  • An EMC analysis of a switched mode power supply (SMPS) have been usually using unbalance circuit topologies and the major factor of disturbance is parasitic capacitance. We have proposed a balanced switching converter circuit, which is an effective way to reduce the common mode conducted noise.   • We have fabricated and analyzed photodiodes for optical link with Si pin structures. As the results of experiment, the web patterned photodiode(type C) with $p^{+}$-guard ring showed low junction capacitance of 6~7 pF at $V_{R}$=-5V and high separation ability for optical signal(dark current : $\leq$ 5 nA, optical signal current : $\geq$ 340 nA) due to the small effective $p^{+}$-n junction area and the expanded electric field region. The fabricated Si pin photodiode can be applicable for detecting an optical signal with the wavelength of about 660~670 nm. It can also be integrated with the twin well CMOS structure to develope an one chip based optical receiver IC. IC.C.

  • The use of a room-temperature gamma spectrometer is an issue in environmental radiation monitoring. To monitor radionuclides released around a nuclear power plant, suitable instruments giving fast and reliable information are required. High-pressure xenon (HPXe) chambers have range of resolution and efficiency equivalent to those of other medium resolution detectors such as those using NaI(Tl), CdZnTe, and $LaBr_3:Ce$. An HPXe chamber could be a cost-effective alternative, assuming temperature stability and reliability. The CEA LIST actively studied and developed HPXe-based technology applied for environmental monitoring. Xenon purification and conditioning was performed. The design of a 4-L HPXe detector was performed to minimize the detector capacitance and the required power supply. Simulations were done with the MCNPX2.7 particle transport code to estimate the intrinsic efficiency of the HPXe detector. A behavioral study dealing with ballistic deficits and electronic noise will be utilized to provide perspective for further analysis.

  • Because conventional switching converters have been usually using unbalanced circuit topologies, parasitic capacitance between the drain/collector of an active switch and the frame ground through its heat sink may generate the common-mode conducted noise. We have proposed a balanced switching converter circuit, which is an effective way to reduce the common-mode conducted noise. As an example, a boost converter version of the balanced switching converter was presented and the mechanism of the common-mode noise reduction was explained using equivalent circuits. This paper extends the concept of the balanced switching converter circuit and presents a buck-boost converter version of the balanced switching converter. The feature of common-mode noise reduction is confirmed by experimental results and the mechanism of the common-mode noise reduction is explained using equivalent circuits.

  • In a previous theoretical paper, we have derived a unified formula by considering 2-D coupled mode vibrations. The unified formula for electromechanical coupling coefficient of piezoelectric resonator was verified experimentally. The capacitance change near the resonant frequency was investigated to estimate the effective coupling coefficient of the resonator instead of the conventional method based on I-D model. The susceptance spectra were measured for the seven samples of piezoelectric resonator with different aspect ratio. Excellent agreement between theoretical and experimental results was obtained.

  • For the high power variable speed applications, the DCTLI(diode clamped three-level inverter) have been widely used. This paper describes the analysis of the neutral point current of the DCTLI and the improved space vector-based PWM strategy considering the switching frequency of power devices, that minimizes the fluctuation of the neutral point current in spite of high modulation index region and low power factor. It contributes to decrease the capacitance of dc-link capacitor bank and to increase the neutral point voltage controllable region. Especially, even if second (or even) order harmonic is induced in load current (at this situation, is was investigated that the general control method can not suppress the neutral point voltage variation), this PWM can provide effective control method to suppress the neutral point voltage variation. Various simulation results by means of Matlab/Simulation are presented to verify the proposed PWM.

  • The improvement of luminous efficacy is one of the major issues in PDP industry. In this work, we propose the new driving method for high efficiency AC-PDP and analyze its discharge characteristics. The suggested method can control the effective capacitance of panel by external auxiliary capacitor. External capacitor induces reduction of gap voltage proportional to the panel current, this in turn modifies the transient behaviour of discharge. The peak current level is reduced and the discharge duration is increased. As a result of these modifications, the luminous efficacy is enhanced by about 200% compared with the conventional driving method

  • With the increasing performance and density of VLSI scircuits as well as the popularity of portable devices such as personal digital assitance, power consumption has emerged as an important issue in the design of electronic systems. Low power design techniqeus have been pursued at all design levels. However, it is more effective to attempt to reduce power dissipation at higher levels of abstraction which allow wider view. In this paper, we propose a simultaneous scheduling and binding scheme which increases the correlation between cosecutive inputs to an operation so that the switched capacitance of execution units is reduced in datapath-dominated circuits. The proposed method is implemented and integrated into the scheduling and assignment part of HYPER synthesis environment. Compared with original HYPER synthesis system, average power saving of 23.0% in execution units and 14.2% in the whole circuits, ar eobtained for a set of benchmark examples.

  • This paper presents a design of a wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonant coupling technology with in-band wireless communication. To increase the transmission distance and compensate for the change in the effective capacitance due to the varying distance, the proposed system used a loop antenna with a selectable capacitor array. Because the increased transmission distance enables multiple charging, we added a communication protocol operated at the same frequency band to manage a network and control power circuits. In order to achieve the efficient bandwidth in both power transfer mode and communication mode, the S-parameters of the loop antennas are adjusted by switching a series resistor. Our test results showed that the loop antenna achieved a high Q factor in power transfer mode and enough passband in communication mode.

  • In this paper we numerically approximated the field-effect mobility of a-Si:H TFT. Field-effect mobility, based on the charge-trapping model and new effective capacitance model in our study, used Chebyshev approximation was approximated as the function of gate potential(gate-to-channel voltage). Even though various external factors are changed, this formula can be applied by choosing the characteristic coefficients without any change of the approximation formula corresponding to each operation region. Using new approximated field-effect mobility formula, the dependences of field-effect mobility on materials and thickness of gate insulator, thickness of a-Si bulk, and operation temperature in inverted staggered-electrode a-Si:H TFT were estimated. By this was the usefulness of new approximated mobility formula proved.
