  • The exposure dose form recycling on a large amount of the steel scrap from the KRR-1&2 decommissioning activities was evaluated, and also the clearance level was derived. The maximum individual dose and collective dose were evaluated by modifying internal dose conversion factor which was based on the concept of effective dose in ICRP 60, applied to the RESRAD-RECYCLE ver 3.06 computing code, IAEA Safety Series III-P-1.1 and NUREG-1640 as the assessment tool. The result of assessment for individual dose and collective dose is 23.9 ${\mu}Sv$ per year and 0.11 man$\cdot$Sv per year respectively. The clearance levels were ultimately determined by extracting the most conservative value form the results of the generic assessment and specific assessment methodologies. The result of clearance level for radionuclides($Co^60$, $Cs^137$) is less than $1.67{\times}10^{-1}$ Bq/g to comply with the clearance criterion(maximum individual dose : 10 $\muSv$ per year, collective dose : 1 man$\cdot$Sv per year) provided for Korea Atomic Energy Act and relevant regulations.

  • Continuous removal of organic matters (CROM) using freshwater bivalve Anodonta woodiana was operated to evaluate the effect of water current on the water quality improvement (clearance) of eutrophic lake. The CROM system comprised three treatment steps such as flow control, treatment and analysis, and operated at the two different currents ($24L\;h^{-1}$ and $48L\;h^{-1}$) with mussels at density of $312.5indiv.\;m^{-2}$ for 12 consecutive days. Water quality including suspended solids (SS) and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) was daily measured at the same time. Results indicate that although both the system strongly decreased the concentration of SS and chl-a, a slow CROM system was more effective to diminish the SS contents than a fast CROM system; 82% and 66%, respectively (ANOVA, P<0.0001). Clearance rates, based on chl-a, were also significantly higher in a slow system than a fast system (ANOVA, P<0.0001), although the mussel mortality was conversely. In both systems, there showed a remarkable excretion of dissolved inorganic nutrients (i.e. $NH_3-N$ and $PO_4-P$), while a slow CROM system was higher than a fast system, significantly (ANOVA, P<0.0001). Therefore, it may suggest that a slow current CROM system is more suitable to maximize the efficacy of water quality improvement, but further study is needed to diminish the mortality of mussel and to reuse the nutrient released during the operation.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the nursing diagnoses applied for case studies of nursing students through their clinical practices, and to provide the educational basis of nursing diagnoses with its results. The data were collected for two years(1995 and 1996) from 70 case studies reported by the 2nd and 3rd year nursing junior college students. The students made 259 nursing diagnoses among which 230 diagnoses qualified NANDA classification and were taken for analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows : 1. The number of diagnoses indicating response patterns was 35(35.7%), whereas 98 diagnoses in NANDA table. Among the 35 diagnoses, the pattern of exchange was most frequent, then feeling, moving, knowing in rank. 2. The diagnoses were analyzed in the categories of response patterns. For Instance, 'Altered in Nutrition' was most frequent in exhange, then Risk for Infection', 'Ineffective Airway Clearance', in rank. 3. Among 230 diagnoses, 'Knowle Deficit' was most frequently mentioned, then 'Activity Intolerance' 'Anxiety', 'Pain', 'Altered in Nutrition', 'Risk for Infection', 'Ineffective airway clearance', in rank. 4. The types of word expression of each diagnoses were various. 'Activity Intolerance' was expressed in 6 types. 5. The relating factors applied to each diagnosis were analyzed. For Instance, the relating factor of 'Knowledge Deficit' were illness, and therapeutic process, lack of motivation, occurrance of complication, short experience, operation, and so on. From the above study, the researcher would like to recommend as follows : 1) The current diagnoses need to be verified its content validity, when they are applied to our culture. 2) The most effective educational method for applying nursing diagnoses should be explored. 3) Further study could be focused on not only 'relating factors' but also 'sign and symptoms'.

  • We explored phagotrophy of the phototrophic ciliate Mesodinium rubrum on the cyanobacterium Synechococcus. The ingestion and clearance rates of M. rubrum on Synechococcus as a function of prey concentration were measured. In addition, we calculated grazing coefficients by combining the field data on abundance of M. rubrum and co-occurring Synechococcus spp. with laboratory data on ingestion rates. The ingestion rate of M. rubrum on Synechococcus sp. linearly increased with increasing prey concentrations up to approximately 1.9 × 106 cells mL-1, to exhibit sigmoidal saturation at higher concentrations. The maximum ingestion and clearance rates of M. rubrum on Synechococcus were 2.1 cells predator-1 h-1 and 4.2 nL predator-1 h-1, respectively. The calculated grazing coefficients attributable to M. rubrum on cooccurring Synechococcus spp. reached 0.04 day-1. M. rubrum could thus sometimes be an effective protistan grazer of Synechococcus in marine planktonic food webs. M. rubrum might also be able to form recurrent and massive blooms in diverse marine environments supported by the unique and complex mixotrophic arrays including phagotrphy on hetrotrophic bacteria and Synechococcus as well as digestion, kleptoplastidy and karyoklepty after the ingestion of cryptophyte prey.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine pharmacokinetic parameters of vancomycin using two point calculation(TPC) and Bayesian methods in 16 Korean normal volunteers and 15 g astric cancer patients. Nonparametric expected maximum(NPEM) algorithm for calculation of population pharmacokinetic parameter was used, and these parameters were applied for clinical pharmacokinetic parameters by Bayesian analysis. Vancomycin was administered 1.0g every 12 hrs for 3 days by IV infusion over 60 minutes. The volume of distribution(Vd), elimination rate constant(Kel) and total body clearance(CLt) of vancomycin in normal volunteers using TPC method were $0.34{\pm}0.06 L/kg,\; 0.19{\pm}0.01 hr^{-1}$ and $4.08 {\pm} 0.93 L/hr$, respectively, The Vd, Kel and CLt of vancomycin in gastric cancer patients using TPC method were $0.46 {\pm} 0.06 L/kg, 0.17{\pm}0.02 hr^{-1}$ and $4.84 {\pm} 0.57 L/hr$ respectively. There were significant differences(p<0.05) in Vd. Kel and CLt between normal volunteers and gastric cancer patients. Polpulation pharmacokinetic parameter, the slope(KS) of the relationship beetween Kel versus creatinine Clearance, and the Vd were $0.00157{\pm}0.00029(hr{\cdot}mL/min/1.73m^2)^{-1},\; 0.631 {\pm} 0.0036 L/kg$ in gastric cancer patients using NPEM algorithm respectively. The Vd and Kel were $0.63{\pm}0.005 L/kg, 0.15 {\pm}0.027 hr^{-1}$ for gastric cancer patients using Bayesian method. There were significant differences(p<0.05) in vancomycin pharmacokinetics between Bayesian and TPC methods. It is considered that the population parameter in the patient population is necessary for effective Bayesian method in clinical pharmacy practise.

