offloading using social context due to large traffic from SNS. Thus, we propose the LIPA/SIPTO offloading algorithm using social context. We define the application selection probability using social context, the application popularity. Then, we find the optimal offloading weighting factor to maximize the QoS(Quality of Service) of small cell users in term of effective data rate. Finally, we determine the offloading ratio by this application selection probability and optimal offloading weighting factor. By performance analysis, the effective data rate achievement ratio of the proposed algorithm is similar with the conventional one although the total offloading ratio of the proposed algorithm is about 46 percent of the conventional one.
Numerical analysis was performed using FIMMWAVE to optimize the specifications of Si3N4/SiO2 slot and ridge-slot optical waveguides based on confinement factor and effective mode area. The optimized specifications were confirmed based on sensitivity in terms of the refractive index of the analyte. The specifications of the slot optical waveguide, i.e., the width of the slot and the width and height of the rails, were optimized to 0.2 ㎛, 0.46 ㎛, and 0.5 ㎛ respectively. When the wavelength was 1.55 ㎛ and the refractive index of the slot was 1.3, the confinement factor and effective mode area of 0.2024 and 2.04 ㎛2, respectively, were obtained based on the optimized specifications. The thickness of the ridge and the refractive index of the slot were set to 0.04 ㎛ and 1.1, respectively, to optimize the ridge-slot optical waveguide, and the confinement factor and effective mode area were calculated as 0.1393 and 2.90 ㎛2, respectively. When the confinement coefficient and detection degree of the two structures were compared in the range of 1 to 1.3 of the analyte index, it was observed that the confinement coefficient and sensitivity were higher in the ridge-slot optical waveguide in the region with a refractive index less than 1.133, but the reverse situation occurred in the other region. Therefore, in the implementation of the integrated optical biochemical sensor, it is possible to propose a selection criterion for the two parameters depending on the value of the refractive index of the analyte.
This study has the purposes to search the most visually effective and appropriate number of pleats and skirt length, when it's worn, with the changes in the number of pleats and skirt length that could be influential in analyzing the visual evaluation of pleats skirt and to analyze the changes when those factors are applied in real pattern. The stimuli were 18 samples: 6 variations of the number of pleats and 3 variations of the length of skirt. The data were obtained from 54 fashion design majors. The data were analyzed by Factor Analysis, Anova, Scheffe's Test and the MCA method. The results of the study were as follows: The visual image by the number of pleats and the length of skirt were composed of 4 factors : activity, attraction, neatness and commonness. In these factors, activity factor was estimated by the most important factor. The visual image according to the changes in the number of pleats and skirt length had significant differences, and the pleats skirts with 12 and 16 number of pleats and 38cm of skirt length were evaluated to be the most effective. The activity factor had interaction influence effect according to the number of pleats and the skirt length. The skirt length had more influence than the number of pleats in attraction and neatness factors, and the other way around for commonness factor.
This study was conducted (i) to recommend the high-scored education method as a adaptable method, and (ii) to find the most influential factor among the three acceptability components (feasibility factor, stimulation factor and reliability factor) to urban or rural residents. The accept-ability score of each health education method currently existing in urban and rural area was estimated. A total of 257 households in Guro 6-dong, Seoul, and 233 households in Jeomdong-myeon, Yeoju-gun, were sampled by interview survey using questionnaire. The four types of health education methods used in this study are; printed matter method, mailing service method. personal contact method, and group contact method. The major findings obtained from this research are as follows; 1) In urban area, the highest-scored in terms of acceptability is the personal contact method, followed by the mailing service, the printed matter, and the group contact. The mailing service method is found to be effective especially for the intelligent group people. 2) In rural area, the highest-scored in terms of acceptability is also the personal contact method, followed by the group contact, and printed matter method. In general, the group contact method is effective toward both urban-poor and rural housewives (especially in stimulation factor). To improve the health consciousness of the residents, there arises the need for the existing education program into better organized and diversified one and for educating health-educators by providing in-depth health knowledge.
The heat transfer and friction factor characteristics of turbulent flows in three stationary channels have been investigated experimentally to check out the effect of divergence ratio. These are a constant cross-sectional channel and two diverging channels with ratio of divergence(Dho/Dhi) of 1.16 and 1.49. The measurement was conducted within the range of Reynolds numbers from 15,000 to 89,000 and the dimension of uniform cross-sectional test section is $100mm{\times}100mm$ at the cross section and 1,000 mm in length. The measurements of heat transfer coefficients and friction factors in the uniform channels were conducted as a reference. Because of the streamwise flow deceleration, the heat transfer and friction factor characteristics in the diverging channel were quite different from those of the constant cross-sectional channel. The effective friction factors and convective heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing the ratio of divergence of the channel.
All contemporary seismic Codes have adopted smooth design acceleration response spectra, which have derived by statistical analysis of many elastic response spectra of natural accelerograms. The above smooth design spectra are characterized by two main branches, an horizontal branch that is 2.5 times higher than the peak ground acceleration, and a declining parabolic branch. According to Eurocode EN/1998, the period range of the horizontal, flat branch is extended from 0.1 s, for rock soils, up to 0.8 s for softer ones. However, from many natural recorded accelerograms of important earthquakes, the real spectral amplification factor appears to be much higher than 2.5 and this means that the spectrum leads to an unsafe seismic design of the structures. This point is an issue open to question and it is the object of the present study. In the present paper, the spectral amplification factor of the smooth design acceleration spectra is re-calculated on the grounds of a known "reliability index" for a desired probability of exceedance. As a pilot scheme, the seismic area of Greece is chosen, as it is the most seismically hazardous area in Europe. The accelerograms of the 82 most important earthquakes, which have occurred in Greece during the last 38 years, are used. The soil categories are taken into account according to EN/1998. The results that have been concluded from these data are compared with the results obtained from other strong earthquakes reported in the World literature.