  • In this study, effective forming methods for reducing the roll-over of a sector tooth, which is a main component of an automotive seat recliner, are proposed. Due to the large amount of roll-over, accurate contact between the inner gear of a sector tooth and the outer gear of a pawl tooth cannot be normally achieved; thus sensitivity and safety for the passengers decrease. To overcome the aforementioned drawback, we investigated the effect of flowcontrol forming methods involving local embossing die, coining punch, and VIC (Variable Inverse Clearance) on the roll-over depth by FE-analysis and an experiment. The results of a fine-blanking experiment for verifying the proposed methods showed that VIC type is decidedly superior from the aspects of reduction of roll-over and tool strength of the sector tooth.

  • In recent years, the size of plane substrates and semiconductor wafers has increased. As conventional contact transportation systems composed of, for example, carrier rollers, belt conveyers, and robot hands carry these longer and wider substrates, the increased weight results in increased potential for fracture. A noncontact transportation system is required to solve this problem. We propose a new noncontact transportation system combining acoustic viscous and aerostatic forces to provide damage-free transport. In this system, substrates are supported by aerostatic force and transported by acoustic viscous streaming induced by traveling wave deformation of a disk-type stator. A ring-type piezoelectric transducer bonded on the stator excites vibration. A stator with a high Q piezoelectric transducer can generate traveling vibrations with amplitude of $3.2{\mu}m$. Prior to constructing a carrying road for substrates, we clarified the basic properties of this technique and stator vibration characteristics experimentally. We constructed the experimental equipment using a rotational disk with a 95-mm diameter. Electric power was 70 W at an input voltage of 200 Vpp. A rotational torque of $8.5\times10^{-5}Nm$ was obtained when clearance between the stator and disk was $120{\mu}m$. Finally, we constructed a noncontact transport apparatus for polycrystalline silicon wafers $(150(W)\times150(L)\times0.3(t))$, producing a carrying speed of 59.2 mm/s at a clearance of 0.3 mm between the stator and wafer. The carrying force when four stators acted on the wafer was $2\times10^{-3}N$. Thus, the new noncontact transportation system was demonstrated to be effective.

  • This paper describes a heuristic search technique carrying out collision avoidance for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles(AUVs). Fuzzy relational products are used as the mathematical implement for the analysis and synthesis of relations between obstacles that are met in the navigation environment and available candidate nodes. In this paper, we propose a more effective evaluation function that reflects the heuristic information of domain experts on obstacle clearance, and an advanced heuristic search method performing collision avoidance for AUVs. The search technique adopts fuzzy relational products to conduct path-planning of intelligent navigation system. In order to verify the performance of proposed heuristic search, it is compared with $A^*$ search method through simulation in view of the CPU time, the optimization of path and the amount of memory usage.

  • Background and Objectives Several predicted optimal parameters for laser treatment have been suggested, making the settings subject to variation. Thus, picosecond lasers may require more data and studies to optimize the laser parameters, increase the efficacy of each session, and minimize the total number of sessions. This study evaluated the results of picosecond laser tattoo removal in variable locations, focusing on the aesthetic outcome, number of procedures, and adverse effects. Materials and Methods Nine patients who underwent picosecond laser treatment from February 2014 to July 2020 were enrolled. Before the procedures, the required number of sessions was estimated using the Kirby-Desai scale. At the end of the treatment, the patients assessed their satisfaction. The patient and two plastic surgeons assessed the clearance of the tattoo. Results The mean of the clearance was 86.6% in both the patient and investigators assessment. The patients reported satisfaction for an average score of 5.1 ± 0.78 for the aesthetic outcome, 4.5 ± 0.78 for pain, 4.1 ± 0.92 for the number of procedures, and 4.7 ± 0.97 for adverse effects. The average number of actual procedures was 6.7 ± 1.20. The average Kirby-Desai score was 7.1 ± 1.45. Their correlation coefficient was 0.803, which is considered a strong positive correlation. Conclusion Picosecond lasers have a remarkable ability to degrade smaller tattoo pigments through a photoacoustic effect. Moreover, a picosecond laser treatment for tattoo removal can be a safe and effective method. Picosecond lasers are a promising technology with the potential to optimize the treatment of tattoos.