The purpose of this study is to propose a modification factor to reflect the lateral stiffness modification when a step is located in flat plates. Reinforced concrete slabs with steps have different structural characteristics that are demonstrated by a series of structural experiment and nonlinear analyses. The corner at the step is weak and flexible, and the associated rotational stiffness degradation at the corner of the step is identified through analyses of 6 types of models using a nonlinear finite element program. Then a systematic analysis of stiffness changes is performed using a linear finite element procedure along with rotational springs. The lateral stiffness of reinforced concrete flat plates with steps is mainly affected by the step length, location, thickness and height. Therefore, a single modification factor for each of these variables is obtained, while other variables are constrained. When multiple variables are considered, each single modification factor is multiplied by the other. Such a method is verified by a comparative analysis. Finally, a complex modification factor can be applied to the existing effective slab width.

Using the CT specimen of carbon steel(SM45C), we estimated the fatigue crack propagation behavior in stable crack propagation range. Furthermore the fatigue crack propagation rate, Acoustic Emission(AE) count rate, and fractography characteristics were also compared among others. The following results were confirmed by experimental observation. Near-threshold stress intensity factor range(.DELTA. $K_{th}$) is influenced by stress ratio but not at the upper limit of stable crack propagation range. As stress intensity factor range(.DELTA.K) and(or) stress amplitude increase (s), both crack propagation rate(da/dN) and AE count rate(dn/dN) increase. Effective stress intensity factor range(.DELTA. $K_{off}$) determined from the crack closure point measurement by AE method is useful for the evaluation of fatigue crack propagation rate. Fractography in stable crack propagation range showed striation, and agreed with the crack propagation rate obtained either by experiment of by the results of microscopic measurements.s.

The purposes of this study were: 1) to develop specific AIO variables(clothing variables) based on clothing behavior studies, 2) to segment apparel market by clothing variables, 3) to discribe the profile of each segment with clothing variables, lifestyle variables and demographic variables, 4) to Suggest effective strategies on apparel market of women's clothing. The Likert Type clothing questionnaires measured 6 aspects of clothing (fashion, conformity-individuality, practicality, aesthetics, modesty and brand consciousness & status symbols) dealing with activities, interests and opinions. In addition, lifestyle variables were measured with general AIO statements. The questionnaires were administered to 563 young women (students, career women and homemakers) living in Seoul. The data were analysed by factor analysis, ctustering analysis, multiple discriminant analysis, one-way ANOVA ana Duncan's multiple range test. The results of the study were as follow: 1) 4 factors emerged from factor analysis of clothing variables. Factor 1: lower interest in modesty and higher interest in aesthics, Factor 2: brand consciousness and status symbols, Factor 3: conformity, Factor4 : fashion. 2) Lifestyle variables clustered into 3 factors. Factor 1: positive social activity, Factor 2: family-oriented type, Factor S: materialism. 3) By cluster analysis of the 4 factors of the clothing variables, the apparel market of women's clothing was categorised into 3 segments (innovative aesthetics seeker group, brand and status symbols conscious group, clothing unconscious group). 4) The above three segmented groups were also significantly discriminated by lifestyle and demosraphic variables. 5) On the basis of the findings, effective marketing strategies of women's clothing were suggested.
